Lilia Introduce
New York City’s dining landscape is vast, but only a handful of establishments achieve truly iconic status, and among them is Lilia. Nestled in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Lilia is more than just an **Italian restaurant**; it is a culinary institution celebrated for elevating the craft of simple, soulful cooking to an art form. Run by the celebrated, James Beard Award-winning Chef Missy Robbins, Lilia brings the highest form of Italian tradition—particularly its dedication to fresh, handcrafted **Pasta**—to the local New York community.
Housed within a beautifully renovated former auto body shop, the venue itself strikes a perfect balance: an airy, high-ceilinged space where casual warmth meets **Upscale** refinement. The ambiance is immediately welcoming, striking that sought-after chord between **Cozy** and **Trendy**. The focus here is on high-quality ingredients, regional Italian inspiration, and the transformative magic of cooking over wood fire. This approach is evident from the first bite of the crackling **Leek Focaccia** served with a deeply flavorful green garlic butter, all the way through to the exquisite, melt-in-your-mouth **Sheep's Milk Cheese Filled Agnolotti**.
Lilia operates with a dual identity to serve the neighborhood throughout the day. While its famous main offerings center on **Dinner** and a dedicated **Lunch** service featuring inventive sandwiches and salads, the venue also functions as a Caffe during the daytime hours. This includes offerings of fine **Pastry**, **Breakfast** dishes like the **Egg Sandwich** with Mortadella, and superb **Great coffee**. However, it is the coveted evening service that draws **Groups** and **Tourists** alike, demanding foresight—this is a restaurant where **Reservations required** is a friendly, but firm, local truth.

The restaurant prioritizes comfort and access for all guests. It features a **Wheelchair accessible entrance**, a dedicated **Wheelchair accessible restroom**, and **Wheelchair accessible seating**. ## What Is Worth Choosing
Simply put, Lilia is worth choosing because it delivers a level of Italian dining—particularly in the realm of fresh, handmade **Pasta**—that is almost without equal in New York City. Guests consistently return, knowing they are guaranteed a dining experience characterized by precision, warmth, and flavor that can, in the words of a real customer, "ruin you for all others."
The culinary journey begins with the little details. The **Leek Focaccia** is crackling and warm, elevated by its pairing with the signature green garlic butter. For starters, the **Grilled Artichoke** with garlic, orange, and Parmigiano is a standout, and the selection of small seafood dishes (**Piccoli Pesci**) is a perfect testament to the wood-fired focus.
However, the heart of Lilia is its **Primi** (Pasta) menu. The Mafaldini with Pink Peppercorn and Parmigiano is often cited as a must-have, lauded for its perfect *al dente* texture and the subtle, peppery goodness of the sauce. Equally divine is the Sheep's Milk Cheese Filled Agnolotti, a delicate, sweet, and savory pillow that "melts on your tongue," perfectly showcasing the chef's expertise. These dishes are not merely food; they are an experience in texture and nuanced flavor, presented with **elegant plating** in a sophisticated, **Romantic** setting.
To complement the cuisine, the **Great cocktails** are expertly mixed, and the extensive **Great wine list**, with its deep focus on Italian regions, provides the perfect pairing for any dish. Ending the meal with the celebrated **Olive Oil Cake** or the honey-olive oil soft serve gelato provides the final, exceptional balance of sweet and savory. While the experience is undeniably **Upscale** and may require planning (**Reservations required**), the seamless blend of professional service, lively energy, and world-class, authentic Italian cooking makes Lilia an unmissable destination for any serious New York diner.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Pasta in its highest form. The airy, high-ceilinged space has great energy, where casual warmth meets fine-dining poise. Soft lighting, elegant plating, professional service. The focaccia, crackling and warm, arrives with a deeply flavorful and memorable green garlic butter. From there, the little gem salad is refreshingly tart, sharp with vinaigrette and pecorino, while the celery root is earthy and bright, delivering a citrusy lift. To round out the starters, the prosciutto arrives silky and delicate, paired with a balsamic mustard. The pasta. It’s why you’re here, and it’s why you’ll return. The agnolotti, filled with sheep’s milk cheese, saffron-tinged and honey-kissed, kind of melts on your tongue. The caramelized onion ravioli vanishes almost too quickly, a testament to the exquisite taste of the brown butter and balsamic. The mafaldini is all about texture, its wavy ribbons clinging to pink peppercorn and parmigiano, delivering peppery goodness. The soft serve honey-olive oil gelato is the right balance of sweet and savory, while the olive oil cake is moist and tender. Both are exceptional in their own way. The quiet confidence, the genuine hospitality—Lilia is magnificent. It's the kind of restaurant that ruins you for all others.
April 18 · yousefDid early Friday dinner with our 2.5 year old daughter and had a great time ordering a bunch of pastas. Large outside seating area to enjoy nice weather and staff was great
September 08 · A BoothReservations months in advance at this local hot spot. Food is great and priced as such. Pizzas, pastas, lambs, chicken, but don't overlook the bread, it's fantastic. Food at that price point deserves a 4.5 but not 5 stars. Service and the atmosphere were both on point. Never skip dessert!
June 01 · Michael NathanSuch a friendly staff and a beautiful space—busy but not overly loud, which made for a comfortable dining experience. We didn’t realize both the ramp butter and chicken liver dishes came with huge pieces of bread. It would’ve been helpful if our server had mentioned that so we could’ve balanced our order a bit better.I usually love chicken liver, but the plating here—with a greenish-brown piping—was visually unappetizing and made it hard to enjoy. The pastas were nicely cooked, but I didn’t love the texture of the mafaldine with peppercorns—it had a gritty bite that was distracting. That said, the Italian Job gelato was absolutely life-changing. I came in with low expectations because, well, it’s just gelato—but it completely blew me away. Easily one of the best bites I’ve had all year. I’d come back just for that and to explore more of the menu. Definitely worth trying if you’re curious about the hype.
June 07 · Sarah HuiGreat food and service in a very casual but eclectic setting. There were a couple misses for us but overall absolutely delicious fresh food and we will definitely return. Mozz and bread is a large portion but absolutely worth trying. Cheese was soft and flavorful and bread was thick and crusty. Little gem salad as pretty to look at as it was to eat. Grilled artichoke, I probably could have eaten 5. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Bagna Cauda was a miss for us. The anchovy dip was overpowering and I think I just didn’t understand the dish. We tried the agnolotti based on our server’s recommendation and so glad we did. Soft creamy pillows of deliciousness. Spaghetti also delicious, pasta was al dente with texture from the nuts. Escarole was another recommended dish and it was very good and a nice side. The lamb steak was our other miss. It was cooked well but if I didn’t know I was eating lamb I would have thought it was a bland steak. It had no gamey lamb flavor. We didn’t know but will try next time that there is an off the menu steak and potato dish you can order. It looked and smelled amazing. This restaurant serves unpretentious delicious food, can’t wait to return and try more options.
