The Cock Introduce
In the heart of New York City's East Village, a neighborhood renowned for its vibrant nightlife and diverse culture, sits The Cock. More than just a bar, it's an institution, and a well-known gathering place for the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. The establishment's exterior is simple, marked by a recognizable rooster sign, but the experience inside is anything but. The bar has a reputation for its laid-back, trendy, and casual atmosphere, which attracts a diverse crowd of locals and tourists alike. Whether you're a regular or visiting for the first time, you'll find a space that is unapologetically itself and provides a different kind of nightlife experience.
The Cock is a two-level venue, with the top floor offering a more traditional lounge atmosphere where guests can enjoy a variety of drinks. The bar prides itself on serving great cocktails, along with a full selection of beer, wine, and hard liquor. The fast service ensures you won't have to wait long to get a drink and get back to socializing. The downstairs area is where the vibe shifts, featuring a dancefloor, a DJ, and go-go dancers. This split-level setup caters to different moods, whether you want to have a conversation and a drink upstairs or get into the thick of the action on the dancefloor below.
The bar's atmosphere is a significant part of its appeal. It’s a space that encourages a "no-frills, no-judgments" attitude, where patrons can feel free to be themselves. As one straight reviewer noted, despite being new to the scene, they felt completely "unwelcome, not safe, or at all anything but another patron." This highlights the inclusive and welcoming nature of the bar. It's an environment where people from all walks of life can have a great time, whether in a group or exploring the city solo. The bar's designation as a Transgender safespace further emphasizes its commitment to providing a secure and welcoming environment for everyone.
The Cock's reputation for being a "dirty, seductive, alluring alleyway" of a bar, as described by New York Magazine, is what draws a crowd looking for something different from the "corporate sterility" of other NYC venues. While some reviews mention the loud music and darkness, these are often seen as part of the bar's unique and uninhibited character. It's a place where you can unleash your "inner sexy beast" and enjoy a night of freedom and self-expression. The cash-only policy is an important detail for visitors to keep in mind before they arrive.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Had a blast! Straight dude who was told about The Cock, and couldn’t leave New York without checking it out. Pretty simple exterior, massive rooster sign. Staff was welcoming and friendly from the moment we walked in. Top floor was a typical lounge, drinks were great. Downstairs is a different ballgame. Literally. But not for a moment did I feel unwelcome, not safe, or at all anything but another patron. Overall had an amazing night out with friends that included the cock. Had a blast, give it a try. Really wanted a tshirt but they were sold out :(
April 27 · M LWeird energy here. People just stand there and say negative things about you. Staff will make fake profiles to attract customers online but then make fun of you if you try to approach them in person. Feels like high school entering here. I use to work here for years before the renovations. They need better music. Place has gone down hill since. It's a shame. Never coming back here again. Also had my ID stolen. Pick pockets are messy.
September 01 · C QThe place is Ok, they charge a cover, the place needs some renovation and to get more furniture for the lower level.
February 01 · Carlo R. CarranzaHad a great time here with my girlfriends the other week! Super welcoming gay bar for the ladies. Great go go dancers. Bartender could be friendlier. As women, just respect the sanctity of the basement where the hot action happens, and do not get on the way!
February 06 · Karen WyckHORRIBLE! The place is extremely dark, you can see a thing. The air is UNBREATHABLE! A mix of all disgusting smells you can imagine. The music is awful, bad, not good. I don't think I am ever coming back here!🤢
