When reviewing the menu at Khalil Biryani House, the abundance of rich, flavorful choices can be overwhelming. As a specialty restaurant, your journey should definitely start with one of their famous rice dishes.
The ultimate must-try is, without a doubt, the Biryani itself. The Special Goat Biryani ($9.99) or the Beef Biryani ($11.99) are excellent representations of the restaurant's foundational cuisine, cooked with tender meat and aromatic spices. For those seeking a unique flavor experience, the Khalil Special Biden Biryani is highly recommended—it offers a less aggressively spiced profile, perfect for an introduction to the genre or for those who prefer subtler complexity.
Another popular choice is the Special Beef Tehari ($8.99). Tehari is a more focused, often spicier, Bangladeshi dish where the meat is cooked directly with the rice, resulting in a rich, beefy flavor that permeates every grain. This is a must for true enthusiasts of the region's culinary style.
Beyond the biryanis, the Curry section offers classic comforting dishes. The Goat Curry ($11.99) and Butter Chicken ($10.99) are both solid choices, and they pair perfectly with a fresh, hot piece of Garlic Naan ($3.99) or a simple Paratha ($1.99) from the bakery section.
For a quick, satisfying bite, their Appetizers are popular and affordably priced, with items like the Chicken Samosa ($1.00) and Beef Patties ($1.50) being excellent choices for a fast snack or to start your meal. And for those seeking vegetarian options, the Saag Paneer ($11.99) is a well-loved choice, offering creamy spinach cooked with fresh cheese.
Whether you dine in the cozy atmosphere, grab a quick takeout order, or book their catering service for your next big event, Khalil Biryani House provides a true taste of Bangladeshi heritage in the heart of the Bronx.
While Khalil Biryani House is celebrated by many for its flavorful food and authentic experience—with customers praising the amazing taste, generous portions, and good value—it's worth noting that, like any busy NYC establishment, there can be variability in customer experience. Some online feedback has noted occasional issues with order accuracy and delivery/pickup coordination. The quality of the food itself, however, is frequently highlighted by happy customers as being delicious, well-seasoned, and exactly what they were hoping for in a local Bangladeshi eatery. Whether you're a long-time fan of Desi cuisine or just curious to try a new flavor, Khalil Biryani House offers a memorable culinary experience in the New York area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Worst Briyani I had so far in the US. Food was smelly and arrived very late. Waiter was very unprofessional. Tables were not cleaned and cost wise very expensive compared to other places in JH.
September 07 · Kazi MukitulI cant believe this!! Looks like they gave someone’s leftover biriyani in my parcel. This is disgusting. Im utterly disappointed. I will make sure to complain to nyc food safety corp. how could they do this ? This used to be one of my favorite restaurant. But i lost my words today! 👎👎👎
August 27 · Fatema PoushiTERRIBLE!!!!!!!! First off I was waiting in line patiently, that took a while and I was the second person in line. I finally got to the counter and asked if she had a menu but she said no, and as i proceed to ask her a question she walks away and attends to Bangali people. They checked out. I then said excuse me to a guy and said if i can have chicken tikka masala and rice. I asked for a medium, mind you its super super tiny, then before he starts putting it the same lady who ignored me started to speak to him in their language, and then hes going to charge me 20 dollars. i said what 20??? He said yes, and i said no thank you, then hes going to say 15. Excuse me?? Your food looks dry anyway. They dont like people unless you’re from their country. (this doesnt apply to all of them of course) but majority. This place sucks. Their attitude sucks. Be careful, your best bet is to buy from somewhere else. Disgusting behavior. They have a B rating anyway. Closer to them theres a Bangali spot with an A rating and better quality food.
September 24 · Steph SmithThe best Biryani place in New York City! Especially Khalil’s Special Biryani and Beef Tehri—both are absolutely delicious. The staff here are incredibly kind and attentive to their customers. I especially want to mention Shaikot—he’s a really great guy! He always goes out of his way to help me with whatever I need and ensures I get the best experience. I truly appreciate it!
February 24 · Saifullah ShadReview of Khalil Biryani House – Bronx, NY⭐️ Rating: 2.5/5As a regular customer who has been visiting Khalil Biryani House on Starling Avenue for quite some time, I feel it’s finally time to share a full and honest review of this popular Bangladeshi eatery in the Bronx. The Food:Let’s start with what brings people here in the first place — the food. Khalil Biryani House offers a wide variety of Bengali dishes that are nostalgic and comforting, especially for those of us who miss the taste of home. Among all the items, their Beef Teheri stands out as a personal favorite. The rice is usually soft, flavorful, and well-cooked, and the beef — when you get a good piece — is tender and seasoned nicely. However, there’s a serious issue with portion quality: the amount of actual meat served is shockingly low. A significant portion (around 20% or more) of the container is filled with bare bones — not meat-on-the-bone, just bones. This feels careless and frankly disrespectful to paying customers. When you order beef teheri, you expect beef — not a pile of bone fragments that don’t add any value to the meal.Another concerning practice is the way food is handled. Based on multiple visits, it’s apparent that leftover food from the previous day is refrigerated and served the next morning. While this might be common in many small eateries, it becomes a real issue when freshness is compromised, especially with fried items or dishes that don’t reheat well. This may also explain why some items taste dry or stale early in the day.The Environment:The dine-in experience leaves much to be desired. The ventilation is poor, and the dining area often feels stuffy and cramped. On top of that, many older men seem to linger for hours over a single cup of tea, occupying seats and creating an atmosphere that’s not welcoming or comfortable for families. This lack of table turnover makes it hard to find a clean, open spot if you’re coming in with guests or children.Service:The service is hit or miss. Some staff are friendly and helpful, while others seem disinterested or rushed. There’s minimal effort to make the customer feel valued, and there’s almost no attention given to presentation or hospitality.Final Thoughts:Khalil Biryani House has the potential to be an excellent neighborhood staple — it already has the recipes, the flavors, and the Bengali identity that draws in the community. But cutting corners on food quality, ignoring customer comfort, and not reinvesting in service or ambiance are the main reasons it’s stuck at 3.3 stars — and in my opinion, even that feels generous. If you’re ordering for takeout and know exactly what to get (and when), you might have a decent experience. But if you’re expecting fresh, consistent quality and a comfortable dine-in setting, be prepared to be disappointed.Pros:• Authentic Bengali flavors• Affordable pricing• Good beef teheri when freshCons:• Reheated food from previous day• Excessive bones in meat dishes• Poor ventilation and cramped seating• Not family-friendly• Inconsistent serviceRecommendation: Only visit for takeout and stick to specific items like beef teheri — but check your portion before leaving
