What is worth choosing
For New York diners, **Wangjia Xiaochu (旺家小厨)** presents a truly authentic and extensive culinary experience that stands out in the competitive Brooklyn food scene. What is most worth choosing is the unparalleled **menu depth**, particularly the focus on regional specialties and slow-cooked items. The **Stew Pot Series** is arguably the restaurant's most distinctive highlight. These traditional, often herbal, slow-cooked soups, such as the **Pork Trotter With Antler Mushroom (鹿茸菇猪脚)** or **Scallop Golden Sand Bone (干贝金沙骨)**, offer warmth, depth of flavor, and a nourishing quality that is highly valued, especially during colder months. This is a rare and authentic offering that sets the restaurant apart from standard Chinese takeout establishments.
Another compelling reason to choose this establishment is the sheer variety of **Set Meal** options. For busy New Yorkers, a convenient, flavorful, and filling single-portion meal like the **Drunken Spare Ribs Rice (十香醉排骨套餐饭)** or **Sweet And Sour Hairtail (糖醋带鱼套餐饭)** is highly desirable, offering a balanced meal without the need to order multiple dishes. Furthermore, the selection of **Special Stirfry** and **Cold Dishes**, ranging from simple **Smashed Cucumber Salad (拍黄瓜)** to elaborate **Homecooked Duck Fillet (家炖鸭片头)**, caters to both a quick bite and a substantial, multi-course dining experience.
However, it is crucial for potential patrons to be aware of the mixed customer feedback regarding the **service and hygiene**. While one customer states "There are many dishes and it is worth recommending everyone to try," another review specifically details serious concerns about the proprietress's conduct, including alleged unhygienic behavior (picking up and adding food) and argumentative customer interaction (regarding the air conditioner). The review advises caution, specifically suggesting that those who choose to visit should "just dine in and ask the lady to serve you food," to avoid potential issues with takeout preparation. Therefore, a choice to dine here is a choice to engage with a restaurant known for a vast and authentic menu, but also one where the service experience, as publicly documented, may be highly inconsistent and potentially challenging. A diner’s decision should weigh the appeal of the authentic, vast menu—which is undeniably a strong point—against the serious, specific service and hygiene concerns raised in the public domain.

Wangjia Xiaochu (旺家小厨) Reviews
I've eaten there a few times, always dine-in, but the young proprietress has a lot of problems. She likes to talk back to customers and has unhygienic behavior. When serving food, she picks it up and adds it to customers' meals. Customers complain that it didn't fall on the floor. Another customer asked why the air conditioner wasn't turned up higher because it was hot, and she retorted, "You're wearing so much, how can others not be hot? I'm hot eating inside, so I'm just wearing a short-sleeved shirt!" After eating here today, I really don't want to come back. This proprietress is really not suitable for working in a restaurant. Her hands are shaking when serving food, and her service is insincere. If you want to eat, just dine in and ask the lady to serve you food. I don't even know if she'll pick up the food that fell on the floor and put it in your takeaway.
