Marathon Hong Kong Diner Introduce
### Your New Go-To for a Taste of Hong Kong
In the vibrant and ever-evolving food scene of New York City, certain places stand out not for their extravagant ambiance, but for the sheer quality and authenticity of their food. Marathon Hong Kong Diner is one such place. Tucked inside a food hall in Long Island City, this eatery brings the soul of a traditional "cha chaan teng" to Queens. A cha chaan teng, or "tea restaurant," is a type of diner-style establishment popular in Hong Kong that serves a unique fusion of Chinese and Western dishes. Marathon Hong Kong Diner captures this essence perfectly, offering a menu that is both comforting and exciting, making it a beloved spot for those seeking a taste of home or a new culinary adventure.
The diner has quickly become a local favorite due to its dedication to freshly made food and high-quality ingredients. Unlike its larger counterpart in Great Neck, this location offers a more focused, fast-casual concept, but without sacrificing any of the flavor or care. From the moment you bite into a crispy pork cutlet to the first sip of a silky Hong Kong-style milk tea, it’s clear that everything is made with care and a genuine passion for the cuisine. The friendly staff and laid-back atmosphere create a welcoming environment for a wide range of customers, from solo diners to families looking for a satisfying meal. It is a place that feels familiar and new all at once, providing a much-needed dose of comfort food in the heart of the city.
### Location and Accessibility
Marathon Hong Kong Diner is located at 27-17 42nd Rd, Long Island City, NY 11101. Its placement within a food hall is a significant advantage, as it provides a convenient and central location for both locals and visitors. This setup makes it an excellent choice for a quick meal, as you can easily find a seat and enjoy your food without the formality of a full-service restaurant. The Long Island City neighborhood is highly accessible, with several major subway lines serving the area, including the 7, E, M, and G trains. These transit options make Marathon Hong Kong Diner easy to reach from Manhattan, Brooklyn, or other parts of Queens, allowing a broad range of New Yorkers to enjoy its offerings.
For those who drive, the restaurant's location offers a mix of free street parking and paid parking garages nearby, providing flexible options. A key feature of this location is its commitment to accessibility. The diner has a wheelchair-accessible entrance, restroom, and seating, ensuring that it can comfortably accommodate all guests. While the space can be crowded on weekends, a common reality for popular spots in NYC, the restaurant's location within a larger food hall provides flexibility. Customers can choose to take their food to go and enjoy it at one of the many scenic spots in Long Island City, thanks to the restaurant's unique insulated bags with their own mascot design. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Absolutely loved everything we ordered! The pineapple bun fish burger was next-level — crispy, flaky fish with a perfectly golden crust, all tucked inside that soft, slightly sweet bun. Such a unique and delicious combo! The beef over rice was equally impressive — tender, flavorful, and so comforting. The staff there are so helpful and nice too! You can tell everything is made with care. Can’t wait to come back and try more!
August 01 · A CA taste of home away from home! Marathon’s second location is a fast-casual concept stall situated within a food hall in LIC. The menu is reasonably smaller than their Great Neck restaurant in Queens. The flagship baked tomato pork cutlet rice dish was freshly made with clean ingredients. The cutlet was perfectly crisp — Japanese style — covered with tomato sauce. I think the sauce portion can be a little bit more generous for mixing with rice, but perhaps the team didn’t want to make the cutlet batter to become all soggy!I also ordered the red bean iced drink and was exactly what I expected: a sweet and creamy drink to top off a hearty meal!I took a star off for the atmosphere because the venue was super crowded during weekends and can be chaotic trying to find a seat. But the folks at Marathon have made these really cute insulated bags with their own mascot design so you can easily take the food and eat it elsewhere in LIC. 💜💜I heard good things about their toast so will definitely be back!!
August 02 · Natalie LungAbsolutely delicious! This diner is conveniently located in LIC. I tried the pork cutlet and it was hands-down one of the best I’ve ever had—perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside, and packed with flavor in every bite. You can tell they use fresh, quality ingredients and put real care into their cooking. Even more so they are generous on the portion. The owner & staffs were warm and welcoming, making the whole experience even better. If you’re anywhere near here, do yourself a favor and stop by—you won’t be disappointed!
August 09 · Stanley LiuTried the new food hall in Long Island City and stopped by the Hong Kong café near the entrance. I got the Hong Kong milk tea and French toast. Everything was so good! The Hong Kong style milk tea was very smooth and not too strong, really easy to drink. The French toast was stuffed with peanut butter and topped with condensed milk - super rich and delicious. Definitely recommend checking it out!
August 21 · S. B.Location is super convenient. It’s right the entrance of the food hall. Lovely HK food. We got the pork cutlet and fish burger. Both were moist and crunchy. Would recommend
