Redd's Biergarten Introduce
For New Jersey residents seeking a lively atmosphere that skillfully blends traditional German beer hall culture with the energy of a modern American sports bar, look no further than Redd's Biergarten in Newark. This expansive establishment has become a key part of the city's burgeoning entertainment district, offering a unique, communal dining and drinking experience. It proudly operates as a German restaurant, a classic beer garden, and a full-service gastropub, cementing its status as a must-visit destination for great food, excellent beer, and a friendly, casual environment.
Redd's Biergarten is known for its extensive draft list, featuring imported German staples like Hofbräu Original and Radeberger Pilsner, alongside a rotating selection of local New Jersey craft beers and familiar domestics. The food menu is equally impressive, offering authentic German fare—from Schnitzel to various Wursts—alongside popular American comfort food. Whether you're a college student, a local resident, or a visitor in a large group, the venue's ample space and cozy, yet trendy, atmosphere make it ideal for socializing, dining, or catching a game. It successfully continues Newark's rich history of breweries and beer barons by providing a world-class, authentic experience.
Redd's Biergarten is centrally located in Newark at the intersection of 220 Market Street and 37 Edison Place, NJ 07102. This prime address is strategically situated directly across the street from the Prudential Center, making it the perfect pre-game, post-game, or pre-show destination for New Jersey Devils fans, Seton Hall Basketball enthusiasts, and concert-goers attending events at the arena or the nearby NJ Performing Arts Center (NJ PAC).
Accessibility is a key feature of this establishment. For those driving, paid parking is available through both a paid parking lot and paid street parking options nearby. More importantly, Redd's is designed with full accessibility in mind, ensuring that all New Jersey patrons can enjoy the experience comfortably:

For residents of New Jersey, Redd's Biergarten is worth choosing for three primary reasons: its authentic German cuisine, its extensive beer menu, and its unbeatable location as an entertainment hub. Where else in Newark can you find a genuine Wiener Schnitzel that is "crispy" and served with perfectly seasoned sides, alongside a huge glass of German Hefe-Weisse or a local Jersey IPA? The combination of high-quality, freshly prepared German and American bar food with an impressive array of beverages provides an exceptional value. The generous portions and reasonable prices noted by customers further sweeten the deal.
The atmosphere is another major draw. Although it can be lively and loud—perfect for game nights—the communal, sprawling space with its bar and outdoor seating encourages socializing and fun. The fact that the staff is praised for being friendly, even by customers who experienced slow service during a quieter period, suggests a welcoming, positive culture. The owners' thoughtful touches, such as staff wearing themed shirts for concerts next door, show a deep commitment to the local Newark entertainment scene. If you are looking for a venue that guarantees an authentic German-inspired experience, a great drink, a delicious meal, and proximity to Newark's biggest venues, Redd's Biergarten is the definitive choice.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Reading about this place online, while on the plane to Newark, I was really excited to give it a try.The plan was for my husband and I to have dinner and a few drinks while our son attended a concert next door. The beer selection was great, lots of choices and varieties. The food was delicious. The atmosphere was ok. Aside from the great play list being played by one of the bar tenders, there isn't much else to say about it, except that there is a lot of space and they could accommodate a large amount of people. The night we were there, it was fairly dead. Maybe a handful of people at the tables and even fewer people at the bar.My husband and I sat at the bar and were greeted fairly quickly, but after that the service was non existent. After getting our first round of drinks and our food, we never got the chance to order another round, except for once when my husband had to flag someone down who had walked by his empty glass multiple times. The rest of the time the staff stood at the end of the bar conversating and seemed to forget all about us. We would have ordered at least another round or two, but finally gave up and left to try the place next door instead.I do love that the bar staff were wearing themed shirts based on the concert that were playing next door. That was cool. The employees were also very nice, just wish they were a little more attentive.
September 07 · katnnvI want expecting much from this place honestly, looked like your basic sports bar. Service was very friendly but it was really loud. If you are looking for a quiet place to chat, might not be the best option. But wow, the food was SO good! Honestly probably the best bar food I've had in a long time. And I thought the prices were pretty reasonable for the portion sizes. We had the potato pancakes, which were nice and hot and savory. My weiner schnitzel was crispy and the veggies with it were cooked perfectly and well seasoned. The spatzle was absolutely delicious. My husband had one of the sausage meals and really enjoyed it, especially the sauerkraut which was made in house. He also loved all the NJ Devils stuff around. Would recommend for a bite before or after a game or show at NJ PAC which is a quick 10-15 minute walk away up the street.
October 04 · Holly GI am an immigrant from Germany and loved the food & beer selection. I used to live in Newark before moving to Wisconsin in 2012 and came back to visit. I was so happy to see this place and had a great time. Great authentic food! Thanks for a great experience!
May 03 · Alexander LawBe aware that this restaurant automatically adds an 18% gratuity even though it is entirely self-service — you pick up your own food and bus your own tray. There is no option to choose or adjust the tip percentage. This feels misleading and unfair, especially when no table service is provided. Customers should know about this practice before deciding to dine here.
August 24 · Jiani DingHad the sausage and my girl had a burger! The burger was missing the special Cajun portion to it but our friendly bartender took care of it. The beer was mighty and large and I only wish it was also volunteered in a cooled stein, but I don't know if that's too ridiculous of me to ask!Place is definitely trans friendly so do not be afraid. They get doordashers who should be forced to wait out front if you ask me. They're too awful standing near the bar, stop allowing them to do that.Give Redd's a visit! Ask for your order with a toothy smile and I promise they will respond in kind. :)Update: idk it's not even an event afaik but auto gratuity on a solo check I expect bc of >$50 or
