The Cottage Introduce
For Connecticut diners seeking a truly premier and seasonally inspired culinary journey, **The Cottage** in Westport is a celebrated destination that consistently raises the bar for American cuisine in the region. Since its opening, this restaurant has garnered critical acclaim for its thoughtful, innovative dishes and its unwavering commitment to sourcing the finest local ingredients. Led by James Beard-nominated Chef Brian Lewis, The Cottage delivers a sophisticated yet casually charming experience where coastal elegance meets modern cooking techniques.
The core philosophy here is "seasonal American cooking," meaning the menu is fluid, constantly evolving to showcase the best bounty from local and regional farmers and purveyors. This dedication to local food is not just a trend; it's a foundational commitment, with Chef Lewis actively partnering with local farms like Millstone Farm and Holbrook Farm for ingredients like farm eggs, Chioggia beets, and fresh produce. The result is a dining experience that feels connected to the Connecticut landscape, where every dish is a celebration of the season.
The atmosphere at The Cottage perfectly complements its culinary style. It is described as cozy, romantic, trendy, and upscale, featuring a beautiful interior with white-washed wooden beams that evoke a breezy, chic seaside cottage. This intimate setting, often highlighted by a candlelit ambiance, makes it an ideal spot for date nights, special occasions, or an unpretentious fine-dining evening. The service is attentive and excellent, with servers praised for being "attentive without being overpowering."
While the focus is on seasonal American cooking, the menu is eclectic, incorporating global flavors and techniques, particularly Asian influences, as seen in items like **Wagyu Brisket Steam Buns** with Napa kimchi or the **Spicy Squid & Broccoli** with black garlic. This innovative approach ensures that even regular visitors always find something new and exciting to explore. Be advised, as an experience-focused establishment, the pricing reflects the haute cuisine quality and meticulous presentation, and reservations are highly recommended, often required, to secure your seating.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- Lovely restaurant with beautiful atmosphere and eclectic menu. The service was excellent. Our server, i unfortunately don’t remember his name was wonderful, he was attentive without being overpowering. All of the food we had was very good but for me there wasn’t anything memorable. I think my favorite bite was the little gem lettuce. Beautifully fresh and lovely crunch from the rice crunch. A few of us tried the 3 course menu and it was tasty. August 05 · Kathy D
- So my personal bias is I love farm to table and good tasting healthy food but I don’t need my food to look artsy. So for haute cuisine this place is legit and top notch as are the prices. The portions are small with the emphasis being on presentation and all the other elements however I think even with everything considered the menu is overpriced. The halibut in the picture was $57. I’ve had better tasting halibut at other places for half the price with better portions, but the presentation is spot on and immaculate. That said this is an experience and perhaps not really intented for a regular Joe such as myself. Walking out the door having spent $300 for two people without any wine purchased and wondering where the nearest pizza place is doesn’t seem fulfilling…but it is Westport….. May 29 · Rich Zakka
- Brunch was very limited in selections and portions are small. Several of menu options were disappointing. Pancake options were all excellent in taste, presentation and quality, but half the size of competitors. Nice bar and some seating there for singles and couples to enjoy. Staff is very accommodating. Will go back for dinner, as would not return for a brunch. September 10 · ASG CAPCO CORP
- Super cute little place! Definitely recommend having a reservation as seating is limited. We came for brunch and were really happy with our meals. We had the frittata and lobster Benedict, followed by the vanilla spiced pavlova. Our server Derrick was very nice and extremely attentive despite it being busy. February 02 · Hannah
- I loved the great customer service and the calm, simple, clean and "cottage-like" atmosphere. The food was creatively placed on every plate and was delicious! We celebrated my brother's 60th birthday and we all enjoyed it. It's a little difficult to find because it's not on the main drag. You have to go behind a parking lot and make a few turns - GPS was wrong. It's a small, lovely place with charm- a little gem - will return! November 20 · Sharon Speer
