When you visit Catania Bakery, you're faced with a dizzying array of delicious options. However, a few items stand out and are consistently recommended by both regular patrons and first-time visitors. The bakery is famous for its pastries, and the lobster tails, or sfogliatelle, are a must-try. Described as incredibly fresh, with a perfect combination of a flaky, crunchy exterior and a creamy, rich filling, they are often hailed as a top-tier example of this classic Italian dessert.
Another highly recommended pastry is the cannoli. As a staple of Italian bakeries, the quality of a cannoli can make or break a reputation, and Catania Bakery's are consistently praised for their fresh, crispy shells and delicious, not-overly-sweet ricotta filling. Beyond the classics, the bakery's fresh bread and cakes also receive high marks, with one reviewer noting that even after being frozen, their bagels were "just as good as when I bought it."
For those who prefer savory over sweet, the deli offerings are also well worth exploring. The menu features a variety of sandwiches on hero bread, including unique creations like "The Bobby," with mortadella, soppresata, ham, and provolone. The breakfast sandwiches, such as the Croissant with Bacon, Egg & Cheese, are also a popular choice for a hearty start to the day. The convenience of being able to grab a fantastic coffee—be it a cappuccino, which one customer loved for breakfast, or a refreshing iced coffee—alongside a fresh pastry makes for an unbeatable combination.
While a few recent reviews have mentioned issues with consistency, the overwhelming positive feedback from the community and long-time patrons suggests that the bakery's commitment to freshness and tradition remains a core part of its identity. For any New Yorker looking for an authentic taste of an old-world Italian bakery, Catania Bakery is a place to visit and discover for yourself.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I live on Long Island and my cousins brought over some of these wonderful pastries yesterday and they were the most freshest, delicious Italian pastries I’ve ever had! The doughs were so fluffy, the custards and fillings on point! I can’t say enough, everything so beyond fresh! Definitely looking forward to stopping in next time I’m in the area! 🥰And this morning, I made a cappuccino and had some for breakfast! Delicious!
January 30 · Meg TaylorI wish I could give it zero stars. Stopped by and bought a cake. I've had this cake from this bakery before and never had an issue with it except for today. The cake was supposed to be a lemon meringue cake but there was absolutely no lemon filling inside and no lemon flavor at all. The cake was a two layer sponge cake filled with plain whipped cream and decorated with meringue on the outside. It had coconut and small squares of cake as decoration around the sides that were so stale you could break a window with them. Not to mention after cutting into the cake there was an empty void for the center. A big giant hole dead center of the cake. Please see pictures. They must have a new baker because this cake was terrible and a waste of money. After reading other customer reviews I can see this business never responds to their customer reviews guess they don't care about losing valuable patrons.
March 06 · DebraCatania is an exceptional bakery, renowned for its delightful assortment of cookies and tarts. Their cakes are also excellent, but I especially enjoy ordering their cheesecake, which never fails to impress.
June 04 · Jamie LI’ve always had a wonderful experience here. The pastries and cakes are top notch, but I’ve always been even more impressed by the customer service. The women at the counter are very sweet and helpful. I maintain that you will never find a better cup of coffee anywhere in the city than you will at a legit Italian Bakery.
March 08 · Colleen MeagherThe screen behind counter clearly says tell us how we are doing write a review so the young lady that started taking care of me says first I can’t write a name on a cake which I was buying two I said I’ve gotten cakes here many times, she replies well I can’t I said the Spanish lady has done it so the Spanish girl decided to do it not one cake but two so I ask the si Amish girl if the other girl was the mgr she says no I say what’s her name in Spanish and she replies I can’t give names then the other girl says what’s for why do I want to leave a review I said because your monitor behind says so and why didn’t I ask her name because you were with another customer but jumps in my conversation trying to demean me especially after spending $70 on 2 small 7” cakes as I’m walking out she says write what you want, should I go on all three employees not wearing hats or hair nets violation on NYs health department, no gloves handle breads cookies or cakesThink twice about going there and spending money where you are not valued as a customer, I called and left a message for owner to call me to address the disrespectful Athea that works there, I won’t stop now until you get shut down
