## What is Worth Choosing at Giovanni
When dining at Giovanni, you are choosing more than just a meal; you are choosing a piece of Brooklyn culinary history. The menu is a celebration of Southern Italian-American staples, executed with the confidence and care of chefs who have been perfecting these dishes for decades. The loyalty of the staff and the continuity of the recipes are the pillars upon which this restaurant’s reputation is built.
Patrons consistently highlight specific dishes that exemplify the restaurant’s mastery of classic Italian cooking, making these items the absolute must-tries for any New Yorker visiting Giovanni. Foremost among the praised items are the signature appetizers. The Baked Clams are described as the “very best,” an acknowledgment of the perfect combination of tender clams, seasoned breadcrumbs, and a garlic-herb preparation—a quintessential Italian starter. Based on comparable Brooklyn restaurants, an appetizer portion of baked clams typically ranges between $19 and $24, underscoring the restaurant’s commitment to quality at a reasonable value.
Another highly recommended appetizer is the Mozzarella in Carrozza. This classic dish of battered, deep-fried mozzarella is a perfect example of rich, comforting Italian preparation, traditionally served with a side of marinara sauce. The mention of this dish alongside the clams confirms Giovanni’s excellence in preparing traditional antipasti.
The Zuppa di Red Clams is also a standout, a robust dish of clams simmered in a rich, red tomato sauce that is flavorful enough to require an extra piece of fresh bread for dipping. This seafood preparation speaks to the kitchen’s ability to handle fresh ingredients with expertise.
Moving to the main course, the dish that receives the most fervent praise is the Veal Parmigiana. One dedicated customer declared it the “very best veal parm every.” In Brooklyn, a high-quality Veal Parmigiana entree typically costs between $29 and $32, and Giovanni is lauded for delivering this superior experience while maintaining an overall promise of affordable prices. The veal is expected to be tender, perfectly breaded, smothered in a rich tomato sauce, and topped with melted mozzarella, showcasing the kitchen’s expertise in time-honored entrees.
Overall, what is truly worth choosing at Giovanni is the feeling of being part of a long-standing tradition. The staff’s dedication, stemming from their previous experience at Fiorintino's, ensures that the service is professional, friendly, and truly focused on the dining experience. It's a place where you can bring a small group for a celebration and know that the comfort food will be top-tier, the wine will flow, and the experience will evoke the best of classic, beloved Brooklyn Italian dining. The combination of exceptional, heritage-rich food and affordable prices solidifies Giovanni's status as a foundational element of Brooklyn's culinary community.

October 21 · Galyna ShulimovaBest Italian food in all of Brooklyn this menu was at 2 previous restaurant's and has a history of over 50 years. Originally it was Carolinas in Coney Island then Fiorintino's on Ave U. Fiorintino's closed after 30 years due to the fact that owners wanted to retire. A waiter named Charlie from there opened up Giovanni's and hired the chefs as well as a few waiters. And that great tasting good experience lives on. The very best baked clams a zuppa di red clams as well as the mozzarella and correza. Everything on the dinner menu is delicious in my opinion the very best veal parm every. This is truly an Italian experience at affordable prices.
October 20 · Mike CerilloWe eat there at least once every couple of months . Close to home and never a wait . We had the fried calamari. It was delicious . Ordered the eggplant parmigiana. It was a large portion and I had to take it home . My family orders the pork chops and they said it was very tender and the chicken parmigiana was devoured even before I was able to taste it . The owner and the waiters are very attentive and want to make you happy ! So glad this restaurant opened in my neighborhood!
August 13 · Anna Maria ArgenzianoDrove into Brooklyn with our family and some friends to go to L &B Spumoni Gardens, but the wait was atleast an hour. We then googled restaurants near by and we came across Giovanni. We called and they could not get us in. A little while later, my phone rang and it was the manager!! They were able to fit us in!! What great service! The food was INCREDIBLE! The staff was great, very nice and extremely hard working. I ordered the shrimp scampi and it was fantastic. My husband had a seafood special and it was overflowing on the plate. My son had the scampi too, just delicious. The fried calamari appetizer was huge and crispy. We will definitely return again. I highly recommend this restaurant .
December 16 · barbara blankFood wasn't good. I'm not sure where all the good reviews came from. Friend ordered spaghetti and meatballs and the meatballs were dry and tasted odd...almost like soap. Other friend ordered calamari which looked dull and texture was a bit mushy. It came with some clams that had a lot of sand in it. I ordered the grilled seafood (lobster, shrimp, scallops) and they ran out of scallops. They asked if more shrimp was okay or they can give me 2 lobster tails instead of one so I chose that. Lobster tails were alright. But when the bill came, instead of $29 for my dish it was $40. My fault for not paying attention so I already paid and realized after the fact. The second lobster tail was supposed to be a substitute for the scallops and shrimp because I didn't get any of those, just 2 lobster tails. And if their intention was to offer me a different dish of 2 lobster tails, then be upfront and say that it will cost more instead of saying substitute. The staff were all nice but definitely never coming back. We all left dissatisfied.
