Hometown Hotpot & BBQ Introduce
In the heart of New York City's vibrant Chinatown, where the streets buzz with energy and the aromas of countless cuisines fill the air, a unique culinary destination stands out: Hometown Hotpot & BBQ. This restaurant isn't just a place to eat; it's an interactive and communal dining experience that combines two of the most beloved cooking styles in Asian cuisine. For New Yorkers seeking a fun, flavorful, and filling meal, this spot on Grand Street offers a feast for the senses and a great way to gather with friends and family.
Hometown Hotpot & BBQ is a masterful blend of two distinct culinary traditions. Hot pot, a communal meal where diners cook a variety of raw ingredients in a simmering pot of broth at their table, and barbecue, where you grill marinated meats and vegetables to perfection. This duality is the restaurant's main draw, allowing patrons to switch between a comforting, soupy experience and a smoky, savory one, all within the same meal. It's a choose-your-own-adventure approach to dining that caters to every craving and ensures a dynamic and engaging experience from start to finish.
The concept of all-you-can-eat is a major highlight, a feature that appeals directly to the New York diner looking for both value and variety. This format encourages exploration, allowing you to sample a vast array of ingredients without the pressure of choosing just one dish. The menu is a testament to this abundance, with an extensive list of options ranging from different cuts of meat to a diverse selection of fresh vegetables, noodles, and seafood. This ensures that whether you're a seasoned hot pot enthusiast or a newcomer to the experience, you'll find something to love.
The atmosphere at Hometown Hotpot & BBQ is as much a part of the experience as the food itself. It’s casual and cozy, yet with a trendy, bustling energy that is perfect for a lively meal. As one of the reviews mentions, it’s a full house and can be on the loud side, but that’s often the sign of a popular, successful spot in a city like New York. The noise is not a distraction; it's the soundtrack to a good time, filled with the chatter of college students, large groups, and tourists all sharing in the joy of cooking and eating together. The restaurant’s decor, inspired by Penang, Malaysia, with its exposed brick and wall art, adds to the inviting and authentic feel of the space.
This restaurant’s approach to dining is a perfect fit for the New York lifestyle. It's a place where you can unwind after a long day, enjoy a late-night meal with friends, or celebrate a special occasion. The all-you-can-eat model, combined with the variety of offerings and the communal nature of hot pot and barbecue, makes it a destination for memorable gatherings. The fact that it accepts reservations, though with a usual wait, is a testament to its popularity and a good piece of advice for anyone planning a visit, especially with a group.
The thoughtful details, like the "amazing" sauce station with over 20 options and the wide selection of soup bases, show a genuine commitment to the craft. A good hot pot and barbecue experience is all about customization and flavor, and Hometown Hotpot & BBQ empowers its diners to be the creators of their own perfect meal. The variety of broths, from Original Plain Chicken Broth to Spicy Ma La and Kimchi, means every visit can be a new and exciting culinary adventure.
Hometown Hotpot & BBQ is conveniently located at 194 Grand Street, in the heart of Chinatown, New York. This vibrant neighborhood is a central and easily accessible part of downtown Manhattan. The restaurant's location is well-served by public transportation, with several subway lines and bus routes stopping nearby. The Grand Street station on the B and D lines is just a short walk away, as are the Canal Street stations serving the J, N, Q, R, W, Z, 4, and 6 lines. This makes it a convenient dining destination for people coming from different boroughs and neighborhoods.
For those who choose to drive, the provided information notes that both a free parking lot and paid street parking are available. While free parking in downtown Manhattan is a significant perk, it's worth noting that it can be limited, especially during peak hours. Paid street parking is a more reliable, though often competitive, option. Given the "usually a wait" highlight, it's a good idea for drivers to factor in some extra time to secure a spot. The wheelchair accessibility, including the entrance and seating, is also a great feature, ensuring that the restaurant can accommodate a wider range of patrons.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My favorite hot pot place in nyc. Plus the birthday deal is so worth it as long as you come in within 3 days of it and bring 4 people you can eat for free. Sauce station is amazing, and so are the soup bases, which I loved that as a vegetarian I had so many options. I got curry and was very satisfied with all the different veggies i was able to try along with types of tofu and noodles. Love this spot and service is very quick and friendly!
July 31 · Prerana DewanThere was a bit of a wait and although it was my first time there, I get the sense that there’s always a wait and with that service may be a hit or a miss. Our server though was great and very helpful. The food was great, but hotpot is one of my favorite dishes so I may be biased but I truly enjoyed it. We chose just the hotpot but there’s an option to do both hotpot and barbecue. It was a full house and kind of on the loud side but we were still able to talk albeit louder than usual. Overall, a great food experience and I’ll definitely go back.!
June 25 · ChristabellaHometown Hotpot & BBQ is an absolute gem! Whether you’re in the mood for flavorful hotpot, sizzling BBQ, or both, this place delivers an amazing dining experience. The variety of broth options, fresh ingredients, and high-quality meats make every visit a treat. The service is fast and friendly, and the staff is always happy to help with recommendations or refills. The all-you-can-eat option is well worth it, especially for the price. Plus, the atmosphere is lively and great for groups. If you love interactive dining with bold flavors, this is a must-visit spot. Can’t wait to come back!
March 07 · Dane Fenner (FLH)Satisfying all you can eat. Soo many option you can choose from. though I think its pretty big for each options. Smaller portion each would be great so we can order more variety.
May 25 · GaluhI found myself in Hometown Hotpot, a couple bottles of soju deep, contemplating life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness on the last night of our work retreat.37 of us were in here at 9pm, talking about work related stuff which is the last thing I want to do on a Thursday night. I'm working so hard so I never have to go on LinkedIn or talk about frameworks again. It was my first time having Korean hotpot, and it was honestly such a cool experience. You order the broth you want (I got kimchi), and they put it on the little stove in front of you. As the raw meat and fixings come in, you dip it in your pot quickly to cook before consuming. I loved it. I ate so much.A lot of the other employees were complaining about it and how it was messy and hard to eat, but I always love getting a little culture and learning how other people eat food. It's always cool to me idk. That's the stuff I live for.Life gets tough sometimes, but Korean Hotpot and some soju can help take the edge off.IG @jnov_Tiktok @jnov__
