Yakiniku Toraji An Introduce
For New Yorkers seeking a culinary adventure that is both interactive and luxurious, Yakiniku Toraji An presents an exceptional option. Located at 18 Elizabeth St, New York, NY 10013, USA, this Japanese restaurant specializes in "yakiniku," a unique style of Japanese barbecue where diners grill their own high-quality, bite-sized meats at their table. This is more than just a meal; it's a shared experience, making it a perfect spot for groups, special occasions, or simply an elevated night out. With its focus on premium ingredients and an upscale-casual atmosphere, Yakiniku Toraji An brings a sophisticated taste of Japan to the heart of New York City.
The menu is a carnivore's dream, featuring an impressive selection of cuts, including A5 Japanese Wagyu. The restaurant is renowned for serving "thicker cuts of meat," a detail that conveys a richer, more delicious taste. Diners can choose from a wide variety of options, from classic cuts like Kalbi (short ribs) and Harami (skirt steak) to more adventurous choices like Assorted Horumon (offal) and various cuts of beef tongue. The star of the show, the A5 Japanese Wagyu, is available in both steak and course options, offering a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth texture that is the pinnacle of the yakiniku experience.
While the barbecue is the main event, the menu is surprisingly extensive, ensuring there's something for everyone. A selection of appetizers includes traditional Assorted Kimchi and fresh salads like the Toraji Salad. The Beef Sushi section features delicacies like A5 Wagyu Sirloin Ichi mai Nigiri for a taste of raw, high-grade beef. For those who prefer a full meal without the grilling, there are excellent Rice, Soup, and Noodle options, such as the Oxtail Soup and Beef Fried Rice. The restaurant also offers a great range of seafood, including Lobster, Big Shrimp, and Scallops, perfect for grilling alongside the meat.
The atmosphere at Yakiniku Toraji An is a major part of its appeal. It is described as "casual," "cozy," and "trendy," yet also "upscale," striking a perfect balance between comfort and elegance. This welcoming environment makes it suitable for various crowds, from groups celebrating to tourists looking for an authentic experience. The service is another highlight. One customer review praised the "awesome" service, noting that "the staff tended to all our questions and assisted us when we needed help." The attentiveness and friendly nature of the staff ensure that even newcomers to yakiniku feel comfortable and guided through the process.
The restaurant also caters to a variety of needs. For those who don't drink alcohol, a separate soft drinks menu with "mock tails" is available, a thoughtful touch appreciated by customers. The bar onsite serves a full range of beverages, including alcohol, beer, cocktails, hard liquor, and wine, providing perfect pairings for the rich flavors of the food. Lunch is a great time to visit, with special "Yakiniku Set" options that offer a fantastic way to experience the menu at a great value.
Planning ahead for a visit is recommended. Yakiniku Toraji An "accepts reservations," and "dinner reservations recommended" is a key piece of advice, especially given its popularity. This is a great feature for those looking to secure a table for a special event or for large groups. The restaurant also considers the comfort of all its guests, with a "wheelchair accessible entrance" and the presence of a "changing table(s)" making it a good choice for families with young children.
The combination of high-quality ingredients, an engaging dining style, and a welcoming atmosphere makes Yakiniku Toraji An a standout in New York's competitive dining scene. It’s a place that delivers on its promise of a premium experience without being overly formal, allowing guests to relax and enjoy the unique thrill of Japanese barbecue.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Chill atmosphere and good food! Service was awesome! The staff tended to all our questions and assisted us when we needed help. I was appreciative of the separate soft drinks options with mock tails as I cant take drink alcohol. I ordered the Cinderella which was an orange and pineapple mix with a cherry and it was good. There were different set options and I ordered standard, each set options comes with appetizers, main, and desserts.
August 31 · SainWe passed by many times and finally we had lunch here, the lunch menu was excellent. We loved all of them and enjoyed. Also the service was attentive and friendly, it’s such a good spot in Chinatown.
August 09 · Fab Fashion SkyWe came as a group of six and were warmly welcomed with a traditional Japanese greeting before being seated right away. We went with the special course and everything was delicious, but the wagyu was definitely my favorite. The service was friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even better.
August 24 · FaridFantastic Yakiniku experience in Chinatown. Reasonable prices given the quality, but be aware that Yakiniku is expensive. Good sale offering and great ambience. The staff is extremely polite and attentive.Silly extra: definitely visit the restroom to live the authentic Japanese toilet experience 😂
August 10 · Alejandro MartínezThis place is over-priced. Food portion is very small given the price tag. They have raving reviews because you get a free drink if you give 5 star. You can find better restaurants in NYC. Do not waste time and money here.
