The core of the experience at The Portrait Bar is its exceptional cocktail menu. Instead of a typical list of ingredients, the drinks are named after global locations, inviting you to embark on a liquid journey. The "Cebu Island" and "Mapo District" cocktails are particularly lauded for their complex and unique flavors. The "Barrio Getsemani" and "St. James" are also highly recommended for those who appreciate a well-balanced and expertly crafted drink. The knowledgeable servers are a major asset, as they can provide excellent recommendations to help you navigate the menu and find a drink that perfectly matches your taste.
Beyond the drinks, the "Parlor Snacks" are not to be overlooked. The "Comté Gougères," light and savory cheese puffs, are an ideal starter, and the "French Onion Dip" with housemade potato chips is a classic done to perfection. For a more substantial bite, the "Prawn Cocktail" and the "Burger" are popular choices that showcase the kitchen’s ability to elevate classic bar fare. The menu is intentionally concise, ensuring that every item is executed with precision and care.
While some reviews mention that the wait for a table can be long, this is a testament to the bar's popularity and worth. The fact that the staff often accommodates longer stays for guests who are enjoying their time and ordering multiple rounds of drinks and food is a sign of their excellent hospitality. While the prices may be on the higher end, as is common for a venue of this caliber in New York City, the overall experience—from the stunning atmosphere and the art on the walls to the perfectly crafted drinks and attentive service—justifies the cost. It is an ideal spot for a pre-theater drink, a special date night, or a celebratory GNO (Girl's Night Out) where you want to feel both pampered and at ease. The Portrait Bar is a destination that delivers on its promise of a memorable and aesthetically pleasing evening.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Good cocktails and atmosphere overall! Walk-ins aren’t easy so make sure to get a reservation. While everything was decent, I went in with high expectations since it’s on the top 50 bar list and the drinks didn’t deliver to that extent. It’s no doubt an amazing hotel bar, but if you’re a local then it might not live up to the wait times especially considering there’s another excellent bar across the street. Not to say the drinks weren’t alright, just not stellar. The complimentary popcorns were a nice touch too.
August 29 · L.Perfect GNO / date night spot! The cocktails were amazing (get the cebu island and the Mapo district if you like more complex flavors! Honorable mention to the Barrio Getsemani and St James), the atmosphere was perfect (dim lighting, a little loud but not too enough that you can’t hear each other). Got some bites as well (the gougères were so yummy, as was the tuna tartare, the burger was good but not extraordinary) and the service was super friendly and knowledgeable to top it off (server gave great recommendations. Also tables are reserved for 90min, but the staff let us stay longer, probably cause we got two rounds of drinks and food)All in all a great experience in an aesthetic setting to have a well executed cocktail in good company. 🍸
April 29 · Nolwenn CEvery drink is impeccable. One of the coolest place you will ever go to. Service and the quality is absolutely A+, if you are staying at the hotel even better. Enjoy a truly vintage modern bar with the portraits we all need
June 04 · Santos ShettyBeautiful bar with immaculate interior design and very cool portraits of all sorts on the walls. Lounge seatings seem nice and more appropriate for larger parties but the bar is fun as well, especially with the delightful bartenders. Both the burger and hot dog are tasty, although I enjoyed the hot dog slightly more than the burger. Great drinks as well!
April 05 · Rovik RobertAmazing!!!! It was a busy Saturday night, but they got us in so fast. The ambiance is beautiful and you get too tier service. Our server Cheryl was absolutely amazing. We couldn’t have asked for a better server. We all had different tastes for our drinks and she found us each the perfect drink. She was super attentive and made sure that we were having a great night. Service was quick, but she made sure to keep us updated. I highly recommend this place.
