Moonflower Introduce
In the heart of New York City's West Village, a neighborhood celebrated for its historic charm and hidden gems, sits Moonflower, a wine bar that has quickly established itself as a go-to spot for those seeking a unique and intimate experience. Moonflower is not just a place to grab a glass of wine; it's a destination that blends a casual, cozy atmosphere with a trendy, curated approach to its beverage list. The vibe is a major part of the appeal, with some describing it as "Lisa Frank meets Henri Matisse," thanks to its pastel murals and unique decor. This playful aesthetic sets it apart from the often minimalist or rustic decor of other wine bars, creating a space that feels both welcoming and creatively inspired. The focus here is on natural wines from small, indie producers, a nod to the growing movement of sustainable and artisanal winemaking. This dedication to quality and a unique product ensures that every visit offers something new and exciting to discover. Whether you are a seasoned oenophile or new to the world of natural wine, Moonflower provides a comfortable and unpretentious setting to explore new tastes. It’s a place that works just as well for a quiet solo drink as it does for a lively get-together with friends, embodying the relaxed yet stylish spirit of the West Village.
The beverage program at Moonflower is a journey through a world of unique and thoughtfully sourced libations. The wine list, which is the main highlight, features a wide array of natural wines from various regions, including a number of bottles from France, Italy, Slovenia, and even the Finger Lakes region of New York. This curated selection is a testament to the bar’s commitment to providing a diverse and interesting menu that you won’t find at every corner bar. The list includes a mix of sparkling (Pet-Nat), rosé, white, and red wines, catering to a variety of palates. For those who aren't in the mood for wine, Moonflower also offers a selection of other beverages, including craft beers and ciders from local and independent breweries, such as Threes Brewing and Bronx Brewery. The cocktail menu is focused on spritzes with creative names like "Eternal Sunshine" and "Two Hands," which adds to the fun and trendy atmosphere. The bar even offers non-alcoholic options, like Ghia's "Le Spritz," ensuring that everyone can find something to enjoy. While the food offerings are a part of the experience, and some reviews have noted issues with portion size and price, the focus remains on the high-quality and unique beverage list, making it a true wine bar at its core. It is a perfect spot for a quick bite or a small plate to complement your drink, but the main draw is undeniably the wine.
The atmosphere at Moonflower is a major draw for its patrons. It is a small and intimate space, which lends itself to a cozy and personal experience. The combination of a casual and trendy vibe makes it a versatile spot that can feel like a romantic date night destination or a laid-back hangout. The outdoor seating is a significant feature, especially on warm evenings, allowing guests to enjoy their drinks while soaking in the historic charm of the West Village streets. The service is described by many as friendly and attentive, with a staff that is knowledgeable about the unique wine selections and happy to provide recommendations. This personalized service makes a huge difference, especially for those who are new to natural wines and need a little guidance. While the bar accepts reservations, it also welcomes walk-ins, making it a spontaneous and accessible option for those exploring the neighborhood. The fast service is also a highlight, ensuring that you can get your drink and food without a long wait, which is ideal for a quick catch-up or a pre-dinner stop. It’s an ideal spot for solo dining, as the bar's inviting and unpretentious atmosphere makes it comfortable to sit and enjoy a glass of wine on your own.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Cute atmosphere and nice service. The $17 cheese ‘plate’ was more like half a lunchable and the bread was stale. The wine was good but small pours.
June 13 · Anja BossowWine was good but go to Binx instead. Food was bad. The pictured “cheese selection” was $17, when it arrived we were so offended we immediately left. I would have added a star for the wine but decided not to because it was 95 degrees and they were rationing the AC.
June 27 · Claire NMoonflower is one of my favorite places in the city. My girlfriend and I had our first date here and come back every year for our anniversary. Not only is the bar and decor stunning, the staff is top-notch and the food & wine are unique & delicious. It's the perfect spot for a date night, for a small group get-together, or to sit on the patio and people watch in the WV. Every time I go, the service is above and beyond. Absolutely recommend!
August 28 · Maggie SchlechtOverall this place wasn’t worth it for me.Wine was tasty but the food was awful. The burrata we ordered had gone off and tasted bad. We said this to the server who seemed annoyed but took it away. Then she failed to remove it from the bill and was annoyed when we asked. The $12 house bread (2 pieces) was a complete rip off. The chocolate mousse was just ok.The ambience was nice. You can come here for that and the wine but don’t bother with food or expecting good service.
October 26 · Andee DugSuper cute, intimate wine bar. We (2 people) stopped in on a Friday night around 7pm and we are to grab a seat at the bar without a wait. The wine selection is thought out and not too expansive. I tried several glasses as well as one of the wine cocktails. Everything was delicious even if they were not as cold as I would have preferred. (It was a hot day and the fridges were probably having to work pretty hard.)We ordered the cucumber and ricotta toast plates. Both were yummy, especially the sauce on the cucumbers. The food was good but I wouldn’t come here just for the food. The bartender, Jacob, was very personable and made sure we always had something to drink. The atmosphere is hazy and laid-back. It is a great place for intimate conversations. The prices are reasonable.
