John F. Kennedy International Airport, Terminal 5, Queens, NY 11430, USA

1.0
This is the expected disappointment from an airport venue. Got a slice each of Margherita and Artichoke. I'm giving them 2 stars because the quality and price were basically what you'd expect from an airport location- $7 to $8 per slice, overcooked in the oven, then not reheated adequately to remelt the cheese. They could do way better than this, given that this is a chain with good pizza. There's a walk-up with a self-order keypad. Easy-peasy to order and pay. Then you step to the right side of the counter and wait for your name to be called. Employee puts it on a paper plate and bags it, tells you that napkins are over on the other side of the register behind you. There is also seating with dining tables right there.Would I eat at this location again? Only if there isn't a big line ahead of me. - APRIL THOMISON BRENNER

Artichoke Introduce

**Artichoke Basille’s Pizza** at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) Terminal 5 offers a high-speed slice of authentic New York pizza culture right where travelers need it most. Originating from a celebrated spot in the East Village, this pizza restaurant is a local favorite known for its incredibly rich, thick-crust, and often square-cut slices. While New York is the pizza capital of the world, Artichoke carved out its niche by specializing in unconventional yet highly addictive flavors, most notably the signature Artichoke slice.

Located within the bustling framework of the **Regional airport**, this Artichoke location is strategically placed to capture the crowds of both **Locals** heading out or coming home, and **Tourists** eager for a final or first taste of authentic NYC fare. The atmosphere is decidedly **Casual**, reflecting the energetic, no-frills nature of a classic New York slice joint, adapted for the airport setting. It provides a welcome dose of recognizable comfort food amidst the general stress of air travel.

The restaurant's focus is on providing a **Quick bite** that can easily satisfy a hunger pang during the rush of a layover or before boarding. It is highly **Popular for Lunch, Dinner, and Solo dining**, recognizing the reality that many airport customers are traveling alone and need an easy, filling meal. As a well-known brand, it benefits from its reputation for generous portions and unique, heavy slices that are closer to a meal than a light snack. However, local New Yorkers who are devoted to the original Manhattan locations should manage their expectations, as the quick-service, high-volume environment of an airport can sometimes affect the precise preparation and freshness of the slices compared to its city counterparts. Reviews specifically point out that the slices can sometimes be overcooked or inadequately reheated, a common concession to airport logistics and high turnover.

Despite these necessary compromises, Artichoke remains a celebrated brand that delivers on its promise of rich, satisfying **Comfort food** in a setting that makes it easily accessible to travelers. Its operation emphasizes efficiency, often employing self-order keypads to minimize wait times, which is a major convenience when rushing to a gate.

Location and Accessibility

Artichoke Basille's Pizza is situated within the heart of **John F. Kennedy International Airport, Terminal 5, Queens, NY 11430, USA**. Terminal 5 is primarily home to JetBlue Airways and is well-regarded for its modern and diverse dining options.

Positioned in the main food court or atrium area post-security, the restaurant is highly accessible to all passengers flying in and out of T5. Being an airport location, accessibility is a priority, and the venue provides a **Wheelchair accessible entrance**, ensuring ease of access for all patrons and their luggage. The flow is designed to be efficient: order at a counter or self-order kiosk, wait for your name to be called, and quickly secure your slices for consumption at the nearby common seating areas or for **Takeout** to bring onto your flight.

The Queens location makes it an integral part of the borough’s vast airport complex, serving thousands of commuters and global travelers daily. While a definitive operating schedule should always be checked via the airport’s official site, Artichoke’s nature as a quick-service food venue within a major transport hub dictates long hours, typically covering breakfast, lunch, and dinner service periods.

Features / Highlights

The Artichoke Pizza at JFK Terminal 5 stands out from other airport dining options due to several unique highlights:

  • Iconic New York Brand: It provides immediate brand recognition and a familiar taste of the city to both locals and international visitors. The chain’s reputation for delivering unique, indulgent pizza flavors is a major draw.
  • The Artichoke Slice: The star attraction is its namesake slice—a thick-crusted, intensely rich, and creamy pizza that is instantly recognizable and unlike any traditional New York slice. It’s an ideal choice for a filling, high-caloric meal.
  • Unconventional Menu: Beyond the signature slice, the menu offers distinct flavor profiles such as the Vodka Sauce slice and the Staten Island slice (with meatballs, red onions, and ricotta), setting it apart from standard airport pizza fare.

  • Crowd Appeal: The **Casual atmosphere** appeals broadly to both the time-sensitive business traveler and families, establishing it as a go-to spot for a convenient and satisfying meal.

What is Worth Choosing

For New Yorkers rushing through JFK Terminal 5, Artichoke Basille’s Pizza is worth choosing primarily for its **unmatched convenience and substantial comfort food offerings**. While some loyal customers may find the airport version of the pizza slightly inferior to the fresh-from-the-oven experience of the Manhattan locations—citing issues with temperature or density—the trade-off for speed and accessibility is significant and often necessary in the airport context.

The decision to choose Artichoke is essentially a decision to prioritize a **quick, filling, and distinctly New York meal**. The Artichoke Slice itself is a legendary, one-of-a-kind creation that provides a massive dose of flavor and satisfaction. For passengers facing a flight delay, a quick connection, or simply a long flight ahead, an Artichoke slice is a guaranteed hunger-stopper and a beloved New York staple. It provides an immediate and recognizable sense of place, a final or first culinary touchpoint of the city.

The modern ordering system further solidifies its value proposition, making it a reliable choice when time is of the essence. While the price per slice is higher than a typical neighborhood spot—a reality for all airport concessions—the generous size and richness of the pizza deliver solid value for money in this unique environment. It’s the perfect spot for **Solo dining** and securing a heavy, satisfying meal that truly feels like an indulgence, making it the superior choice over standard, low-quality fast-food alternatives in the terminal.
