I would give Ahimsa more stars if I could! Rightfully named after the most important yogic principle, this vegetarian/vegan Indian restaurant is top-tier in quality & service. This evening I had the samosa appetizer which came with two delicious chutneys for dipping. For my entree I had the masala dosa, which was the best I’ve had outside of India. 10/10 would highly recommend, it is a healthy portion with a huge amount of bread, a big serving of sambar, coconut & tamarind (?) chutney. Stellar. The ambiance was pleasant: tidy & inviting, menus come on tablets which is nice. The waitstaff were very sweet & accommodating (it was a Saturday evening at prime time & I was dining solo which I understand could be disappointing for staff). Nonetheless, they were very accommodating, welcoming & provided great service.Thank you, Ahmisa, I will be back!Ram Ram 🙏 - Edward Gieda III

Ahimsa Introduce

In a city as diverse and dynamic as New York, the search for a truly exceptional and authentic dining experience is a constant pursuit. For those who appreciate the rich, flavorful, and often plant-based culinary traditions of India, Ahimsa stands out as a true culinary gem. More than just a restaurant, Ahimsa is an embodiment of its name, a Sanskrit word meaning "do no harm," which is a guiding principle for its entirely vegetarian and vegan menu. This philosophy extends beyond the food to create a dining environment that is peaceful, welcoming, and deeply respectful. Situated in the heart of Midtown East, Ahimsa offers a refreshing and delightful alternative to the conventional dining scene, proving that vegetarian and vegan food can be as flavorful, satisfying, and sophisticated as any other cuisine.

The menu at Ahimsa is a comprehensive and artful exploration of Indian cuisine, with a strong focus on South Indian staples like "dosas" and "uttappam" alongside a wide array of North Indian curries. The "Masala Dosa," a large, crispy crepe filled with a savory potato mixture and served with "sambar" and chutneys, is a fan favorite and has been lauded as some of the best in the city. Beyond the classics, the menu caters to a variety of dietary needs with dedicated sections for gluten-free, vegan, and kosher options. From the popular "Aloo Papdi Chaat" and "Gobi Manchurian" appetizers to a wide selection of curries like "Kadai Paneer Masala" and "Baigan Bharta," every dish is crafted with fresh, thoughtful ingredients. The restaurant’s beverage list is equally impressive, featuring a wide range of spirits from rare tequilas and fine bourbons to a curated selection of wines and beers, providing the perfect accompaniment to your meal.
