What is Worth Choosing
For first-time visitors or seasoned patrons, selecting a dish from Uncle Taher's rich menu can be a delightful dilemma. To fully appreciate the culinary artistry of this Bay Ridge gem, New Yorkers should focus on the deeply traditional and highly-praised specialties that define Yemeni cooking.
One of the most essential choices is the Lamb Haneeth. This slow-cooked lamb, marinated in a blend of imported traditional spices, is a hallmark of the cuisine and consistently receives high marks for its incredible tenderness and deep flavor. Paired with aromatic basmati rice, it is a truly satisfying and classic Yemeni main course.
Another must-try is any of the dishes served in the bubbling Clay Pots. Specifically, the Fahsa (a traditional shredded lamb stew) or the Salta (a vegetarian vegetable stew) are signature experiences. Served in a sizzling hot stone pot, these stews offer a depth of flavor and a unique texture that is unique to the region. As one reviewer noted, this cooking method can impart a "slightly smoky flavor," enhancing the rich seasoning.
For poultry lovers, the Chicken Kabsa and Chicken Agda Curry are both excellent options. The Kabsa features chicken mixed with aromatic rice, while the Agda (a stir-fried chicken and vegetable dish) offers a flavorful stew-like consistency. The Chicken Agda Curry specifically has been cited as a favorite, especially when enjoyed with the accompanying homemade bread.
To start the meal, don't overlook the appetizers. The Hummus, praised by customers for its fresh quality, is a perfect dip for the fluffy, tandoori-baked Yemeni Bread. Conclude your visit with a cup of the highly-recommended Adeni Chai—a sweet and perfectly spiced tea that provides a warm, comforting finish.
In summary, Uncle Taher offers New Yorkers a clean, welcoming, and authentic experience with a focus on the rich, hearty, and aromatic flavors of traditional Yemeni cuisine. Its Bay Ridge location makes it an essential visit for anyone in the region looking to explore one of the Middle East's most distinct and rewarding culinary traditions.

Uncle Taher Reviews
It was our first time here. We ordered hummus, adeni chai, chicken kabsa and chicken agda curry. Came with 3 naans on the side. Loved the chai- flavorful and delicious, just the perfect amount of sugar. Loved the hummus. Chicken kabsa was good. Curry was served in a stone pot so it gave a slightly smoky flavor to it. Everything was low on salt. Hope they improve that. Service was quick and friendly.
March 28 · Arya PhatakThis was my first time visiting this restaurant and I highly recommend it! The service was great and the restaurant was very clean. Even the bathrooms were clean. Our food did not take long and was fresh and piping hot. The flavor was amazing. We had the mixed grill family style platters and fahsa mix. The 3 of us were full and satisfied. I look forward to returning soon!
March 27 · jamiyla culverThe decor is beautiful and our first time trying out Yemeni cuisine. We had tried cheese, lamb, and potato sambusa. All three were good. However, we had asked for chicken but received cheese instead. We had ordered zurvian lamb with rice that came with salad & soup. The sauce on the salad was the best. The lamb smell was overpowering but my spouse liked it. Everything was good. Will return to try chicken next time.
March 19 · Sam RThe worst food experience I have ever had. We had a piece of metal in our plate. Their food was terrible. Meat was extremely salty and undercooked. Proportion was bad, a lot of rice, & a little bit of meat. Food was overpriced for the quality, quantity and seating arrangements. Staffs were not welcoming. Overall this whole experience was so bad can’t even put in words.
June 09 · Sharmin ShahidI was waiting for this place to open and came across it recently; they been open for a month now. I tried the zurbian chicken. The meal comes with soup (Maraq) and salad and zahawuq (spicy sauce) which was delicious. Honestly the soup was one of the better ones I’ve tried!! The menu has a good variety and I’d def go back to try some more food. You can see they have a hot food window so some food is fresh and ready to be served. I did not get to try the bread.. yet. I ended my meal with their self serve delicious Yemeni tea. Lovely service and good music. I had a great meal. Will definitely be back. Also the man did not charge me tax from the register because I was being taxed by the credit card machine and he didn’t want to double tax me. I was taken back. May all Halal businesses flourish.Update: I went again today and the Zurbian rice was done very well and much better than last time which made me realize I didn’t get the correct rice the first time but the chicken was so skimpy. A small leg and half of half a breast. Why??
