Boqueria Soho Introduce
In a city as diverse as New York, finding a dining experience that feels like a true escape can be a rare treat. Boqueria Soho, a celebrated Spanish restaurant on Spring Street, offers exactly that. It's an "energetic yet intimate Barcelona-style tapas bar" that transports diners to the heart of Spain from the moment they step inside. The ambiance is designed to make you "believe you are actually in Spain," with a lively and bustling atmosphere that encourages shared plates, conversation, and a good time. A beloved local hotspot since 2008, Boqueria has mastered the art of combining authentic Spanish flavors with the vibrant energy of Manhattan's iconic SoHo neighborhood.
The concept of tapas—small, shareable plates—is at the core of the Boqueria experience. It's a style of dining that is inherently social and fun, allowing you to sample a wide variety of dishes and flavors. Whether you're in the mood for traditional classics like Patatas Bravas and Croquettes, or something more adventurous like Pulpo, the menu is designed for exploration and discovery. Beyond the food, the restaurant is known for its legendary sangrias, great cocktails, and extensive wine list, all of which perfectly complement the Spanish cuisine. Boqueria Soho is more than just a place to eat; it's a destination for gathering with friends and family, celebrating a special occasion, or simply enjoying a slice of Spain in the city that never stops.
Boqueria Soho is conveniently located at 171 Spring St, New York, NY 10012. This puts it squarely in one of downtown Manhattan's most stylish and iconic neighborhoods. Its central location makes it a great spot for a meal after a day of shopping in SoHo, visiting art galleries, or simply exploring the city's vibrant streets. The restaurant is easily accessible by public transportation, and for those who choose to drive, there is both free street parking and a paid parking lot available, though it's important to note that parking in this area can be difficult to find.
The restaurant offers a variety of service options to fit your needs, including dine-in, takeout, delivery, and no-contact delivery. For a memorable al fresco meal, outdoor seating is also available. Boqueria is popular and often has a wait, so brunch, lunch, and dinner reservations are highly recommended, especially for groups. The establishment is very accommodating and family-friendly, offering high chairs and welcoming a diverse crowd. The cafe is also LGBTQ+ friendly and a transgender safe space. The atmosphere is designed for everyone, with amenities like a bar onsite, restrooms (including a gender-neutral restroom), and Wi-Fi available for guests.
Boqueria Soho offers a comprehensive range of services that go beyond just food, making it a versatile venue for any occasion. Their focus is on delivering a complete and authentic Spanish experience. Here's a closer look at what they offer:
Tapas and Small Plates: This is the heart of the Boqueria experience. The menu is filled with a wide variety of tapas, from classic dishes like Patatas Bravas and Tortilla Espanola to unique creations like Datiles (dates wrapped in bacon) and Bruselas Iberico (crispy brussels sprouts with Iberico vinaigrette). This "small plates" style of dining is perfect for sharing and trying a bit of everything.
Paella and Mains: For a more substantial meal, Boqueria offers a selection of authentic Spanish paellas, including Seafood Paella and Short Rib Paella. It's important to note that these dishes are made to order and take approximately 45 minutes to prepare, so plan accordingly. Other main courses include dishes like Salmon Catalana and Carne A La Parilla, providing a full-meal option for those who prefer it.
Full-Service Bar: The restaurant is also a dedicated tapas bar and wine bar. It offers a "great cocktails" and a "great wine list," including a variety of Spanish wines. They also serve beer and hard liquor. The happy hour menu is a great way to sample their drinks and a selection of food at a reduced price.
Events and Catering: Boqueria Soho is a popular event venue for both small and large groups. They host parties year-round, and their Barcelona-inspired menu is perfect for gatherings. They also offer a delivery service, making it easy to enjoy their delicious food from the comfort of your own home.
Boqueria Soho has earned its reputation as a local favorite due to several key features that set it apart. These are the elements that consistently draw in and impress customers:
Authentic Spanish Ambiance: The ambiance is a major highlight, with customers noting that it makes them feel like they are "actually in Spain." The lively and "vibrant" atmosphere, combined with the "warm, modern space," creates a truly immersive dining experience. The presence of an open kitchen where you can watch chefs work adds to the excitement and authenticity.
