Ben's Pizzeria Introduce
In a city that lives and breathes pizza, finding a place that feels like a genuine, timeless institution can be a challenge. Ben's Pizzeria, located in the heart of Greenwich Village, is exactly that. It's not a trendy new spot or a gourmet, high-priced eatery. Instead, it embodies the classic New York pizza joint, a place where the focus is on a perfectly crafted, no-frills slice. For decades, Ben's has been a reliable source of comfort food, serving up slices and pies that are simple, delicious, and authentically New York. It's the kind of place that has become a part of the city's fabric, a go-to spot for locals, college students, and tourists who want to experience a true piece of New York food culture.
The atmosphere at Ben's Pizzeria is as classic as its menu. It's a casual, bustling space with a straightforward counter where you can see the day's fresh pies on display. The simple, functional setup is designed for quick service and an efficient flow of customers, especially during the lunch and late-night rushes. There's no pretense here; the vibe is lively and authentic, with the sounds of the city and the aroma of baking pizza filling the air. The long hours make it a popular spot for a quick bite after class or a late-night snack after a night out. Ben's has been featured in popular culture, adding to its legendary status, and it remains a place where people can grab a slice and continue on their way, or find a spot to sit and soak in the lively Greenwich Village atmosphere.
Ben's Pizzeria is situated at 123 MacDougal St, New York, NY 10012, USA, placing it in one of the most vibrant and iconic neighborhoods in Manhattan. Its location is a major part of its appeal, as it is just a stone's throw from Washington Square Park, a hub of activity and a popular gathering spot for students and artists. The proximity to New York University makes it a consistent favorite among college students.
The pizzeria is highly accessible via public transportation, with the West 4th Street – Washington Square subway station (serving the A, B, C, D, E, F, and M lines) just a short walk away. This makes it a convenient destination for anyone in the city, whether they are coming from uptown or from another borough. For those exploring the neighborhood, Ben's Pizzeria is a perfect pit stop on a stroll down MacDougal Street, known for its eclectic mix of restaurants, comedy clubs, and shops. While parking can be a challenge in this densely populated area, the ease of public transit makes it simple to get a taste of this classic pizzeria without the stress of driving. Ben's also has a wheelchair-accessible entrance, ensuring that it is a welcoming spot for all.

- Calzones and Heroes: Beyond pizza, the menu includes hearty calzones and classic hot heroes like Chicken Parmigiana and Meatball Parmigiana, providing a full range of Italian-American comfort food favorites.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I was actually looking for whatever pizzeria was open at this time, and ended up here which is well whatever ok… 🤣 not the best and not the worst. It was a decent slice but definitely nothing special. Do not hope to get your mind blown here. I ordered a supreme and it was $6. Usual dingy pizza shop vibe with decent service.
August 01 · Sapphira BellaI’ve been coming to Ben’s Pizzeria for years – for me, it’s a true New York institution 🍕. Located right by Washington Square Park, it’s the perfect spot to grab a delicious pizza before or after a walk through the park. The atmosphere is lively, authentic, and the pizza is simply great. If you’d like to see more of my hand-drawn city views of New York, feel free to check out my Instagram or my website.
August 25 · Heiner RadauPretty much the worst pizza I have ever eaten—or tried to eat. After a few bites, I threw it away.
August 13 · Andreas RaisslePlain Slice frankly sucks. And Dough/crust lacks flavor. Nice fountain soda, though.* Edit to respond to restaurant’s response to review: Thank you for your courteous reply. I feel some guilt; b/c I don’t want to participate in hurting your business, truly. I even have friends who run a restaurant family business. I wanted to “call it like I see it”, but I also want to highlight the excellent points; they are important and valuable. The ambiance of this place is truly “classic NYC pizza stop, which is becoming more rare. I like it. A good fountain soda is hard to find, particularly in NYC. (The machines require a fair amount of cleaning and maintenance. Many places are just not doing it.) Visitors, transplants, humans in general—MANY are feeling they deeply want or need a “good fountain soda”I *highly recommend* your place for a proper, delicious soda break. As for my opinion of the slice I ate, your mileage may vary. There are as many opinions as there are New Yorkers.
July 14 · Berit BentsonOkay pizza. Mine is not that amazing. Maybe I should try the other flavour. Went here after a night out watching band at a nearby bar.
