Exploring the extensive menu at OKEY Sandwiches and Grill is an adventure into the heart of Ecuadorian flavor. While the menu has a broad range, certain dishes stand out as essential choices for a first-time visitor or a returning local seeking authentic comfort.
The Seafood Star: Arroz Marinero ($22.50). This dish is highly praised by customers for its generous portions, excellent seasoning, and perfectly cooked, non-mushy rice. It's a classic seafood rice dish that is well-loaded with fresh ingredients, representing a true taste of the coast. For an even more immersive experience, the Cazuela (price included in Lunch/Soups, consult for daily pricing) is highly recommended for its richness and depth of flavor, making it a perfect hearty, warming option.
The Grilled Meats: GRILL STEAK ($18.50). For a satisfying, protein-heavy meal, the grilled options are a strong choice. The GRILL STEAK is a staple of Ecuadorian grilling, offering flavorful beef cooked perfectly on the grill. For those dining with a companion, the FAMILY GRILL (2 P) ($34.00) provides a great sampler of their grilled specialties.
For the Traditional Appetizer: EMPANADA ($3.50). A quintessential Latin American snack, the Empanada here is priced attractively for a quick, delicious bite. Also, don't miss the BOLON ($8.50), a traditional plantain dumpling that is a key component of Ecuadorian breakfast and comfort food.
For a Unique Breakfast: TIGRILLO ($11.50). Start your day the authentic Ecuadorian way. Tigrillo is a savory breakfast dish made from mashed green plantains, cheese, and often eggs. The SUPERTIGRILLO ($17.50) is an even heartier version for those needing substantial fuel for a long day in New York.
The Must-Try Soups (LUNCH / SOUPS): ENCEBOLLADO and SANCOCHO. The Encebollado (a refreshing tuna and onion soup) and Sancocho (a comforting meat and vegetable stew) are two pillars of Ecuadorian comfort food. While pricing may vary (consult the menu or staff), these dishes represent the warm, traditional heart of the cuisine and are an essential order for experiencing true Ecuadorian flavor.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Tried Okey at the market hall in Brooklyn. We ordered the arroz marinero, the daily special, and a cazuela. Every dish hit. The arroz marinero was loaded, well-seasoned, and cooked right – not dry, not mushy, just nailed. The cazuela was rich, flavorful, and didn’t skimp on the seafood. Even the special felt like something they actually cared about making, not just a filler item.Service? Spot on. The owner checked in more than once, actually seemed to give a damn that we were enjoying ourselves. You don’t get that often, especially at market-style spots.Only gripe? Not enough seats. But that’s not on them – it’s the market layout. If they had more space, this place would be even more of a hit.Bottom line: Great Ecuadorian food, solid hospitality, worth going out of your way for.
June 21 · Diego ODisappointing experience. I visited Okay today after seeing it gain popularity on social media and had high expectations. Unfortunately, the food lived up to its name—just okay (At best )I ordered the Bandera, Ecuador’s national dish. The Guatita was bland and lacked the traditional flavor. Rather than the usual beef or goat stew, it was made with clams—which were not fresh. The portion size was also small for the price, and overall, the food felt overpriced for the quality offered. I paid over $70 for a Bandera a ceviche and two drinks. The ceviche, which was similarly underwhelming and completely lacking in flavor. While I understand that food courts have limitations and can't always match restaurant quality, the issue here wasn’t setting it was the lack of authentic taste. If you're looking to enjoy true Ecuadorian flavors, I’d suggest looking elsewhere. This place does not do justice to Ecuador’s amazing cuisine. On top of that, the plates they use are not suitable for hot or saucy dishes they begin to peel when in contact with heat or sauces. The only redeeming quality was the friendly staff, but unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to make up for the rest.
May 18 · Erik PeraltaCame here Sunday evening for dinner and this restaurant was the only one that was packed! After seeing the portions and tasting the food I knew why. The food was delicious and the portion was huge!Only issue I had was, the waiter took a very long time to clean the bench we were sitting at.
March 17 · Jia WangCame here after learning that there’s an Ecuadorian food spot in dekalb market. As a fellow Ecuadorian I needed to check if it was authentic Ecuadorian food AND IT ISNot only is it authentic it’s actually REALLY DELICIOUSI couldn’t stop eating and the portions are BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!A couple ordered the mega bandeja and that looked soooo nice will definitely come again!
November 08 · karenThe service was outstanding. During peak hours the place gets packed and it’s hard to find a table. The food is on the spot. I ordered a churrasco among other things and my steak was not fully cooked, but I guess that was my bad for not asking it to be well-done.
