The Bar Room at The Modern Reviews
This was truly the best five-star dining experience we’ve ever had! Even though there was a small mistake with one dish, the staff handled it with such grace and professionalism. They not only offered us a discount, but also surprised us with five complimentary desserts and a birthday cake. The desserts were absolutely stunning—each one a masterpiece that completely blew us away. What impressed us most was the way the restaurant turned a tiny imperfection into the most perfect and memorable service. It ended up being the most delightful birthday celebration we could have asked for—full of surprises, warmth, and genuine care. Highly recommended!
August 16 · k chenLoved it ..Great place for lunch. The food is delicious, service is quick and the bar area is nicely spacious. Great for business lunch as it offers good space between tables to allow for conversations. We had a delicious hot dog with caviar (yes with caviar) and tasted amazing. Main course were salmon (always great there) and pasta with lobster. Dessert was caramelized banana with ice cream. Portions are relatively small but each dish had its own strong taste.
June 27 · Tarek FarahatWent for a late lunch with the family after an adventure at the met. Overall it was stellar. Started with some tomato bread that was perfectly seasoned. The salmon was cooked well and a sauce added some interesting notes. Finished it off with a delightfully chocolate dessert. Food was excellent and service was tight. Highly recommend
August 31 · Jayson TomasuloCame here for a really special celebration with a few friends and honestly was very disappointed by our experience. We got the restaurant week menu and the food was phenomenal -- highlights were the steak tartare, heirloom tomato toast, rabbit tagliatelle, and the bread and cultured served at the beginning. Dessert was great too. What made the experience subpar was the service. We sat outside and ordered a bottle of wine, but bugs started to fall into our wine glasses that we barely drank so we let our server know. She was kind about it and even offered to seat us inside without us asking, which we were surprised about and took her upon her offer. However, once we were seated inside, the entire experience went downhill. We hadn't finished all of our food from outside, and they said they would take care of moving everything inside but they only brought in our appetizers and tossed our half eaten bread which we were hoping to finish. Our new wine glasses were filled with the remainder of the bottle of wine we ordered and we had to ask about the two glasses of wine that were taken from us due to bugs being in them (eventually someone came and refilled our glasses but I wish we didn't need to ask). We also waited 30-45 minutes before dessert was served and it only came because we had to ask for it.Overall, I would recommend the restaurant for food but wouldn't recommend it for the service. Given its price point and reputation, my friends and I were all very disappointed and it definitely put a damper on our night and celebration. We appreciated the staff trying to improve our experience initially but we would've much rather stayed outside had we known this was the experience we were going to receive.
August 30 · Emma ChiuGot a table on the terrace during Restaurant Week. The terrace was sublime. There was some sort of event going on that night at the museum (the restaurant terrace is sectioned off from the museum terrace) so there was music and it was lovely. The Restaurant Week menu was surprisingly good and a pretty good bargain at 3 courses for $65! The tomato bread and rabbit tagliatelle were the standouts. A lot of folks on the internet pooh pooh the RW menu but we had a wonderful time!
