At this moment…. The absolute BEST Omakase I’ve experienced in New York, so much so that it took second place on my “ Beli” list. Chef Marco Lin is clearly extremely dedicated to his craft, is outgoing, talks to his guests and has an amazing smile that warms your soul. He made sure to explain every dish to every guest regardless of if they heard him or not ( while he was explaining to another party). Everything is fresh, high quality & absolutely delicious. Tony….who I’m not sure how to describe him… maybe a waiter? Was extremely friendly, helpful & funny and made the experience that much better.Chef Marco:You are an expert in your craft and it shows, from the layout of the sushiya, to the freshness of the sushi and your kindness and hospitality. We made friends with everyone around us as the space itself is small and intimate.I was even shocked…. Originally when I made a Resy it asked if it was for any special occasion to which I marked: Birthday. I figured it was an internal way for Resy to know who visits what restaurants for what reason…. However…. My jaw dropped when at the end of the meal Tony brought out a “ Yuzu Ice cream with peppercorn” ( insanely unique & delicious combo) with candle and everyone from chef Marco to every guest…. Began to sing for the person whom I originally booked the Omakase for..It was an unforgettable experience, unforgettable sushi & time.Thank you Sushi Mumi, Tony & Chef Marco Lin. - Joshua Portnoy

Sushi Mumi Introduce

In the heart of New York City’s bustling East Village lies a serene and exquisite culinary retreat: Sushi Mumi. This is a destination for true connoisseurs of Japanese cuisine, offering a world-class omakase experience that feels both personal and profoundly artistic. The moment you step off the lively streets of St Marks Place and into this intimate sushiya, the frantic pace of the city melts away. You are welcomed into a cozy and trendy atmosphere where the focus is entirely on the craft and the moment. It's a place where the art of Edomae-style sushi is not just presented, but celebrated, with every dish telling a story of dedication, precision, and passion.

Sushi Mumi is the brainchild of Chef Marco Lin, a veteran of the Michelin-starred Sushi Ginza Onodera, and his expertise is evident in every single detail. The omakase menu, which translates to "I leave it up to you," is a trust-based culinary journey where the chef curates a meal of the highest quality, hyper-seasonal ingredients. As a New Yorker, you know that a truly great meal is about more than just the food; it's about the entire experience. At Sushi Mumi, this experience is elevated by the warm and engaging personalities of Chef Marco and his team. They don’t just serve food; they create an unforgettable memory, explaining each dish with a genuine smile and a deep knowledge of their craft. This personal connection with the chef and the small, intimate setting make it a truly unique and special occasion, perfect for solo dining or a memorable evening out.

The restaurant’s reputation is built on its commitment to quality. Ingredients are flown in directly from Japan's renowned Toyosu market, and Chef Lin's innovative techniques and traditional skills transform them into edible works of art. From the meticulously prepared nigiri to the delicate appetizers (otsumami), every course is a revelation. The high praise from real customers, who call it the "absolute BEST Omakase" they've experienced, is a testament to the exceptional quality and service. It is a place that brings people together, where conversation flows easily between guests and the chef, creating a shared sense of discovery and delight.
