What is Worth Choosing
For first-time diners and seasoned guests alike, choosing a dish at Samarkand City should focus on the highlights of Uzbeki cooking—the hearty mains that define the cuisine. The establishment is a strong proponent of this traditional fare, and a review of the typical menu items offered by Uzbek restaurants underscores what a visitor should prioritize.
Plov, the cornerstone of Uzbek gastronomy, is arguably the must-try dish. This national entrée, typically made with rice, lamb, carrots, onions, and a delicate blend of spices, offers a deeply satisfying and culturally significant culinary experience. It is the perfect introduction to the richness of Central Asian flavor profiles.
Another highly recommended choice is Lagman. Whether served as a rich, aromatic soup or a stir-fried main course (Qovurma Lagman), the fresh, hand-pulled noodles combined with tender beef or lamb and hearty vegetables create a comforting and savory dish. The soup version is particularly nourishing, making it an excellent choice on a cool New York evening.
Lastly, the Shish Kebabs are a highlight not to be missed. The authentic grilling of various meats, such as Lamb Kebab, Beef Kebab, or the savory Lyulya Kebab (ground beef/lamb), showcases the restaurant's skill with fire and seasoning. Ordering an Assorted Shish Kebab plate is a great way to sample a variety of these perfectly charred and tender meats. The menu often also includes specialty dumplings like Mantu or Samsa (baked puff pastry with meat), which are excellent starters or side dishes.
While one customer review mentioned a negative experience with waiting time and service prioritization, it is important to consider this alongside another customer's highly positive feedback, particularly concerning catering and banquet services. The positive review highlights fresh food and helpful, loved waiters for a large event, suggesting the restaurant excels in its ability to manage significant parties and deliver high-quality food and service for catered affairs. For New Yorkers planning a banquet or celebration, the strong, positive feedback on their catering capacity makes Samarkand City a compelling option for a large, well-priced, and memorable event. However, solo diners or small parties should plan ahead and perhaps consider less busy hours to ensure a smoother dining-in experience. Ultimately, the unique and authentic Uzbeki menu, combined with the restaurant’s versatile services, makes Samarkand City a worthy dining choice in Brooklyn.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I strongly advise everyone not to go to this restaurant — it’s a complete waste of time.I arrived around 11:30, and a young, possibly underage waiter took my order. But instead of serving fairly, he prioritized his friends and people from his own country. Because of that, I had to wait almost an hour for my food while others who came after me were served first. This was one of the worst dining experiences of my life — it felt unfair and disrespectful. I will never go back, and I recommend others stay away from this place.
