Olivier Bistro Introduce
Welcome to Olivier Bistro, a quintessential slice of authentic French life nestled right in the heart of Brooklyn. For New Yorkers seeking an escape that feels distinctly Parisian without the trans-Atlantic flight, this charming establishment in the South Slope/Park Slope neighborhood offers a truly unique culinary and cultural experience. More than just a restaurant, Olivier Bistro combines a classic French menu with a warm, romantic ambiance, famously offering a unique 'dinner theater' vibe—often featuring a lovely music trio on weekends—that sets it apart from typical NYC dining spots.
The owner, Olivier Verdier, a hands-on restaurateur with roots in Pezenas, France, has cultivated a space that reflects his passion for authentic French traditions and cuisine. Since its founding, the bistro has become a beloved local destination, celebrated for delivering French cooking as it was meant to be—casual, confident, and deeply flavorful. Whether you’re stopping by for a morning pastry, a midday brunch, or a leisurely dinner, Olivier Bistro promises a cozy and approachable setting that makes you feel right at home. It’s an ideal spot for family and friends, a romantic date, or even a solo dining experience.
The dining experience here is centered around classic bistro fare, meticulously prepared and presented. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is designed to transport you. The restaurant is frequently described as cozy, romantic, and exuding an old-world aesthetic, making it a perfect backdrop for a memorable evening. It’s this combination of exquisite food, attentive service, and a delightful, softly lit setting that has made Olivier Bistro an enduring favorite in the Brooklyn dining scene for over a decade.
The 'dinner theater' aspect, while not a formal Broadway show, comes from the presence of a live music trio that often performs on weekends, elevating a simple dinner into a truly European, sophisticated night out. It’s the perfect blend of delicious French steakhouse fare and light, enjoyable entertainment.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Let’s start with the fact that I’m just a year removed from living in Paris and miss it deeper than he sea covers the ocean above. There are special few places for me that transcend local, this is one of those restaurants, I feel like I’m back home in Paris, for even a brief moment. I recommend the escargot for an appetiser and I would like to have tried the fried squid but I picked the fois gras while excellent the matching apple sauce purée was more miss than hit. I have had the steak, duck, and lamb. I recommend them in that order personally, with the steak barely passing the canard. The service is simply devastatingly good and the people as kind as can possibly be. There’s no negatives I have and if you read my other review’s you know that’s rare.UPDATE:Oliver’s: Once a Favorite, Now a MaybeI’ve been a longtime fan of Oliver’s — the ambiance, the French bistro aesthetic, the sense that you’ve stumbled into a little corner of Paris tucked into Brooklyn. But my most recent visit made me question if the magic is fading.👎 Service: Cold and DefensiveOur waitress was… difficult. Dismissive, oddly defensive, and unwilling to take accountability. At one point, she claimed I didn’t get the dessert menu because I had stepped outside to smoke — which I hadn’t. Instead of simply placing the menu on the table like any competent server would, she made it my fault. That kind of interaction just kills the mood.🫤 Food: Technically Fine, Totally ForgettableEverything was cooked well, sure. But nothing tasted like anything special. Sauces were bland. Seasoning was minimal. No dish stood out. It all felt uninspired, like the chef was following a script but forgot the soul.💸 Price: $127 — For What? With service that felt icy and food that didn’t deliver, $127 for one person felt absurd. I’ve had better meals at half the price where I was treated like a human being, not an inconvenience.⸻I’m hoping this was just an off night. Oliver’s has been great in the past. But the vibe, the food, and the service all missed the mark — and for now, I can’t recommend it the way I used to.
September 06 · Daniel BOne of my go to restaurants in the neighborhood. Their lentil curry (not spicy) is my comfort meal. The gnocchi was good too.
June 05 · Yu C.The food was soooo good! I really enjoyed oysters, foie gras with apple sauce and steak with fresh fries ❤️wine was also great! The service was also good despite the fact the waiter forgot to give me a fork (but that was Valentine’s Day, there were many people and it was already late, maybe the waiter was tired)
February 15 · VOlivier Bistro earns every positive comment. This place uses design elements purposefully. The flavors were what you'd typically expect. Olivier Bistro satisfies two needs with quality food and employee service. You'll enjoy dependable quality.
September 27 · Lloyd HolmesThis is a wonderful small French restaurant. There is a very cozy and homely atmosphere here. Here is a very friendly and cheerful hostess and excellent service! There is very tasty food and no less delicious desserts. The prices are quite reasonable. You should definitely look here and enjoy this indestable atmosphere!
