Georgian cuisine is known for its distinctive use of walnuts, pomegranate, and a complex spice blend known as khmeli suneli, which creates savory dishes unlike anything else. Apani focuses on showcasing these iconic elements, providing a casual and accessible way for Brooklyn residents to enjoy everything from world-famous cheese breads to savory meat dumplings. This emphasis on efficiency and accessibility is crucial for the fast-paced New York lifestyle, making Apani a practical and delicious alternative to conventional takeout options.

These are perfect for small plates or light, flavorful appetizers.

The combination of fresh-baked goods and prepared cold appetizers makes for an excellent spread.
For a first-time visitor or a regular looking for reliable comfort food, the Khachapuri and Khinkali are essential. The Imeruli Khachapuri ($7.00) is the ubiquitous classic—a perfect, cheesy, round bread that is a staple of Georgian food. For a quick, layered, and buttery treat, the Penovani Khachapuri ($2.00) offers an incredibly affordable and satisfying snack.
The single Khinkali dumplings, priced at just $1.00 each, are an economical way to sample this delicacy. Ordering a handful for a quick, juicy bite is a great way to experience the famous soup-filled dumplings of Georgia. Given the importance of the savory broth inside, enjoying them quickly after pickup or delivery is highly recommended.
Additionally, the prepared cold dishes offer phenomenal value and unique flavors. Options like Eggplant Rolls ($6.99 per lb) and Pkhali ($6.99 per lb) are must-try items. These dishes, rich with walnut paste and fresh herbs, are great for packing a meal with distinct, complex flavors that can easily be enjoyed at home or on a lunch break. The portions, often sold by the pound, allow customers to customize their order size to fit any appetite or gathering.
It is important for patrons to set their expectations accordingly. Apani is primarily a bakery and prepared-food counter, which emphasizes speed and efficiency. When ordering hot prepared entrees, customers should communicate clearly about their heating preferences, as reviews indicate that reheat methods may vary for quick service. However, for sheer accessibility, price point, and a focused offering of Georgian staples like the various Khachapuri and Khinkali, Apani remains a crucial and authentic source of comfort food for the New York community in Sheepshead Bay. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Cheeseless Khachapuri = Major LetdownI was so excited to try this Khachapuri, but it was a total letdown. The bread was fine, but where was the cheese? There was maybe a spoonful in the middle—definitely not enough to call it a proper Khachapuri. It felt like I was just eating a piece of bread. Really frustrating when you’re expecting something rich and savory. Not worth it.
July 15 · Dan KramerI went to this place today because I was starving. Wrong decision. She heat up the food on microwave even though I specifically told her not to. Still she did. I also asked for cherry blintzes and they were spoiled. The bread with meat inside was dry and tasteless. I dont think they sell fresh food. Be aware!
June 30 · Exodus ExoI’ve never tried Georgian food so I ordered two bags of toogootogo to sample it. It’s a total surprise. Really love the meat filling pie and some small meat rolls. Just don’t know what the name of those items next time I’ll definitely come back for more.
December 17 · Sophie ZSome of the best, homemade-tasting Georgian food I've ever had. I'm so glad I decided to walk in and try this place. The food is incredibly fresh, especially in the morning but even if you go at night. Counter service is friendly.
May 22 · Siobahn KCame here to get some khinkali (soup dumplings). The flavor is pretty good, but a little pricey. The size varies between each other, some are bigger and some have odd shape. I probably wouldn't pay this much and have to cook them myself.