High-Quality and Delicious Food: The food is consistently praised for its quality and flavor. A chef is described as "definitely an expert," and the food is rated as "consistently high quality delicious." Specific dishes that receive high marks include the crispy calamari, garlic shrimp, and the Patatas Bravas. The cheese and charcuterie board is also a popular choice and is perfect for sharing.
Great Drinks and Sangria: Boqueria is known for its excellent beverage program. The sangria is described as "legendary," and the "great cocktails" and "great wine list" ensure there's a perfect pairing for every dish. The full bar and availability of happy hour make it a great place to meet for a drink.
Attentive and Friendly Staff: Despite being a bustling restaurant, the staff is noted for being "very friendly" and "attentive." The service is generally described as "fast," which is a bonus in a city where time is of the essence. This warm and welcoming approach makes every customer feel like a valued guest.
With a menu that invites you to try everything, it's hard to narrow down the choices. However, for a first-timer, a few must-try items stand out. Starting with a Tabla De Tres (or Tabla De Seis for a larger group) is a great idea. The build-your-own cheese and charcuterie boards are a classic way to begin a tapas meal and are perfect for sharing. For appetizers, the Gambas Al Ajillo (garlic shrimp) is a non-negotiable choice, as one customer noted it’s one of the best dishes in Spain. The Croquetas (either mushroom or ham) and the Patatas Bravas are also consistently praised and are quintessential Spanish tapas.
For a main course, it's worth the wait for a paella. The Seafood Paella is a popular choice, and while it takes time, the result is a flavorful and impressive dish. If you're a fan of something different, the Short Rib Paella is a unique and highly-rated option. And to end the meal, the Churros Clásicos are a classic Spanish dessert, and while one customer found them to be undercooked, they are a staple and worth a try. Pair your meal with one of their "legendary sangrias" for a truly authentic Spanish experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The ambiance inside of Boqueria makes you believe you are actually in Spain. We had calamari, croquettes, shrimps in garlic sauce, and Paella. All this with sangria. The chef is definitely an expert, and the staff is very friendly. Will not hesitate to visit them again!
August 27 · Oleg PolonskyI got off work and was craving a good drink and meat and cheese board. I stumbled upon this place very randomly. Quickly was sad and got a seat at the bar. I was planning to stay forJust one drink and charcuterie but I ended up having a whole mealFood - I got cheese and meat while I waited and it was all good. However u can tell it’s not enough bread right when they dropped it off and I asked thay moment for more - they took quite a whileTo provide the bread tho.We got the more expensive option of the chefs choice shortly after - I knew this was gonna be too much food but I couldn’t help myself. It started with a cheap salad which was fine (is this really a chef choice). All appetizers and tapas were excellent. The croquet and expensive jamon shined but all tasted great. Patatos were amazing tooWe got the meat paella (against my choice) cus my partner doesn’t like fish. It was fine. It was my least favorite of all the dishes served. Was sad to see the garlic shrimp wasn’t served with the chef choice cus it’s one of the best dishes in Spain. And also saw a lot of people order some bread dish.My partner is a huge dessert person and sadly the churros were undercooked and we didn’t even finish them. Sad way to end the meal.Overall a great experience. The blue cheese olives were amazing too
September 08 · Jack TuggleI visited this restaurant with a friend and the overall experience was average. The ambiance was pleasant , but we faced an issue upon arrival. Although we had a reservation for 8 PM, the host asked us to wait and we ended up waiting around 15 minutes, which was inconvenient considering the reservation. As for the food, it was okay not bad, but nothing special. Some dishes were decent, while others were quite plain and didn’t stand out. The service once seated was good, but overall, I expected a bit more based on the reviews I had seen.I might consider giving it another try in the future, but with more realistic expectations.
June 09 · Mario MDon't let the exterior fool you. Step inside. Breathe it all in. This is a special place. From drink to food. - if you're looking for Spain you've come to a great place. The selections, preparations, service and the full crew were fantastic. I'm so glad we stopped in!
