Potenza Centrale Introduce
Introduction / Overview
In a city where pizza is a religion, and New York-style is the gospel, finding a place that can not only stand out but also "ruin all other pizza" for a devoted fan is a monumental achievement. Potenza Centrale, located in the heart of the East Village, is that place. It's a pizzeria that has quickly become a beloved neighborhood fixture by introducing New Yorkers to the a unique and superior Roman-style pizza. This isn't the thin, foldable slice you're used to; it's a thicker, focaccia-like, rectangular pie with a crust that has been meticulously crafted over a 76-hour, triple-fermented process. The result is a pizza that is light and airy on top with a "crouton-like crunch on the bottom," offering a completely new and delicious textural experience. The reviews are filled with praise for this innovation, with one patron saying it's a "perfectly crafted dough" with "unique and flavorful toppings."
The man behind this culinary masterpiece is Luigi, the owner and a "great host" who brings a wealth of experience and genuine warmth to the establishment. His return to the East Village, where he previously owned the beloved restaurant "Max," is a story that resonates with locals and adds a personal, familial touch to the business. The passion and care that goes into every slice are palpable, from the homemade mozzarella and sauce to the friendly conversation you can have with Luigi himself. This intimate, personal feel is a significant part of the charm of Potenza Centrale. It's a casual and cozy spot that is popular for lunch, dinner, and even solo dining, creating a space that feels both trendy and welcoming. This unique blend of culinary excellence and personal hospitality is what makes Potenza Centrale an essential and exciting addition to the East Village's "diverse food scene." It's a place that has managed to create something "unique and still delicious" in a city already saturated with great pizza, proving that there is always room for a true culinary gem when the quality is this high.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I usually prefer New York-style pizza. This place, with its square Roman pizza (similar to Sicilian, but better imo) has ruined all other pizza for me. At $5.50 a square (which is about as filling as one and a half NY slices) this place is also a lot cheaper than most non-dollar-slice spots in Manhattan. And the owner, Luigi, is a great host. In a neighborhood with a lot of turnover, I hope this place lasts a while. A great addition to East Village’s diverse food scene.
April 30 · Sne Avichalthis pizzeria serves pizza like I've never tasted before. From their perfectly crafted dough to their unique and flavorful toppings, every bite is equally delicious. It's my goto spot at least once a week!
November 22 · JillExcellent, light, airy dough - Roman style slices are delicious. Simple toppings but great flavor. Vegan marinara slice was excellent. Affordable. Small table and chairs outside for two diners. Kind staff. What more to say?
April 27 · Dean ChahimA fantastic new addition to the neighborhood. Luigi is the greatest. He's been cooking in nyc for years, and recently moved back from Hudson Valley and opened this pizza spot to be closer to his son. They make roman style pizza, and also sell fresh mozzarella and tomato sauce for fantastic prices. A must hit spot if you live in the area and appreciate a good culinary experience!
November 16 · Steven PetrilloBorn and raised in Milan, I really love Potenza Centrale and itspizza. Luigi is the best and his fresh food is so delicious and authentic. Grazie Luigi
