## What is Worth Choosing
For a first-timer or a local looking for an authentic and satisfying meal at 88 Canteen, the best approach is to lean into their Hong Kong cafe roots. The restaurant has perfected several signature dishes that define this style of Chinese dining:
1. The Classic Breakfast Set: Start your day with the authentic HK experience. Customers rave about the Condensed Milk Toast and Eggs set, which typically includes your choice of the rich, strong HK-style milk tea (often described as 'banging') or coffee. It's a simple, perfect execution of a local classic.
2. Noodle and Rice Staples: For a larger meal, one cannot go wrong with the highly recommended Beef Ho Fun (Beef Chow Fun), praised for its smoky 'wok hei' flavor and excellent texture. Alternatively, the Yangzhou Fried Rice is noted for its quality. If you want a taste of both Eastern and Western influences, the Pork Chop Sandwich (specifically, the crispy pork chop on a soft, pillowy bun) is a standout.
3. Comfort Food Deep Dive: On a chilly day, an authentic bowl of Congee (rice porridge) or a serving of Fried Cruellers is the ultimate comfort food, reflecting the deep culinary traditions of Cantonese home cooking. Look for savory toppings like sliced fish or preserved egg.
A crucial point to remember before visiting is the Cash-only payment policy. While some may find this inconvenient, it's a common characteristic of many authentic, high-volume, neighborhood-focused eateries in New York City's ethnic enclaves, allowing them to keep prices low and service quick. Come prepared with cash to ensure a smooth, delicious experience at this Flushing staple.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1If you want to eat where the locals eat, this is the place to go!! It is a small hole in the wall place but smack on Main Street, very conveniently located. Service is quick, the price decent, food authentic. We went there for their authentic breakfast sets. I loved their condensed milk toast and eggs that comes with coffee or tea. I would definitely recommend this place for authentic Chinese food. They also have freshly baked desserts and bubble tea. The downside is that it is cash only and has very limited seating which makes it very crowded during peak times.
July 22 · Suchitra KamathReally good food, and the staff is polite. I highly recommend the yangzhou fried rice and the beef ho fun.
August 19 · john zakamiThis place is great! Ladies are very nice. Got a bunch of stuff. All was good. Only took 1 star off for bathroom. No toilet paper and a little dirty…Chinese standard it’s fine. Hahahaha ~~
December 24 · Fukui CheungOrdered some sponge cakes and beef chow fun after grabbing a quick bite at a restaurant on the next block. The beef chow fun had a good portion size, and the noodles cooked just right. Should have come here instead to enjoy the Hong Kong style cuisine, but it was tight, and the tables were full.
October 07 · Juan LimaJust wanted to come in for a cup of coffee and bakery items, found out they also have hot dish on the menu, we ordered fried noodles which is delicious. Mark who run the store is friendly and nice. Give a big thumbs up👍! Will come back again definitely.
