The cashier charge me different price for bread or tennis roll every time. She switch up the price each and every time. They never have change and they never give you back correct money back. I'll describe them as BAIT AND SWITCH. They charge me $5 for a pack of tennis roll. $5 for a loaf of bread. Another day she charge me $2. For bread $2 for tennis roll, and so the price changes constantly. I once got expired or stale products from them. We all work hard for our money's and we expect to get what our money's worth. I never went to a store to purchase anything and always being told by the cashier that they don't have change, and always getting short change consistently. The owner or manager never on premises to make any complaints. Customers should be aware or these circumstances and terrible services provided by rays bakery. - Mohamed Raheem

Ray's Bakery Introduce

In the vibrant neighborhood of Richmond Hill, Queens, a community known for its rich cultural tapestry and diverse culinary scene, Ray's Bakery stands as a small but dedicated establishment for fresh, baked goods. Having recently undergone renovations, this local bakery offers a variety of products that cater to the tastes of the community. It’s the kind of place you visit for a quick, no-frills experience, where the focus is squarely on providing an array of baked items and snacks. While it may not be a large, fancy operation, its presence on Jamaica Avenue offers a convenient stop for residents and commuters. The bakery prides itself on providing a range of products, from staple breads to unique cultural sweets like Mithai, making it a familiar and important part of the neighborhood's daily life. It's a spot that offers a direct, straightforward approach to food retail, centered on the simple pleasure of fresh, baked products.

Ray's Bakery is conveniently located at 123-25 Jamaica Ave, Richmond Hill, NY 11418. Its location is a major advantage for its customers, situated near key public transportation routes that serve the Richmond Hill area. It is easily accessible via the J train, a vital link for many residents, as well as the Q10 and Q56 buses. This proximity to public transit makes it a perfect stop for commuters grabbing a snack on their way to or from work. For those looking to make a quick visit, the bakery is well-suited for a fast stop. This focus on convenience aligns with the fast-paced nature of New York City, where locals are often on the go. While a customer review mentioned issues with cash payments and change, the fact that the bakery operates on a cash-only basis is an important detail for potential customers to be aware of before their visit. Its role as a neighborhood bakery means it serves a very specific and local need, offering daily staples that are central to the community's rhythm.

The service model at Ray's Bakery is designed for efficiency and a streamlined experience. With a focus on takeout, it caters to customers who are looking for a quick purchase without the need for a dine-in option. The bakery is a destination for a "quick visit," as indicated in the provided information, which means it is ideal for those who know exactly what they want and need to be on their way. The business has a clear, no-frills approach, which is part of its character as a local, community-focused bakery. A customer review, however, did highlight some concerns about inconsistent pricing and issues with having correct change. This is an important consideration for customers to be mindful of. Despite these issues, the business has maintained a presence, likely due to its affordable prices and the familiar products it offers to a loyal customer base. The cash-only policy is a critical part of its operational model and something that visitors should be prepared for to ensure a smooth transaction. This direct approach to service is a key part of the local, small business experience, where the emphasis is on the product itself rather than an elaborate customer service protocol.

Services Offered:

  • Takeout: The primary service, allowing customers to quickly purchase items and take them to go.

Ray's Bakery, while small, offers a selection of baked goods that are central to its identity. The offerings are simple and classic, focusing on items that are a staple in many households. The menu includes a variety of breads, which are a key part of their product line. They also offer what is described as "Fried Channa (Chickpeas)," a popular snack in Caribbean and Guyanese cuisine. The presence of Mithai, a traditional South Asian sweet, further highlights the bakery's connection to the diverse cultural fabric of Richmond Hill. Other items include sweet pastries and "Cassava pone," another popular Caribbean dessert. A key highlight, as noted in a customer review, is that their prices are generally lower than those of other bakeries in the area, which makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious customers. It's a place that provides familiar flavors at an accessible price point, which is a significant feature in a big city. The bakery does not specialize in custom orders like wedding cakes, reinforcing its focus on providing everyday, classic baked goods. This commitment to its core offerings, rather than trying to be an all-in-one bakery, is a defining characteristic.

Features / Highlights:

  • Affordable Prices: The bakery is noted for having prices that are lower than competitors, making it a good value.
  • Cultural Offerings: The menu includes items like Fried Channa and Mithai, appealing to the diverse community.
  • Convenient Location: Located near major public transit lines, making it an easy stop for commuters.
  • Freshly Prepared Goods: The focus is on preparing baked goods, with a variety of breads, pastries, and snacks available.

When considering what is worth choosing from Ray's Bakery, the decision is straightforward, as the menu is focused on a few core items. The main draws are the classic staples that the bakery is known for. The bread and "tennis rolls" are foundational products, and a customer review confirms their presence. While one review noted potential issues with freshness, the products are generally a daily staple for many in the area. For those looking for a cultural experience, the "Fried Channa" and "Mithai" are excellent choices that provide a taste of Guyanese and South Asian snacks. The sweet pastries are also a solid option for anyone with a sweet tooth. The bakery's main selling point is its affordability, so customers can expect to get a good value for their money. While it's important to be aware of the cash-only policy and the customer service issues noted in a review, for those seeking a quick, inexpensive, and familiar baked good, Ray's Bakery offers exactly that. It's a local business that serves a very specific need, and for that, it remains a part of the neighborhood fabric.
