Yiasou Introduce
Welcome to Yiasou, a distinguished Greek restaurant nestled in the vibrant Sheepshead Bay neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Far more than a simple taverna, Yiasou operates as an *estiatorio*—a more elegant and refined dining establishment that focuses on high-quality, authentic Greek cuisine, with a particular emphasis on impeccably fresh seafood and expertly prepared meat dishes. Opened in 2005 by the Katsichtis family, whose culinary roots trace back to Sparta, Greece, Yiasou has cemented its reputation as a beloved fixture on the picturesque Emmons Avenue waterfront.
For over a decade, New Yorkers have turned to Yiasou for a consistently outstanding dining experience. Guests often praise the warm, attentive service, which makes gathering with family and friends—even large parties with small children—feel welcoming and effortless. The dining room itself provides a cozy, romantic, and casual atmosphere, complete with white tablecloths that hint at the elevated nature of the menu. This establishment successfully captures the spirit and warmth of Mediterranean dining right here in the heart of Brooklyn.
The menu is a journey across the Hellenic culinary landscape. Patrons can begin their meal with a variety of traditional *Orektika* (Appetizers), such as the fluffy Taramosalata ($10.65), the zesty Tzatziki ($10.65), or the famous, flambéed Kefalograviera cheese, Saganaki ($17.75). A robust selection of salads is also available, including the classic Horiatiki Salad ($21.25) and the unique house Yiasou Salad ($16.55) with baby field greens and thinly sliced fennel.
As a premier seafood destination, the selection of fresh catches is a true highlight. The menu boasts a focus on Grilled Whole Fish, featuring options like Lavraki (Mediterranean Sea Bass) at $48.00 (or market price), which is often served whole and designed for sharing—a testament to the generous portions. Beyond the sea, the Specialties section offers a feast of both surf and turf. Diners can enjoy Garidopilafo ($40.15), a shrimp and rice dish baked in a clay pot, or dive into premium cuts like the spectacular Rack Of Lamb ($93.25) and the Paidaki Scharas (marinated and grilled baby lamb chops, $53.15). For those seeking something classic, the Arnaki Yiouvetsi ($38.95), featuring lamb, orzo, and tomato, provides hearty comfort. The consistency in quality—fresh products and excellent presentation—is a hallmark of Yiasou’s kitchen year after year.
Yiasou is conveniently situated along the Sheepshead Bay waterfront, a popular dining and leisure destination in Brooklyn, NY. Its address places it at the heart of the area's vibrant atmosphere.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I've been going to this restaurant for over 10 years with my family and friends. We often gather in a large company, sometimes with small children - and every time we are greeted with warmth and attention. The staff is always polite, friendly, and children are treated with particular care.As for maintenance, tips are often included in the bill when servicing large companies, and this is an absolutely normal practice in the United States. We always understood this and did not feel "deceived". Everything is transparent and honest.Separately, I would like to note the quality of food - always fresh products, excellent presentation and stable quality year after year. It's a pity to see unfair negative reviews - our many years of experience says otherwise.
August 03 · Юля МорозоваWe stumbled upon Yiasou on a recommendation—and what a discovery it was. From the moment we stepped inside, the warm lighting and tasteful Mediterranean décor set the scene for a truly memorable evening. The menu dazzles with an impressive array of fresh seafood—briny oysters, plump shrimp, and perfectly grilled octopus that tasted of the sea. And then there was the lamb: tender, succulent, and done three ways (marinated chops, slow-roasted leg, and whole roasted rack). Each preparation showcased layers of flavor, from bright lemon and oregano to rich garlic and rosemary.Service was nothing short of exceptional. Our waitress, Lolita, balanced genuine warmth with remarkable efficiency—checking in just the right amount, offering expert pairing suggestions, and ensuring our glasses stayed full. It’s rare to feel so well cared for, even on a busy weeknight. All told, Yiasou delivers on every promise of honest, inspired Greek cuisine. Whether you’re craving the catch of the day or a hearty lamb feast, this is the place to go—and don’t miss the chance to be served by Lolita. Highly recommended!
July 23 · Anna ShorThis is a wonderful place where you truly feel immersed in the atmosphere of Greece. All the waiters are very friendly, and the service is outstanding. The food is a form of art on its own — everything was incredibly delicious. The grilled fish is simply top-notch! Cleanliness and care are felt in every detail. We’ll definitely come back with the whole family, more than once!
July 25 · Елена ДмитренкоI recently visited Yiasou with my best friend, who had been raving about it, calling it the best restaurant in Brooklyn — and now I completely understand why. From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The grilled octopus was absolutely divine — perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor. I can honestly say I’ve never had such delicious octopus anywhere else. And the tiramisu? Heavenly! Creamy, rich, and the perfect sweet ending to our meal. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. They took the time to help us choose the right dishes and even recommended cocktails that paired beautifully with our food. Everything was made with care and served with genuine hospitality. At the end of our meal, they surprised us with warm, freshly baked cookies — such a thoughtful and heartwarming touch that made the experience feel even more special.Thank you so much to everyone at Yiasou for such a memorable evening. I will definitely be returning soon with my family!
July 22 · ani xantadzeI was planning on going to another restaurant near Yiasou, but after reading their menu, I decided to try this place - I've passed by it so many times!I loved the atmosphere; it was very comfortable and spacious and the music was very calming. We ordered braised mussels, a combination Greek spread, grilled octopus (it was amazing), a grilled chicken kabob dish with sauteed vegetables, and a lamb dish with orzo. I was hesitant because I thought the orzo would be overcooked and mushy, but it wasn't. The lamb also came right off the bone. Chicken and beef are common things I eat, but lamb isn't and it didn't disappoint!Everything was so delicious we ended up ordering espresso and tiramisu, just to sit a while longer and have conversation. I believe Mediterranean dishes are healthier and "cleaner" than what I normally eat. Everything was so appetizing and I ate a lot, but I didn't feel sluggish or too stuffed like other greasy foods. The waiters and staff were also very attentive and quick to replace utensils and dishes, and serve our food. I will definitely be coming back to this place. I'm upset I hadn't tried out this place sooner!
