In a city filled with endless options for nightlife, finding a spot that offers a distinct and memorable experience is a true win. For those who appreciate a no-frills, authentic, and slightly mysterious vibe, WAKAMBA BAR on 8th Avenue is a name worth knowing. This bar is a genuine slice of New York City, appealing to both seasoned locals and curious visitors looking for something different from the polished, high-end establishments. It's the kind of place where you can unwind with a drink, enjoy a lively atmosphere, and feel the true pulse of the neighborhood.
WAKAMBA BAR isn't trying to be a sleek, modern cocktail lounge. Instead, it embraces a casual and cozy atmosphere that makes it feel like a secret hideaway right in the heart of the city. While some may find it a bit raw, others are drawn to its unpretentious nature. It's a place where you can grab a drink after work, meet up with friends for a night out, or simply pop in for a quick, solo bite. Its reputation as a place for a "nice dark cozy bar" is a testament to its unique character, providing a welcome contrast to the bright lights and constant motion of nearby Times Square.
---WAKAMBA BAR is strategically located at 543 8th Ave, New York, NY 10018. The bar's location makes it easily accessible for anyone in the city, whether you're traveling by bus, subway, or just walking through the neighborhood.
While the bar's specific accessibility features are not widely detailed, its ground-floor location on a major avenue makes it a relatively easy place to find and enter. The atmosphere is notably casual, attracting a diverse crowd of locals and groups. It’s the kind of place where everyone feels like they belong, and the focus is on good company and a good time. ---WAKAMBA BAR is a classic bar in every sense of the word, with a focus on serving a wide range of beverages to suit various tastes. The bar's offerings are extensive and include a variety of drink options for all preferences:

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Loud place - the bar tender has no clue about liquor - seems like a shabby place - for late night hookup in NYC.Good location - service could be better …. And overpriced liquor.
July 14 · John DaddaIf you like a nice dark cozy bar, Wakamba is your place. The cost of my Ciroc Apple was $16.
August 13 · ButtonsAwesome dive bar. Definitely a place to hang out any day of the week. Nice music Spanish style. Definitely will be back for some drinks.
February 01 · JC CWarning… Not a typical dive bar price. Rum and Diet serve in a 6oz plastic cup with a bunch of ice $15, and 1 shot probably 1-2 oz $15… this picture it was $30… just for that. For that price, I’ll prefer going to an upscale bar. Dive bars are supposed to be cheap drinks. For sure not worth it. The Owner was drunk, sitting at the bar making a scene. There was a group of 5-7 guys super drunk stumping around the bar. You have to pay to listen to music. Which unfortunately I if you didn’t, you’d be stuck listening to 80’s Spanish love songs. The bartender was friendly; she kept bringing us drinks. We wouldn’t be done with one that she would be asking us if we wanted another round. Of course, with those prices. Based on other reviews I have read here, the bartender changes the drink prices depending on how they feel. Guess she thought we had money 🤷🏻♀️Not even sure how this place has a 4-star rating.
June 27 · Vanessa SantiagoOther than a good story to tell, I wouldn’t recommend this place. The review below hit it spot on, $100 for 4 drinks, yowza!
