We had an incredible experience at Bitter Monk. The bartender who served us (his name was Ryan) was outstanding. He was friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about his craft. Watching him create the “Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea” cocktail was like watching an artist at work. The drink itself was perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious. You can really tell they put thought and creativity into every detail. We had such a great time and will definitely be coming back for more. Highly recommend! - Breanne Garrison

Bitter Monk Introduce

Introduction / Overview: Brooklyn’s Sanctuary for Artful Cocktails

Nestled within the vibrant, sprawling complex of Industry City in Sunset Park, **Bitter Monk** stands out as a unique and intimate destination for New York cocktail enthusiasts. More than just a bar, it operates as the official tasting room for its micro-distillery and spirits brand, **ATHERAS SPIRITS**. It's the Brooklyn sibling to the critically acclaimed Sugar Monk in Harlem, bringing a similar seductive, artful, and elevated approach to mixology down to the waterfront.

Bitter Monk focuses intensely on crafting cocktails that highlight their own **house-made Amari, herbal liqueurs, and bitters**. Their signature style involves incorporating a fascinating array of herbs, spices, wild plants, roots, fruits, and flowers, many of which are foraged, creating multi-layered, inventive, and exquisite drinks that guests consistently praise. Reviewers frequently describe the experience as watching an artist at work, noting that the drinks, particularly the clarified cocktail selections like the 'Ugetsu' and 'Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea,' are perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious. This dedication to the craft and house-made ingredients sets Bitter Monk apart in the competitive NYC bar scene.

The ambiance is key to the experience. Designed with a distinct 'ecclesiastic' feeling, the space is **Casual, Cozy, and Trendy**, featuring dim golden lighting, soft leather seating, and a stunning stained-glass window that casts beautiful light patterns—a nod to the long history of distillation often associated with monks. It’s an ideal setting for **Groups** looking for a unique evening, and a proudly **LGBTQ+ friendly** and **Transgender safespace**, welcoming all members of the diverse Brooklyn community. With a focus on **Fast service** and expert knowledge from the staff, Bitter Monk provides an unpretentious yet sophisticated cocktail journey.

Location and Accessibility in Industry City

Bitter Monk is strategically located in the heart of Industry City, a major commercial and creative hub in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, at **68 34th St, Brooklyn, NY 11232, USA**. Specifically, you will find it on the second floor of Building 6, often situated near other distilleries and unique local businesses, making it a perfect anchor for an evening out in Industry City.

The bar’s location within the Industry City campus ensures excellent accessibility for New York residents. It's easily accessible via public transit, being a reasonable walk from the **36th Street subway station** (D, N, R lines). The current public data does not explicitly list the accessibility features like wheelchair ramps or restrooms for this location within the broader Industry City building, but the complex generally adheres to modern accessibility standards.
