---When you visit Phở Bằng, the star of the show is, of course, the pho. The "Rice Noodle Beef Soup" section of the menu offers a variety of combinations, allowing you to customize your bowl with different cuts of meat. The broth is the heart of any pho, and at Phở Bằng, it's known to be a flavorful and comforting base for a hearty meal. For those looking for a different kind of noodle experience, the "Rice Vermicelli" dishes are a fantastic choice, particularly the "Bun Thit Heo Nuong" with its savory grilled pork. Another fan favorite is the "Com Suon Nuong," a classic grilled pork chop rice dish that is both simple and deeply satisfying.
Beyond the main dishes, the restaurant's "Appetizer" menu has some notable items. The "Goi Cuon" (summer rolls) are a refreshing start, filled with fresh vegetables, herbs, and protein. But one item that receives particular praise is the "Banh Mi Hoac Com Bo Kho" which is a savory beef stew served with a baguette or rice. The "Banh Mi Cary Ga" is also a great choice, with the perfect balance of soft bread and flavorful curry chicken.
Phở Bằng also stands out for its beverages, particularly its Vietnamese coffee. Both the "Ca Phe Den Da" (iced black coffee) and "Ca Phe Sua Da" (iced coffee with condensed milk) are a must-try. The experience of properly mixing and pouring the coffee adds to the authenticity and enjoyment of the meal. The "Che Ba Mau," a tri-color bean dessert, is also a popular way to end a satisfying meal. While some may argue about the flavor, many others return time and again for the huge portions and satisfying taste, a testament to the fact that Phở Bằng offers a dependable and hearty meal that truly feels like a taste of home. Its overall value, combined with the family-run charm, makes it a place worth rooting for and supporting in the heart of New York City.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Yes, this spot has a C rating, but honestly every time my friend and I have come, we’ve never seen any bugs—and let’s be real, it’s the LES, so that’s not uncommon anywhere. We’re definitely going to keep coming back. The food is amazing! My friend and I are obsessed with the pho, and I personally love the pork banh mi—the baguette is perfect: soft enough that it doesn’t scrape the roof of your mouth like others do. I recently tried the iced coffee, and our server was so kind in showing us how to properly mix and pour it, which made the experience even better. We also really love the origin story behind this restaurant and supporting family-run businesses, which makes us want to root for them even more. Ending our meal with a pot of tea has become a little tradition, and we always finish every last drop. We truly hope this place continues to improve and thrive because we want to keep bringing all our friends here!
August 20 · Zoe OThe food isn’t anything to rave about. It’s decent at best. Or maybe I just came on the wrong day. It was a Sunday afternoon with not many patrons. As we entered we were greeted promptly and seated . They do need to work on training their staff instead of yelling and demanding the waitress. We found that pretty rude. The waitress was nice. The food came out on time. The summer rolls were okay. The pork in the summer rolls tasted a bit odd. The shrimp in the summer rolls were good. Also ordered the vermicelli noodles with grilled pork. It’s what I usually get at Vietnamese restaurants. Wasn’t blown away by the taste. The portion sizes on all dishes were great. But the flavor lacked on all the dishes. What disappointed the most were the fried spring rolls. They tasted super stale. My girlfriend got a seafood soup dish with noodles that she seems to enjoy, but she did mention the broth was pretty bland.Overall we had a decent experience. Nothing to rave about. We left with full tummies , but disappointed in the lack of flavors in the dishes.Staff was nice (except for the management yelling at the waitress in front of patrons) , interior is what’s expected for a hole in the wall.Probably wouldn’t come back here with there being much better options in the area.
September 01 · Dwight KennethIt's been several years since I've been back and after today, might be several more (if ever). Sorry, the food was just very underwhelming... Pho broth was bland; the spring rolls were also tasteless with the skin too thick. Waitress was nice and attentive, as was the older gentlemen. Place was pretty empty at lunch time, which should mostly tell you everything you need to know. Too many options in the area, I wish them luck...
March 11 · S. ChanDefinition of comfort food. Generous portions — finally a decent amount of rice in the city. Array of table sauces to season your food as you like. Can be a touch salty but it’s wasn’t to the point that it was inedible. Atmosphere is homey and nostalgic for any South East Asian. Went back for a second time less that a week later. I look forward to trying the whole menu.
June 06 · N SDecent spot! Sweet staff and fast service. Would recommend the steak banh mi with a side of pho… hit the spot on this autumn day. Summer rolls were huge. Dipping sauce was not as flavorful as other ones I’ve had!
