Tai Pan Bakery Introduce
Tai Pan Bakery: A Beloved Flushing Institution
If you're looking for a taste of authentic and delightful Chinese and international baking right here in New York, look no further than Tai Pan Bakery in the heart of Flushing, Queens. Established in 1990, this bakery quickly became a neighborhood essential, renowned for its commitment to freshness, quality, and affordable prices. Tai Pan Bakery specializes in a fantastic array of single-serving pastries—think light, fluffy buns and delicate tarts filled with traditional ingredients like red bean, taro, and roast pork, offering a lighter sweetness compared to many Western-style desserts.
This spot is more than just a place to grab a bite; it’s a vibrant slice of the Flushing community, often bustling and loud, which is typical of a thriving Chinese bakery environment. For those familiar with the neighborhood, the quality and variety of the offerings here have made it a long-standing favorite. Whether you're searching for a quick breakfast, a delicious dessert after a meal, or a specialty cake for a celebration, Tai Pan Bakery provides a welcoming and authentic experience.
Location and Accessibility in Flushing, Queens
Tai Pan Bakery's primary location is perfectly situated for easy access in one of Queens' busiest hubs:
The bakery is located at: 37-25 Main St Second Floor, Flushing, NY 11354, USA. This places it right in the heart of the vibrant Main Street area of Flushing, a major center for commerce and transportation in Queens.
Accessibility in this area is generally excellent via public transportation, which is highly recommended for navigating Flushing's crowded streets.
- The location is easily accessible by various MTA buses and is just a short walk from the Flushing-Main Street subway station (7 train) and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) station.
- For those who drive, the area presents typical challenges for New York City. What is Worth Choosing
Tai Pan Bakery is highly regarded for several key items that embody its blend of tradition and quality. When visiting, you'll want to prioritize those signature pastries that the bakery is known for, especially if you are looking for that authentic Cantonese bakery experience. Their goods generally feature a lighter, fluffier texture and are less sweet than many conventional American desserts.
Local New Yorkers consistently rave about a few specialties:
- The Portuguese Egg Custard is often highlighted for its perfect balance of sweet, delicately eggy custard and a wonderfully buttery, flaky crust.
- For those who love fruit-flavored treats, the Mango Glutinous Mochi is praised for its creamy texture and authentic, fresh mango flavor.
- The Bread Series offers popular buns for an easy meal, with the Pineapple Bun and Roast Pork Bun being classic, comforting favorites for many patrons.
- In the drinks category, their Percolator Coffee is noted for being smooth, flavorful, and served hot, which makes for a perfect pairing with any pastry.
- When it comes to cakes, their various Cake Rolls (like the Chocolate, Vanilla, and Coffee Roll) are a popular choice for a simple yet delicious sweet slice.
Tai Pan Bakery stands as a steadfast beacon of quality in the bustling landscape of Flushing, providing familiar comfort foods for immigrants and an exciting culinary experience for all New Yorkers. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1CASH ONLY!!! Crowded and loud but this is the norm in a Chinese bakery especially smack dab in middle of Flushing.Service is quick however overall not very hygienic when not a single person use the tongs provided to grab goods but use their hands, some I even see picking at the bread then putting them back. A lady right after me was basically rummaging through the bread selections both hands sorting out her desired ones.Though the baked goods were fresh and warm, I find it hard to return. There are countless bakeries in the area that is of the same quality yet simply more hygienic conscious.
August 24 · Jesse YuanI was in the neighborhood of Main Street in Flushing in Queens when I remembered a place where I could sit, have a delicious percolated coffee and a desert. Tai Pan is the Peter Pan of deserts in my opinion. There are a whole slu of other coffee shops in the area just not as many tables for patrons to have a seat. I did think about Starbucks just down the street but sometimes big name brands can be over rated and I just wanted something simple without all the hype.Perculator coffee ☕ will always taste better than coffee pot any day. Their coffee is smooth, tasty, and oh boy HOT which means it lasts longer to sip down without it getting cold.I had a Medium coffee and a lemon pastry filling all for $5.25. I really wasn't expecting the size of the pastry which was huge soft, gushing with lemon filling.PARKING: There are two parking lots in the area circled in yellow in one of my posted pictures. The red circle is Tai Pan Bakery. Both require a payment the larger one will cost more but have way more spaces, the smaller one is ALWAYS PACKED and tough to get a spot. I would highly recommend just parking your car on the outskirts of flushing in a residential area and take a nearby bus. Something I do often when I come out this way.BATHROOM(S): There is only "ONE" for both men and women but you have to ask for the key behind the counter. This is Queens remember?, people can just walk in off the street and think they are entitled to pee. 🤣Side Note: *I wasn't handed a sales receipt, perhaps she forgot?*The establishment could use a few more tables and chairs in my opinion. They only had 7.If your out this way come check them out and tell them the Guru sent you🫵😉*The Review GuruLong Island NY
June 28 · The Review Guru*When you are craving something a little bit sweet after a meal this is the right place for you. The cakes are eerie, but extremely good.. and the bobo tea are someone else should try in their lifetime.
July 17 · Shelly HI ve been coming here for decades; love the mini eggnog here — But recently the customer service is honestly terrible. There’s no system for the line at all. One person comes in with ten family members and suddenly they’re all crowding the counter and placing separate orders — it’s chaotic, especially during the busy morning rush. There were about 5–6 staff members working, but none of them seemed to be managing the flow. No one was directing customers, and it felt disorganized. At one point, they even cut off the line or spoke in Chinese to let others jump ahead, which was really frustrating.I eventually gave up and walked over to Rainbow Bakery just a block away — only two staff members there, but the line was clear and manageable. Taipan seriously needs a floor manager or at least some sort of system to keep things fair and efficient.
July 19 · Sally VanPopular local bakery on Main st for many years. Very busy shop.I like coming here cause the breads & pastries have consistent quality. My favorite is the fish sandwich for $3.50. Iced coffee goes for $4. Prices here are very reasonable 👍👍.Taipan is a good brand and has multiple locations. Definitely recommended.
