A trip to Arthur Avenue—the Bronx’s legendary and truly authentic "Little Italy"—is never complete without a stop at a bread shop. Among the storied purveyors that line this culinary mecca, Addeo & Sons Bakery stands as a bedrock institution. For over 80 years and across three generations, the Addeo family has been a premiere maker of traditional Italian breads and biscuits, upholding a tradition of baking excellence that is central to the Arthur Avenue experience. This is not just a place to buy bread; it is a vital piece of New York City’s Italian-American culinary heritage, offering a taste of old-world quality right here in the heart of the Bronx.
For New Yorkers and visitors across the Tri-state area who know where to find the best Italian-American foods, Arthur Avenue is a destination. Unlike other "Little Italy" neighborhoods that have seen their cultural identity fade, the Belmont neighborhood of the Bronx remains vibrant, authentic, and packed with high-quality artisanal food shops. Addeo & Sons Bakery is a shining example of this enduring tradition, welcoming customers with the unmistakable, intoxicating aroma of freshly baked Italian bread that has defined the avenue for decades.
Addeo & Sons Bakery is perfectly situated at the center of the Bronx's Little Italy, making it an easy and essential stop on any food crawl through the Belmont neighborhood.

It's the perfect complement to the other incredible ingredients found on Arthur Avenue, whether you're pairing a crusty loaf with cheese from a nearby deli, or using their pizza dough for a Friday night pie. June 07 · Maitreya PadukoneWhen I got my bread home I read the ingredients that was on the bag.I am so disappointed in the artificial butter, margarine, palm oil, and all the many horrible ingredients this so called fresh made bread includes.
July 05 · Lisa RMy dad used to bring home fresh bread from Addeo as a special treat for the family. For years we'd always enjoy the unexpected surprise. My dad, who was kind of an aficionado of all things Italian... he regarded Addeo as the very best.My kids, too, remember this fondly and carry on our family tradition of bringing home the perfect bread.
November 27 · Gina RomanoSame products, same taste, same employees since, like, forever. Probably they served bread starting in the early Neolithic. Yes, the place is very, very low-tech. They started taking credit card only after covid, I suspect. Their prosciutto bread is excellent. Note: the employees are Albanian, like at many other Arthur Ave. shops, where the children of the old owners moved to Westchester and to white-collar jobs. Albanians are geographically and culturally contiguous to Italians, and I find this a beautiful example of the adaptability and continuity of traditions.
January 21 · Giuseppe PaleologoYou don't come here because it's a charming bakery, you come here to get yourself a loaf of bread that you can't get anywhere else in the world. A loaf of bread so good, if they charged you five bucks for a stick of butter, you would buy it and eat as much bread and butter as you could.
