Las Carnitas Introduce
For New Yorkers who have seen countless restaurants come and go, discovering a place that feels truly authentic is a rare and special find. Las Carnitas in Brooklyn is one of those places. This isn’t a restaurant trying to fit a trend; it's a genuine, no-frills establishment that has earned its reputation by simply being great at what it does. Specializing as a taco restaurant, Las Carnitas has become a beacon for those in search of real, honest-to-goodness Mexican food. It’s the kind of spot that a lifelong Bushwick resident, as one reviewer noted, has been waiting for "for many, many years." The atmosphere is described as "simple, warm, and real," making it the perfect backdrop for a casual lunch, a satisfying dinner, or a quick bite with friends. Unlike many of its counterparts, Las Carnitas feels like it's built for the community, a place where the food speaks for itself and the experience is all about enjoying every delicious moment. This focus on authenticity and quality has cemented its place as a cherished neighborhood staple, attracting a loyal following who appreciate its straightforward approach and phenomenal flavors. The menu at Las Carnitas, while concise, is a powerful statement of its culinary prowess. The star of the show is, of course, the tacos, with a focused selection that ensures every option is perfected. The "Carnitas" tacos, priced at $5.00, are a must-try, famously described by a customer as "like eating carnitas-flavored butter," an experience so good it led them to inhale six tacos in one sitting. Beyond the carnitas, the menu also features other taco favorites like "Pastor" and the increasingly popular "Quesabirria," offering a variety of flavors for every palate. The Quesabirria, at $6.00, is a richer, heartier option that comes with a side of consome, perfect for dipping. To complement the tacos, Las Carnitas offers classic sides like "Guac" ($5.00) and "Chips" ($2.00), as well as "Consome" ($7.00) on its own. For those with a big appetite, the "Birria Combo" for $20.00 provides a complete and satisfying meal. The bar onsite also serves a variety of beverages, including "Alcohol, Beer, and Cocktails," allowing customers to pair their food with the perfect drink. One review highlighted the exceptional service and craftsmanship of the bar, with a special shout-out to Enrique for his "top notch service" and for crafting an "incredible specialty cocktail" right in front of the customer. This attention to detail, both in the kitchen and behind the bar, is a key reason why Las Carnitas has garnered such rave reviews and a devoted following. The simple yet high-quality menu proves that sometimes, less is more, especially when every item is executed with such passion and expertise.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I grew up in Bushwick. For decades, I watched Mexican restaurants come and go; some were forgettable, some were cute but flavorless, and some felt like they were built more for a trend piece than for the people who actually live here. But Las Carnitas? This place is different. It doesn’t feel like it’s trying to be anything. It just is.Let’s talk about the food.I had two costilla tacos and six…yes, six cuerito tacos. Madre mía. It was like eating carnitas-flavored butter. I wasn’t chewing. I was inhaling. My hands still smell like carnitas as I’m typing this and I’m not even mad lolzMy mom came with me. She’s not easy to impress, but after a few bites, she looked up. That was it.That’s basically a standing ovation. The space is simple, warm, and real. The staff is kind. The AC was blasting like it knew we needed to recover between tacos.I’ve had Mexican food all over the country: Texas, Arizona, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Illinois, California (which has the worst Mexican food I’ve ever had) and I came to believe the best Mexican food in the country is here in NYC.Places like Las Carnitas are the reason why.Close second? Washington State. (Go Seahawks.) anyways… lolIf I have a heart attack later after devouring eight tacos at once, lolz just know I died happy.Knowing Bushwick, my hometown, finally, FINALLY has the best taco in the country. 🥹💜🥹💜🥹Las Carnitas is the kind of spot we’ve been waiting for… for many, many years.
July 26 · Lucy GomezRequest Enrique at the bar! He provided top notch service and crafted an incredible specialty cocktail right in front of me. His attention to detail and expertise elevated the entire experience. If you're looking for exceptional service and a truly memorable drink, ask for Enrique and you won't be disappointed!
September 04 · omar perezVery Authentic. Prices are great. Portions are very good. I recommend to try Surtido and buche. Also the Costilla is fire. The tortilla is always a problem in Mexican restaurants but not here. Im very happy this place opened.
March 24 · Oscár OAAmazing prices and such fresh food, the carnitas taco melted in my mouth. We tried 2 different quesadillas too. I’ve walked by so many times I’m glad I finally stopped in. Can’t wait to come back for happy hour $8 margs and to try more food!
August 29 · Aisling DalyBushwick’s newest taco spot, Carnitas, from the team behind Taqueria Al Pastor, is already making a name for itselt. We stopped by and ordered 3x tacos: Al Pastor, Carnitas, and Birria. At $5 a taco, it’s right in line with 2025 NYC pricing, and for the quality, it felt fair. The Birria taco came wrapped in two tortillas—outer one nicely crisped on the griddle—and served with pickled onions on the side (a thoughtful touch). The meat was juicy and well-balanced.The Carnitas were also solid. They weren’t overly salty like at some places, and the meat tasted clean and fresh—a big win in our book. But the standout was hands-down the Al Pastor. The fresh cilantro and sweet pineapple were perfect together. We’re not sure if the pineapple was fresh or canned, but honestly, it didn’t matter—it was the BOMB!. The contrast of savory pork and sweet fruit hit the mark, making it the one we’d come back for again and again.Overall, Carnitas is a strong addition to the neighborhood. Not the absolute best tacos we’ve ever had, but fresh ingredients, great execution, and that Al Pastor? Worth the trip.✔️ Would return.🌮 Recommended: Al Pastor Taco⭐ 4/5 Stars
May 26 · Dwight KennethIf you like soggy, bland and cold food this is for you. This was the nastiest tacos in my life so far. Tortillas soggy for excess of oil, meat cold not even room temperature and bland like eating paper. Not recommended at all at all!
