Elysian Cafe Introduce
Introduction / Overview: A Slice of Paris and History in Hoboken
Nestled in the heart of Hoboken, New Jersey, the Elysian Cafe offers local diners an enchanting escape, marrying the charm of a Parisian bistro with a rich, local history that dates back well over a century. More than just a French restaurant, Elysian Cafe holds the distinguished title of being the oldest continually operated bar/restaurant in Hoboken. This deep historical connection makes it a true landmark for residents across New Jersey. The establishment first opened its doors in 1895 as Dillenger & Jeffson's and remarkably navigated the challenging years of Prohibition by transforming into an ice cream parlor and even a hair salon, a testament to its enduring legacy and neighborhood importance. Today, it stands as a beautifully restored 1895 saloon and a beloved dining spot.
The ambiance at Elysian Cafe is a major part of its allure. Customers frequently praise the stunning, European vibes, noting that the charming decor, cozy interior, and romantic atmosphere instantly transport them to Paris. The interior features a magnificent, ornate all-wood bar and elegant, retro-style light fixtures, creating an environment that is simultaneously historic, cozy, and trendy. Diners can expect a welcoming, sophisticated experience whether they are stopping in for a quick bite, a business lunch, or a celebratory dinner. The culinary focus remains on French Bistro style cuisine, delivering classics and comfort dishes with a dedication to quality that has kept the restaurant popular for generations.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Elysian Cafe is beautifully designed and quite cozy with strong European vibes. The cheeseburger is literally one of the best I’ve ever had. Juicy, high quality, perfect. The sirloin steak salad is fresh and healthy and the steak is tender and full of flavor. My son’s lobster salad was so delicious, he ordered a second one.All around, this is a fabulous restaurant with a gorgeous ambiance. Can’t go wrong by eating here. End your meal with a cappuccino.
July 01 · Angela Cooperman-GalperI had dinner here last night and absolutely loved the vibe. It instantly transported me back to Paris, from the charming decor to the cozy, romantic atmosphere. I had been missing the City of Light, and for a few sweet moments, I truly felt like I was back there. The staff was lovely, especially our waitress, who was warm, attentive, and made the evening even more special.I ordered the French onion soup and the roasted chicken, both were delicious. The soup was rich and comforting, with that perfect cheesy top, and the chicken was tender, flavorful, and beautifully presented. It was the perfect late afternoon into early evening meal, calm , delightful, and filled with that understated elegance only a true French-inspired café can offer. Will definitely be coming back. Merci, Elysian! 🇫🇷

August 09 · Carolyn WilliamsThe food is so delicious, the inside is beautiful. The fries are super crispy and amazing. Next time I’m going for dinner!!! I just can’t deal with the bad service from some of the staff. The waitress was in such a mood and not kind at all.
