Al-Andalus Introduce
Tucked away in the vibrant East Village, Al-Andalus offers a dining experience unlike any other in New York City. This unique restaurant blends the rich culinary traditions of Middle Eastern and Andalusian cuisine, creating a tapas menu that is both innovative and deeply flavorful. What truly sets Al-Andalus apart is its entirely vegan menu, which masterfully reinterprets classic dishes without compromising on taste or texture. From the moment you step inside, the ambiance is warm and unique, with elegant decor featuring hand-painted tiles and beautiful gold embellishments that transport you to a different world.
Al-Andalus is more than just a place to eat; it's a destination for a special night out. The atmosphere is casual yet trendy, and the restaurant is a proud LGBTQ+ friendly and transgender-safe space, ensuring that all guests feel welcomed and respected. The staff is consistently praised for being friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, adding to the overall positive and inviting vibe. The restaurant also features live music and performances, which further enhance the dining experience, making it perfect for a romantic date, a group celebration, or simply a treat for yourself.
The menu is a testament to the creativity of the culinary team, offering a variety of small plates designed for sharing. Popular dishes include the Fava Falafel, a must-try for any visitor, and the deliciously crispy Fried Olives. The breads, such as the Barbari and Baladi Pita, are also a major highlight and are essential for soaking up the flavors of the different tapas. For a larger, shareable meal, the vegan Paella is a standout, and it's a testament to the fact that you don't need meat to create a dish with deep, satisfying flavor. Even "hardcore meat eaters" have been known to be impressed by the richness and complexity of the plant-based offerings.
Beyond the food, Al-Andalus offers a well-curated selection of beverages, including a bar onsite with a variety of beers, cocktails, and a unique wine program featuring selections from Spain, Turkey, and Lebanon. The cocktails are particularly popular and are often served in "adorable glasses," adding to the fun and playful aspect of the dining experience. The dessert menu, with options like Rice Pudding and an Orange Blossom Tart, provides a sweet and satisfying end to the meal.
While the tapas plates are intentionally small and priced at or below $10, they are packed with flavor. It is recommended to order a variety of dishes to share with your group to get a full experience of the menu. This approach encourages communal dining and allows you to sample a wide range of the inventive flavors on offer. Whether you're a devoted vegan or simply curious about plant-based cuisine, Al-Andalus is a perfect place to explore new tastes in a beautiful setting.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Absolutely loved the place & the concept! Got to try a lot of the dishes like the fried olives, shakshuka, eggplant, butter bean, leeks, paella, all the 3 breads, rice pudding, papa’s bravas, raspberry tartThe breads are amazing, the traditional foods are a must try, the dessert could be a little betterOverall a v good experience would highly recommend. Will be back to try the other stuff !
July 25 · ACame here for a birthday dinner and was not disappointed! The ambience was very warm and unique, the staff were friendly, and we were seated at a semi-private table towards the back of the restaurant. The best part of the experience was the delicious food–we shared a variety of tapas and paella, and not a single dish disappointed. Our favorite tapas were the mushrooms, the eggplant, and the patatas bravas. The paella was also excellent, and the cocktails were fun and served in adorable glasses. I was the only vegetarian of the group, but even the hardcore meat eaters loved our meal! The only caveat I'll add is that each tapa, while priced at or below $10, was quite small. We ended up ordering maybe a dozen tapas plus paella and a few drinks split amongst a group of 6, and spent about $55(?) per person. All in all I'm glad I chose Al-Andalus for my birthday, it was a very special treat.
September 15 · Laura Chevalierincredible incredible meal! who knew vegan cuisine and especially vegan tapas could be so delicious? their staff is kind and welcoming, and such a cute spot as well. would highly recommend for friends or dates or enemies you’d like to soften!
August 19 · Yang WestThis place is Lebanese vegan and the spices and flavors are out of this world even if you are a huge meat eater. The sautéed mushrooms taste like you’re eating a ribeye steak! I’ve never tasted vegan like it; it’s to die for! The plates are tapas style and eight dollars, nine dollars, $10 and you have about five or six and share. For two people it was $80 and we absolutely stuffed our faces.
August 20 · Mandy UrenaWOW. Overthrow Hospitality has done it again. Everything was amazing. The shitake mushrooms and white garlic gazpacho mousse were among my favorites. All of the dishes were less than $10! Cocktails too! What?! We ended up spending about $120 for two people but that included 5 dishes and 4 drinks. They also have a tasting menu for $50 per person and we will be coming back for it.
