★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I visited Shanghai Times for the first time today, located right across from my New York office, and ordered the Sauteed Freshwater Eel with Garlic and Duck Soup combo with Pan-Fried Pork Soup Dumplings for lunch. This was my first dining experience here, and it didn’t disappoint! The Sauteed Freshwater Eel was the most expensive dish on the menu, but it arrived at the table perfectly prepared. The traditional Shanghai cooking style shone through with its rich thickness and sweetness, especially when paired with rice. The portion size was reasonable, and the finishing touch of hot oil and garlic added a delightful spice. However, it might feel oily if you’re not accustomed to this classic Shanghainese dish. I’d give it 95/100—100 if it were a bit less peppery. The Pan-Fried Pork Soup Dumplings were a highlight—crispy on the bottom from the pan-frying, with the soup flowing out beautifully and the filling staying juicy. The Duck Soup was also solid, complementing the meal nicely. The staff was friendly, and the restaurant was spotlessly clean. Definitely worth a visit if you’re nearby!
July 19 · LLWe came here as a party of 20 people+ after an event nearby. The restaurant was so kind and was able to accommodate our huge group. We ate at tables near each other which also made it easier for ordering and settling the bill. We really enjoyed our dishes, especially the soup dumplings, wonton in chili oil, shiitake mushroom and bok choy, beef fried rice, and chicken. Our friends all loved the dishes they ordered.
May 14 · Sarah KhalbussIt is very difficult to find non-meat soup dumplings. I'm glad we came. Honestly, everything was good. We had the crab, shrimp soup dumplings. Both were good. To eat, take a small bite on the top and suck the soup before taking bigger bites. My husband had the beef noodles. It, too, was delicious. We had the rice pudding for dessert. I'm glad we did. This is way better than the Korean pudding desserts we have in Texas.
June 05 · vkl0253We showed up about 30 min to closing and they had no issue with seating us, as well as a couple other tables that arrived after us. The Kung Pao Chicken was delicious and spicy! I ordered the soup dumpling sampler and each one was delicious as were the steamed buns. We would definitely eat here again when in the area. There were so many things on the menu that I would’ve loved to try if we had a lot more time.
May 15 · Liz LoboThis place serves different type of Chinese food, precisely from Shanghai. It does remind me of what I had in Shaighai in my last visit. I tried drinken chicken and rice cakes. They are delicious. The restaurant is not big but modern and clean. I am glad I found it.
