For a New Yorker looking for a satisfying, authentic, and affordable bakery experience, Double Crispy Bakery is an excellent choice for several reasons. The primary appeal is, of course, the baked goods themselves. The buns are consistently praised for being soft, well-made, and tasty. Whether you're trying a savory roll filled with pork or chicken, or a classic plain roll, you're getting a product that feels both comforting and high-quality. The egg tarts, both regular and Portuguese style, are a must-try for any pastry lover. They are fresh and flavorful, and as one customer review notes, the fact that locals buy and eat here is the highest compliment a bakery can receive.
Furthermore, the value for your money is outstanding. In a city where a coffee can easily cost more than $5, you can get a glorious coffee with milk for just $1.50 and pair it with a tasty bun for a total that won't break the bank. This affordability, combined with the high quality, makes it a rare find in Manhattan. The simplicity of the place is also a huge part of its charm. It's not trying to be a fancy cafe; it's a bakery that focuses on what it does best: baking. This straightforward approach is refreshing and makes the experience genuine.
Finally, the atmosphere and service make it a genuinely pleasant place to visit. The quiet, modest setting and the kindness of the people who run it and frequent it create a welcoming vibe. It feels like a true neighborhood spot, a place where people know each other and the community is strong. For anyone, whether a local or a visitor, who wants to taste delicious Chinese pastries in a place that feels real and has a soul, Double Crispy Bakery is a standout choice that is more than worth a visit. Just remember to bring cash!

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1If you like sitting among actual Chinese people, this is a good place. The locals buy and eat here, what other compliment does a bakery need. Cash only, and I missed the sign when I ordered a coffee. A man watching the scene asked how much I need and offered to pay for me. This gets extra points for being sweet and kind. Turns out I did have enough change for the coffee with me --$1.50. All sorts of buns, egg custard, white bread, coconut cream buns. Baked right here in the back. Gift boxes ready if you are shopping for a celebration. Juices, smoothies, coffee, teas, bubble tea. One table with seats for eating in. Modest, quiet, the place seems clean and we'll organized. I'm having coffee with milk only and it's surprisingly glorious.
September 19 · Rachel BartlettI'm visiting NYC for holidays and I just found this place, just by luck. I never tried any Chinese pastry before.I simply love it and I can say that it's now my favorite thing !!I came back 3 times during my stay. The buns, are well-made. They are tasty and soft. All of them are so good !!
June 08 · Jeanne COUSTIERDouble crispy is one of the bakeries in the area that I repeatedly go to. For anyone that loves mooncake, double crispy always has mooncake all year round and it's delicious. I get the lotus every time. The egg tarts are good. They have both regular and portuguese style. I would recommend trying the peanut mochi and the Mexican dry pork bun.The inside of the bakery has a couple tables for seating.
April 08 · Jessica YangI went for a few egg tarts, but found them all oddly salty and a bit hard, which is the opposite of what I expected.I also tried the red bean slushie to wash the taste out, but realized it's a bit thick with a fragments of ices. Luckily, it's not too sweet
August 17 · Andrew LamThe macau-style egg custards are sooo delicious. Hongkong-style milk tea is amazing too. Bring CASH because they do cash. But for the price, it is amazing.
