Specifically, the "Sándwich de Pierna y Queso Gouda" (Leg and Gouda Cheese Sandwich) is a fan favorite, praised for its perfect balance of textures and flavors. The combination of soft, juicy leg meat, crunchy bread, and melted Gouda cheese creates a truly satisfying experience. The "Completo" sandwiches are also highly recommended for those with a big appetite, offering a combination of meats that is both hearty and delicious.
Beyond the sandwiches, the "Pica Pollo," or fried chicken, is an absolute must-try. This signature dish is celebrated for its exceptional quality and flavor, with many customers considering it superior to others in the city. The crispy exterior and juicy, flavorful meat make it a top choice for a fulfilling meal. The sides, such as the classic "Papas Fritas" (French Fries) and "Tostones" (Fried Plantains), are the perfect accompaniment to the main dishes, adding a comforting and familiar touch to the meal.
Lastly, no visit to Barra Payan is complete without trying one of their fresh juices or smoothies. The selection is vast, and they are known for being incredibly fresh and flavorful. The "Chinola" (Passion Fruit) juice is a particularly popular choice, offering a tangy and sweet contrast to the savory food. Other options like "Lechosa" (Papaya), "Melón" (Cantaloupe), and "Guayaba" (Guava) provide a refreshing and authentic taste of the Caribbean. The combination of a perfectly crafted sandwich, some of the best fried chicken in the area, and a fresh, cold juice is what makes a visit to Barra Payan a truly memorable and worthwhile experience for anyone seeking a genuine taste of Dominican food in New York City.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1It was a first time, after reading reviews I was expecting bad Custumer service but overall everyone was very attentive, the cashier was very helpful, the menu is also paste on the counter. The sandwich “pierna con queso Gouda” was soft, crunchy and juicy, so good. The chinola juice is perfect and the fried chicken to be honest is better than the one sold at equis picapollo. 🥱Knowing Spanish does give you an advantage when you’re gonna order fried chicken (specific pieces) because most of the staff don’t know english so maybe go with the pieces of chicken that you want translated to Spanish on a piece of paper. The guys serving the food are trying their best, so make sure if you don’t know Spanish so you can get the exact pieces you want. Also I strongly advise them to at least have one person that can speak English serving. If you love fried chicken or pica pollo this is your place.I left full and with a smile on my face.
August 16 · Ashley H MThis was the worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The first time I walked in, I had no idea how to order—no one greeted me, asked if I needed help, or even acknowledged I was there. I felt completely ignored, so I left.I gave them a second chance a couple of weeks later and had the exact same experience. There were no menus posted, and when I paid for my food, no one explained how or where I would receive it.It’s not just me—my mother, my aunt, and my mother-in-law (who is Dominican and speaks Spanish) all received the same dismissive service. This is not a language barrier issue—it’s a customer service issue. They are, without a doubt, the worst. Neither I nor my family and friends will ever go back.
August 13 · Jada LewisThe food was great but service is very unprofessional. I waited at lease 5 minuets before I was even notice. No one spoke english I had to point to whst I wanted on the menu.
June 09 · Robert “Jedirob” BarrettFood is great but service is terrible , everyone is always distracted and they are super slow to get things done here love the food but they need to focus more on customer's satisfaction
August 14 · Cav DazThe food is great. But the service is horrible. Attend costumers very slow
