This was a spectacular creative experience. My friend and I had an incredible time with the 15 course omakase dinner we ranked each dish and found it hard to not give every one a 10/10. Plus the service was so incredible and our chef took so much time to explain each dish, the origins and his inspiration. Each dish had a unique burst of flavor! Truly inspiring and I hope to return soon! Thank you! - Adriana Cuibus

Sushiichi Introduce

In the bustling landscape of New York City, Sushiichi stands as a hidden gem, offering a truly authentic and unforgettable Japanese dining experience. Located at 640 10th Ave, this Asian-owned restaurant specializes in omakase, a unique and personal culinary journey where the dining experience is left entirely up to the chef. The word “omakase” translates to “I’ll leave it up to you,” and at Sushiichi, this is a promise that results in a spectacular, creative, and immersive meal. The chef takes center stage, acting as a guide through a multi-course dinner that showcases the freshest, most seasonal ingredients, many of which are flown in directly from Tokyo.

Unlike the fast-paced nature of many city restaurants, Sushiichi provides a cozy and intimate atmosphere perfect for a special occasion, a date night, or even a solo dining adventure. The focus is on the art and craftsmanship of each dish. The chef not only prepares each piece with meticulous attention to detail but also takes the time to explain the origins, flavors, and inspirations behind every course. This personal interaction transforms a simple meal into an inspiring and educational experience. Patrons praise the unique burst of flavor in each dish and the thoughtful progression of the courses, which are masterfully designed to build upon one another.

While the star of the show is the omakase, the restaurant also offers a carefully curated selection of sake, wines, and beer to complement the delicate and complex flavors of the food. The selection of sakes, from the light and graceful Dassai to the traditional Kubota, is especially notable and adds to the authenticity of the experience. The atmosphere is casual yet trendy, making it a comfortable space for a diverse crowd, including families and the LGBTQ+ community, who will find it to be a welcoming and safe space.

In a city where quality can sometimes be hard to find, Sushiichi delivers a consistently excellent experience. The restaurant is celebrated for its high-quality ingredients, attentive service, and the sheer artistry of its chefs. For those seeking more than just a meal, but a true taste of Japanese culinary tradition and innovation, Sushiichi offers a destination that is well worth a visit.

What is worth choosing

For any first-time visitor to Sushiichi, the most worthwhile choice is to fully embrace the omakase experience. The Course Dinner Omakase, and its premium counterpart, are the centerpiece of the restaurant’s offerings. This is where the chef’s expertise truly shines, as they guide you through a series of dishes that are not on a regular menu. It is an opportunity to try unique, seasonal items and witness the artistry of a master sushi chef. As one customer raved, they found it difficult to give any of the 15 courses less than a perfect rating, which speaks volumes about the quality and creativity of the omakase. The personal interaction with the chef, who explains each dish and its inspiration, is an invaluable part of the experience.

If you prefer to start with something a la carte or are not ready for a full course, you can explore their wide range of appetizers. The Spicy Tuna Avocado Tartar and the variety of fresh sushi and sashimi rolls are excellent choices for a taste of their craftsmanship.

To accompany your meal, exploring their sake menu is highly recommended. The selection of Dassai sake, including the Dassai 45, 39, and 23, is a highlight. Dassai is a celebrated brand of junmai daiginjo, known for its fruity and clean taste, which pairs beautifully with delicate sushi. The "Snow White" Nagurayama "Nigori Ginjo" is also a great choice for those who enjoy a cloudy, unfiltered sake with a slightly sweeter profile.

While the dining experience is the main draw, be mindful of seating. As one reviewer noted, the tables near the window can be less intimate due to street traffic. For the full omakase experience, sitting at the counter is the ideal choice, allowing you to witness the preparation firsthand and interact with the chef. Regardless of where you sit, the core of what is worth choosing is the trust in the chef's culinary vision, which is the very essence of omakase at Sushiichi.
