Brooklyn Habit Introduce
For New Yorkers who live and work in the vibrant, brownstone-lined streets of Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn Habit is more than just a local coffee shop—it’s a multifaceted community hub. Located on the bustling Smith Street, this establishment seamlessly blends the essential role of a daytime café with the relaxed appeal of an evening wine and beer bar, creating a truly unique and welcoming spot for the neighborhood. Identifying proudly as an LGBTQ+ owned business and a transgender safespace, Brooklyn Habit has intentionally cultivated a warm, cozy, and inclusive atmosphere that makes everyone feel at home.
In a city where finding a comfortable spot to settle in with your laptop or meet a small group of friends can be a challenge, Brooklyn Habit offers a highly sought-after environment. It’s popular for solo dining, a go-to for remote workers, and an excellent location for casual meetings. The overall vibe is casual and trendy, making it the perfect setting for either a productive morning or a relaxed afternoon break. Patrons often remark on the fast service, the consistently high quality of the coffee, and the impressive diversity of the tea selection, solidifying its reputation as a reliable daily essential for the local populace.
What sets Brooklyn Habit apart is its exceptional versatility, catering to New York's diverse daily rhythms. The menu shifts effortlessly from high-quality morning beverages to evening social drinks. By day, patrons can enjoy meticulously crafted hot coffees, from a simple Drip to a rich Mocha, alongside an extensive array of hot and iced teas. By night, the offerings expand dramatically to include beer, wine, and happy hour drinks, making it a perfect spot for unwinding after a long day in the city. This flexibility—catering to breakfast, lunch, dessert, and even happy hour—makes it a rare find in the crowded Brooklyn café scene, ensuring that there is always a reason for a quick bite or a longer, more social visit.
Furthermore, this cafe champions an environmentally conscious approach that resonates strongly with the mindful New York community. They proactively offer "for here" real mugs to customers dining in, actively reducing plastic waste—an "empowering choice" that customers have specifically praised in reviews. While this commitment to sustainability is noted, the core experience is always centered on quality. Even when service style may occasionally lean towards self-service for added flavors and milks, the overall quality of the core product, the coffee itself, remains consistently "nice" and worth the price of admission. Brooklyn Habit is an authentic Carroll Gardens treasure, providing great offerings and a vital, inclusive community space.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Came in for two iced coffees. We were asked how we wanted our coffee and the person working took the milk out, put it on the counter next to the coffee and told us the syrup we wanted was on the other side of the bad. I don’t mind making my own coffee, but for $14 and it was slow was not my favorite. The coffee quality was nice though. Also why ask how we wanted it if we’re making it anyway?Expensive for what you get. Next time I want to make my own coffee, I’ll head to a corner store for $3.
June 28 · Haley GashiThanks for offering REAL MUGS so we don’t need to create plastic trash when dining in! An empowering choice to make less trash. Latte was lovely.Would love to see some signage promoting “for here” mugs for folks so more will use them! Also would love maybe 1-2 tables reserved for folks *not* working from laptops—would make meeting friends for coffee way more doable.Anyway thanks for the plastic free option!
May 01 · SheilaCute coffee shop that’s nice to chill out w/ a laptop at. I came here through the pandemic and hadn’t been back since, and was pleasantly surprised at all the food options.
March 03 · Claire TownsendNice coffee shop with a calm peaceful vibe that takes you away from the busy lifestyle of the city, as a tourist this is a great place to relax
August 31 · Joydeep SinghAbsolutely a great place for the perfect croissant and Dirty Latte. I'll be visiting again soon.
