★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I came here for their lunch deal on a weekday and had a great time. For their lunch deal, which ends at 3pm, you just have to get seated before that time! And, the staff was so sweet and accommodating for my friend who came a bit later. The interior is bright and spacious, and tables are big for you to order lots of food. There are a variety of appetizers included in the AYCE deal (which most places don't do) so that was really nice. We tried their japchae, fish katsu, KFC, calamari, soondubu, and hotteok. We also got a variety of their beefs, which was solid quality and had lots of flavor. It was a shame that they didn't have radish or rice paper when we went, but I enjoyed eating the meat with their salad. Overall, solid AYCE KBBQ deal, and probably one of the more affordable ones in the city!
June 20 · Mia HuynhMy party of five dined at GEN Korean BBQ Manhattan last Friday, and it was truly an amazing experience from start to finish. Even though the restaurant was packed, the service was fast, organized, and professional. Our server Gregory was incredibly attentive and efficient, and Bobby, the manager, made sure everything ran smoothly. The entire staff worked seamlessly and really made us feel welcome. The food came out quickly, hot, and beautifully prepared. The banchan was fresh, the japchae was perfectly seasoned without being oily, and the hotteok pancake was our favorite. It was warm, slightly crisp on the outside, and absolutely delicious. The wagyu premium meat slices were SO SO GOOD, tender, flavorful, and just melted in your mouth. All the menu items we wanted were available, and everything was served promptly. The staff were also quick to change the grill throughout our meal, which made a big difference. We never ended up with burned meats, and everything cooked evenly. Their attention to detail was impressive.Cleanliness was top-notch. The servers looked sharp, kitchen staff wore gloves, plates were cleared quickly, and napkins were always restocked. Even at full capacity, nothing was missed. The location is super convenient, close to multiple subways and bus lines, and there is a Trader Joe’s next door, perfect if you want to grab dessert or run a quick errand after dinner.Whether you are planning a date night, a family gathering, or just a weekend dinner after a long week, GEN Manhattan is the perfect spot. Great food, amazing service, and premium all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ right in the city. I will definitely be returning and recommending this location to everyone I know.
June 08 · Lillian LeeLet’s open the doors to GEN Korean BBQ and get hit instantly with that mouthwatering aroma of sizzling meat. You get two full hours to indulge in this all you can eat restaurant. Let’s make every minute count! The menu is stacked with a wide variety of BBQ meats plus a generous spread of appetizers to keep things interesting between rounds of grilling. Their drink menu is just as fun with plenty of great options. The Capri Soju was served with colorful flashing ice cubes that made it as fun to look at as it was to sip. Staffs here are super friendly and quick making sure you are topped off with anything you want. The best part is you get to enjoy all this quality food without breaking the bank. That’s what I call a solid value for the amount and quality you get. Whether you’re a Korean BBQ regular or just diving in for the first time, GEN is a great spot to feast and vibe.
April 07 · itzelenahoSorry that this is a long review, but there's a lot to cover! After passing by this place many times, I decided to head in myself on a Saturday night (relatively late). There was a bit of a waitlist to get in but it wasn't too bad. It's great that they're open late! Although what I wasn't aware of when I walked in is that late at night only the premium menu is available. So you can get any of the items from the classic menu and the premium add-ons, but the price is higher (usually it seems there's an option to select from just the classic items for a lower price). It was $54 for myself before tax and tip as of 5/3/2025.The atmosphere is really pretty! I really liked the cool blue lighting and the comfortable booths. The room also has wonderful ventilation so I didn’t get much smoke in my face while grilling. The restaurant is also kept cool which was well appreciated when working with the hot grill (although when the grill was off I found it a bit chilly). The service was good enough. I looove that you can cook the food yourself! It's pretty rare to find that option in nyc, especially late at night! My server was respectful and pleasant, which was a plus. The food came out reasonably quickly, and I found that the 2 hour time limit was plenty of time for me to get my fill (and I'm an especially slow eater!). What I did find odd is that I was told my grill top would be changed after having cooked on it for a while, but nobody ever came to change it (the fond on the grill was starting to build up and burn quite a bit). I also only received the premium menu when I sat down, and only got the QR code for the classic menu after deliberately asking for it.As for the food, I got a bunch of meats and one side. I do wish there were some more non-meat options for the grill, like mushrooms or onions, but it's forgivable because meat takes priority in a place like this. Overall it was solid, here are my thoughts on everything I tried:- Wagyu: Thinly sliced and pretty tender. It had good flavor when paired with the dips.- Cajun Shrimp: Tasted fresh and delicious and had the shell and head on. The sauce that came with them was really yummy and went well with the shrimp (and some of the pork lol). Some pieces had the "vein" (intestinal tract) intact, so if that bothers you do keep that in mind (it's safe to eat don’t worry). Would totally recommend if you're willing to peel a bunch of shrimp.- Samgyubsal (pork belly): Crisped up nicely on the grill and had great flavor. Although I will say it was a bit tough to chew.- Hawaiian Bacon: Flavorful, but sliced far too thickly in my opinion. The thick cut made it really difficult to render the fat properly before burning the exterior, resulting in some big chunks of chewy fat after cooking. Maybe I should've cut it into tiny slabs before cooking?- Marinated Short Rib: Bone in. Was able to get a flavorful crust on the grill, but was a little chewy. A good pick.- Teriyaki Pork Chop: Bone in. Definitely my favorite meat of the night! It was just as flavorful as the rest of them but also really tender and juicy. It's a bit leaner (but still had the right amount of fat) so it didn’t need as much time to cook either. Would definitely recommend!- Rice Sticks - Chewy (in a good way) and flavorful. Although I personally wouldn't order them again because rice came complementary.- Pickled sides (complementary) All three of them were great and balanced out the fatty meats really well. The kimchi was a bit less flavorful than I expected. All in all, I thought Gen was a solid spot for Korean BBQ where you can cook it yourself. Considering that there isn't much competition late at night, it's a good pick. That being said, I do think there were a few things they could've done better. If you don't need late night hours, I do think that KPOT offers similar quality for a notably cheaper price (and you can order on the iPad!), although to be fair the wait to get into KPOT can be really long. I would recommend Gen if you're looking to cook your own Korean BBQ late at night.
