★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My first time eating here. The bar is wonderful. The atmosphere in general is quite interesting. I really like the sensation that the Tavern has been here forever, which it has!We started with mussels, which were really perfectly prepared. The Caesar salad was also good, perhaps a bit more anchovies would have enhanced what was a very moved salad. Our main course was fusilli carbonara and it was delicious.I love crème brûlée but tonight it was the only disappointment, the sugar coating did not taste fresh and the pudding uneventful.
April 26 · Michael PomaricoEverything is always delicious at the North Plank Road Tavern. We’ve been going there for years and this weekend was their 46th anniversary. There were 3 menus available and we had a hard time choosing as everything looked wonderful! We dined at the bar as we were in a casual mood, but we’ve sat in the charming dining room many times. The woodwork and history of the bar are so distinctive & intricate. Our bartender was witty and made us 2 different types of delicious margaritas. The discussions with the waitstaff & owner as they popped in and out of the bar area were pleasant and entertaining. The energy in this place is on point. We had a prix fixe 3 course limited edition menu available through 4/5 but many of those items are available or have related regular menu items. For our appetizers we chose escargot & muscles with a sweet sauce. Neither were traditional or what we expected but both were absolutely delicious! We were elated with the muscles. That sauce was delicious. We mopped it up with yummy bread. I could have drank it too though, but I didn’t, obviously. For mains we chose steak and pork. We both had such great meals. Steak was perfectly cooked. Fries & green beans were delicious. Mosaic pork tenderloin roulade was also dreamy. Flavors were brilliant.Dessert was our favorite part, even though it was all great! We chose NY style cheesecake which was a gorgeous stacked presentation. The basil strawberry sauce was incredible. The beignets were awesome. These come traditional style with powdered sugar despite the menu error with listing cinnamon. We prefer traditional. These were light, airy, & the best I’ve now had north of NOLA.We can tell the owner, chef, & entire staff take pride in this restaurant. Their happiness of 46 years in business was beaming from everywhere within those walls last night.
April 05 · Jacci Grillo NotoThis place has been around since 1801—starting out as a stagecoach stop, later transforming into a Prohibition-era speakeasy, then part brothel, and now a fine dining restaurant. Yet most people whiz past it in their cars, unaware that this unassuming old tavern serves some of the best cocktails and cuisine in the Hudson Valley. If you arrive early, you might be lucky enough to run into the owner—warm, welcoming, and hospitable—who just might let you in through the backdoor as he opens the place.Wander through the creaking, narrow corridors and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped through a portal: time travel, in real time. What an experience. This is what makes the Hudson Valley an inscrutable gem—there’s always something new to discover.
September 26 · HudsonValley GemsMyself and 6 other friends stopped by for dinner recently. While our server was amazing and the food was great, there was an incident that left a bad taste in our mouth. One of our friends was showing a short video on his phone to another friend of ours. He passed his phone directly to our other friend; the volume was barely audible to the rest of the table (there was also music playing in the background of the dining room) and it was a short clip. We were told by one of the staff (maybe the owner) that it was disruptive. Again, it was barely audible to the rest of the table. This was towards the end of the meal where we had no issues until that point. We were disappointed at how we were singled out and reprimanded. We did bring it up to him later on and he said his wife informed him of the issue - so we were basically ostracized by someone who wasn't there firsthand to see if indeed we were being loud. Disappointing.
October 02 · Long HoSuperb experience! The service is stellar! The food was devine! The owner is personable and willing to share about the history. If you have opportunity, ask about the link of the distance of the tavern from West Point. It is a good story. If you take a moment, you can go to the bar and see the beautiful carvings, the news paper articles on the walls, and see the amazing artifacts they have found during renovations if the property, and more.Whether you want a glimpse into local history or to enjoy a well prepared meal, this place is a worthy stop!
