What is Worth Choosing
When you visit Lunatics Ice Cream, the clear winners on the menu are the items that embody the essence of Coney Island fun and boardwalk indulgence. New Yorkers visiting this spot should focus on the deep-fried desserts that give the shop its unique appeal, rather than typical ice cream parlor fare.
The absolute top choices, highlighted by customer satisfaction and the shop's specialty, are the Fried Oreos and the Funnel Cake. The Fried Oreos, described as "crunchy Oreo cookies coated in a sweet batter, deep-fried to a golden brown," are the quintessential boardwalk snack—a must-try indulgence for any dessert lover. The Funnel Cake, a "sweet, crispy, and powdered with sugar, a classic fair treat," is a generous and shareable option that perfectly evokes the carnival spirit.
Other highly recommended indulgences include the Fried Twinkies (4 pcs), offering a sweet and creamy center within a crispy shell. For those who prefer a classic cold dessert, the shop features soft serve in popular flavors, and the variety of Hershey’s ice cream flavors is a reliable choice for a traditional scoop. While some reviews have noted issues with consistency in specialty drinks like boba, the shop’s core offerings—the classic, fried fair favorites, and the traditional ice creams—are consistently what visitors seek out and enjoy. Lunatics Ice Cream offers an authentic, affordable, and incredibly satisfying slice of Coney Island fun, making it the perfect choice for a sweet memory by the Brooklyn beach.

May 03 · Aleh RanchynskiThis is my first time ever writing a Google review this place wasn’t the best to be honest. The boba was chunky and a weird texture and they were chunks of strawberry flavored powder in my drink.I don’t know what it was, but it did not taste like Boba.
September 27 · Adriana -We had a very bad experience at this shop near Coney Island. The store was extremely hot and poorly lit. We ordered 2 single scoop cups, but one came with 3 scoops and we were charged nearly $10 — far more than expected. When we questioned it, the man behind the counter (likely the owner) said one was for a child and the other for a “big man,” so it needed 3 scoops. We never ordered that. He smirked, ignored us, and charged the card without consent. As we were leaving, he muttered something that sounded like a racial slur, which was extremely offensive. When we asked about ingredients due to my child’s egg allergy, he gave a vague response like “it’s just cream” without checking. No allergy signage was visible. We felt scammed, ignored, and disrespected. Completely unacceptable behavior in a family-friendly tourist area.
August 03 · MaddieTypical Carnival treats from Ice Cream to Fried Oreos. Right across from the subway and a couple of blocks off the beach, it’s conveniently located.
April 20 · David RyanI had my first experience trying fried oreos here, and I was surprised at how awesome they were. They are made to order right in front of you, and when you take your first bite, they had a slight crisp on the outside, and the inside was super soft and delicious. You get four for $7, which isn't too bad. The prices overall here are pretty reasonable, even though they only sell ice cream, funnel cakes, fried oreos, cotton candy, candy apples, and popcorn. The staff is very helpful and the store is small and very clean. I will definitely stop in again to get more fried oreos, and I have to try the funnel cake that everyone is raving about.
