Red Sorghum 夜宴 Reviews
I came to Red Sorghum for my birthday with a party of 12 and we reserved the private room upstairs. There’s a $50 per person minimum for the private room, which honestly worked out perfectly, we got to order so many dishes and try a huge variety of their menu! The dinner was amazing from start to finish. The food came out in waves, a few dishes at a time, which I really appreciated, it kept the table from feeling too crowded and let us enjoy each dish fresh. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, and the overall service was excellent.Everyone in my group raved about how flavorful everything was. Some standout dishes were:- Chairman’s Braised Pork: melt in your mouth fatty and tender, served with quail eggs.- Xiang Xi Fried Rice: packed with flavor and perfectly cooked.- Mali Tofu: bold, spicy, and so addictive. Most of the dishes had a spicy kick, but it was balanced and absolutely delicious. I’d definitely recommend Red Sorghum for anyone looking to celebrate an event with a larger party or even just with friends.(Food was so good, forgot to take more photos)
July 16 · SusanThe food, drinks, decor were all top notch. We got the steamed eggs w/ clam, water spinach satay, cucumber salad, and peppercorn fish stew! I’m not the best with spice but the peppercorn was a good numbing type of spice that paired perfectly with the other dishes. Food also came out pretty quickly and everyone was super nice. Would love to come back and try other dishes, they have a huge selection. Would recommend having a reservation as they get quite busy esp on weekends but we were able to snag some seats at the bar!
August 17 · Jiaxuanabsolutely delicious! It was super easy to get to off the 7 train from Manhattan and was blown away with the big portions and quality of the food! We got the eggplant, golden tofu and salt and pepper smelt and everything was so delicious. The atmosphere of this restaurant is so vibey and has lots of seating. The service was incredible and you can make reservations super easily. I will definitely be coming back :)
September 06 · Courtney TakahashiI made a last-minute reservation here, drawn in by the intriguing ambiance. The interior is stunning, with decor and an atmosphere that evoke the charm of ancient China. Unfortunately, the flavors didn't quite live up to my expectations. Sichuan cuisine is known for its bold and spicy profiles, but most of the dishes I ordered were surprisingly mild. I was also disappointed that the Forbidden Romance cocktail wasn't available during my visit. Here's a breakdown of my experience:- Young & Mei Cosmo: A solid cocktail--light, refreshing, and not overly sweet.- Hengyang Brine Rice Noodle: A simple yet satisfying dish with sliced beef and chopped jalapeños. Pretty good overall!- Double Cooked Pork: Very oily and just okay. It lacked the spice I was expecting and wasn't memorable--I could've skipped this one.- Peppercorn Fish Stew: This dish had potential, but it fell short. The fish wasn't fully descaled, and the skin was left on, which detracted from the experience. The flavor leaned more sour and pickled than spicy, and it was overly oily. I was highly disappointed.- Phoenix Spiced Chicken: Despite its three-pepper label, this dish was shockingly mild. It lacked the signature Sichuan peppercorn kick I was hoping for--another letdown.- Sautéed String Beans: My favorite dish of the night! You can't go wrong with this classic.- Brown Rice: Slightly overcooked and starchy.Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place or return. It's slightly overpriced. The flavors didn't capture the essence of authentic Sichuan cuisine. For a much better experience, I'd highly recommend Szechuan Mountain House instead.
June 06 · Jamie LCame here on a Saturday around lunch time and we were the only table dining, therefore service was great.Out of the 5 dishes we ordered, we liked the Mongolian lamb and cabbage stir fry the most. I had high expectations for the lotus root rib soup but it was lacking some flavor and taste like premade food.Overall food was solid and came in decent portion for sharing.
