For anyone in the New York area looking for an authentic and exciting meal, Xia Chao Malatang presents a compelling choice, primarily due to its signature dish and accommodating features. Malatang provides a unique, highly customizable dining experience that is a step above standard Chinese takeout. Customers have the freedom to curate their perfect meal, choosing from a wide array of fresh ingredients to match their dietary needs and spice preferences. This level of customization ensures a satisfying and personalized dining experience every time. The fact that the restaurant is popular for solo dining also highlights its welcoming environment for individuals looking for a comforting, quick, and substantial meal without needing a group.
It is important for potential diners to weigh the positive features against all available customer feedback. While many reviews praise the food's taste, speed of service, and lack of attitude from staff—with one review noting "Good spicy malatang, the food came out fast and there was no attitude from staff unlike what a lot of reviews say"—there is a significant, isolated negative review regarding a serious hygiene and staff response issue. Acknowledging this isolated but serious concern is crucial for a factual and professional assessment. New York diners should use their own judgment and consider current health inspection ratings and recent reviews to form a final opinion. The positive mentions of fast service and "good spicy malatang" indicate that for many, the food quality and speed of service are major drawcards.
In summary, Xia Chao Malatang is a unique and flavor-focused Chinese and Asian fusion spot in Brooklyn. It excels in offering a casual, customizable, and authentic Malatang and hot pot experience, perfect for lunch or dinner. With conveniences like delivery, takeout, and reservations, it caters well to the fast-paced, demanding palates of the New York clientele who value a casual atmosphere and a comforting, spicy meal. The opportunity to choose your own meal components is its defining feature, making it a standout choice for an interactive and deeply flavorful Asian culinary experience in the city.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1While dining at this restaurant, we found 7–8 mosquitoes in our food. We immediately asked the staff for help, but the response was very dismissive, she only suggested we move to another table, without taking the issue seriously. What was even worse, she was wearing gloves used for handling food and used those same gloves to wipe the mosquitoes off the napkin where we had placed them. By the time we managed to take a photo, only one or two mosquitoes remained; the rest were already wiped away. She also offered to pack our food, but it was clearly contaminated and couldn’t be eaten. The way the situation was handled was extremely unprofessional, and the hygiene standards are clearly unacceptable. Definitely not recommended.🙄🙄
July 26 · RrGood spicy malatang, the food came out fast and there was no attitude from staff unlike what a lot of reviews say. It’s a small space though, so if you have a bigger group you might not be able to fit.
May 26 · Florence WuThis restaurant is pretty much hidden. The food is good, service was definitely on point and the pricing is good too! The salt and pepper pork chop is on point and definitely should be ordered!
January 30 · Paul GI ordered a takeout malatang with 8 ingredients that cost $20. The portion size is small and not even filling for one person. However, I only received 5 of the 8 ingredients I ordered, and there were more noodles than ingredients. Also, they added other ingredients that I don't like, like the seaweed you see in the picture, bean sprouts and corn . Additionally, the beef looked like leftovers because is small like nail-sized pieces.
September 04 · Moemoe ChenWe ordered from here on seamless tonight, I was hesitant since they had no reviews but it looked really good and the food was really great!! We did the 8 ingredient mala tang and some sides. Standouts are the mala tang, okonomiyaki and fried dough sticks. The salt crispy chicken was good but wasn’t as crispy after travel so probably would be better in person. Dumplings were ok but overshadowed by how awesome the highlights were. We will definitely order from here again the next time we want mala tang!
