The New York City brunch scene is incredibly diverse, but few places offer the specific combination of food, music, and atmosphere that Melanin & Mimosas provides. It operates on a unique model, often functioning as a day party that serves brunch, with a focus on a prix-fixe menu that includes bottomless mimosas or bellinis. The reviews from real customers highlight that while the food itself may be hit-or-miss for some, the overall experience, especially the music and party atmosphere, is what draws people in. This guide is crafted to give you a factual look into the business, helping you manage your expectations and understand its appeal from the perspective of a local user. We will explore the specific details of its location and accessibility and break down its offerings to help you decide if it's the right fit for your next weekend outing.
It is important to note that the experience here is centered on the lively atmosphere and the social aspect of a day party, often with a two-hour seating limit. This is a crucial piece of information for anyone planning a visit, as it sets it apart from a more traditional, relaxed brunch setting. The positive reviews consistently mention the great music and overall fun vibe, while the critical ones often touch on food quality and the sense of being rushed. By presenting a balanced view, this guide will provide a realistic and helpful resource for anyone in the New York region considering a visit to Melanin & Mimosas.
Melanin & Mimosas is conveniently located at 1604 Broadway, New York, NY 10019. The accessibility of this location is one of its major strengths. It is within a very short walking distance of numerous subway lines, including the 1, 2, 3, A, C, E, N, Q, R, and W trains. What is worth choosing?
Choosing Melanin & Mimosas is a great decision for anyone in New York looking for a brunch experience that is more about the party than the food. The most compelling reason to visit is the atmosphere and the vibrant social scene. It is a premier destination for a celebratory day party, with live music and a trendy vibe that sets it apart from more traditional brunch spots. The unlimited mimosas or bellinis, which are included in the prix-fixe menu, are a significant draw for groups and are central to the festive mood. This is the place to go if your goal is to have fun with friends, enjoy great music, and celebrate a special occasion like a birthday.
The location is another major selling point. Situated in Times Square, it is a convenient gathering point for people coming from different parts of the city. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This was my first time visiting this place, and it wasn’t all bad. The food was okay—my prefix meal included chips and salsa, and I chose the birria tacos made with corn tortillas since I have celiac disease and needed a gluten-free option. My friend got fried shrimp and fries i think. It wasn’t anything special, though. The mimosa tasted like straight juice, and the DJ kept repeating the same songs over and over. Overall, my experience was average. They brought us the check after just an hour and a half, which felt like they were rushing us out—our reservation started at 5:00 PM, and the check was printed at 6:31 PM. Despite this, I did enjoy some of the music and had a bit of fun..
August 10 · Cynthia Leah OkokoThe food was ok. Someone in my party had cod French toast, we had to ask for it to be reheated. The portions were not great for the price with certain entrees like the pasta pasta and French toast. The Mimosas were so orange juicy, very acidic. Great music though. And the hookah are not with $60 with $35 replacements.
May 18 · goddessasetIf I could rate this place with no stars I absolutely would! A group of 5 came to celebrate a birthday dinner here and from the start it was chaos. The host told us that we weren’t aren’t on the list of reservations however we had a confirmation email to prove it. After showing the confirmation email the host advised we wouldn’t be able to get the $25 deposit off of the bill since the confirmation did not specifically say the $25 was paid (not my fault) We also tried to show the bank account the funds were removed from however that also wasn’t accepted because the entity name didn’t say melaninandmimosa (again not our fault) Supposedly the host asked the manager and he denied to honor it. The issue isn’t paying the $25 but if the process to is to pay the $25 to secure the booking then why should the customer be penalized because the establishment doesn’t have an efficient process for booking. After all of that, the show was mid .. songs were repeated as if the dj had a small category of songs. Water was not served to our table at all. Finally, when the bill comes the drink tab comes separately from the food tab so now we’re sitting and waiting while our server gets her bills together which was also annoying. If the bills come separate than it would be wise for staff to bring both receipts at one time. I would never come back here nor would I recommend this place to anyone. I rather go to chuckie e cheese
April 27 · Tanasia EdwardsThe food and atmosphere was amazing. My 12 friends and family had a great time at brunch. We danced and sang the entire time. The mimosas were a hit or miss. Some had too much juice others were perfect. The hookah was good and lasted a good while too. When we arrived there was a hiccup with the reservation but the hostess resolved it and was able to accommodate us. Now for the service, it was bad. I wish gratuity wasn’t included bc the waitress did not deserve any of our coins. She was rude from before I arrived this is what my family told me and then she was rude when time to serve us. She waived me off a few times to where I asked my sis to deal with her bc it was my bday and I didn’t want it to escalate. She didn’t return to check on us and she was all around rude to all of us. I did enjoy that they have a camera man who takes some very good shots by the way. The pictures are an extra cost but worth it. I enjoyed the rum punch tower and birthday sign celebration. Overall it was a good experience and would visit again as long as we don’t have that waitress.
November 17 · Crystal CarsonThe waiter did not refill the mimosas for the table fast enough, seeing as though there was a time limit on the reservation. The mimosas also tasted more like juice than a mimosa. The food was good. There were good food options on the menu. The restaurant was clean and nice. The staff were nice and accomodating. The vibe was great. The dj was good and kept the crowd going. Overall I had fun.
