AYAM Introduce
In the heart of Long Island City lies AYAM, a casual and inviting eatery that has quickly become a go-to spot for those craving authentic Thai and Malaysian flavors. AYAM isn't your typical sprawling restaurant; it's a "little casual Thai Malay spot" with a simple, clean design and a focus on delicious, high-quality food. The name itself, "Ayam," is a familiar word for "chicken" in both Malay and Indonesian, hinting at the menu's specialization in delectable chicken-based dishes. This restaurant serves as a culinary bridge, bringing a taste of Southeast Asia to New York and delighting locals with its unique and flavorful offerings.
What sets AYAM apart is its dedication to offering a curated menu of signature dishes. Instead of an overwhelming list of options, you'll find a focused selection of classic and popular items, allowing the kitchen to perfect each one. The space is designed for both a quick bite and a relaxed meal, with a couple of tables and a high-top bench area. It's an ideal spot for a lunch break, a satisfying dinner, or a convenient takeout order. Beyond the fantastic food, the atmosphere is enhanced by a friendly and welcoming staff, making every visit a pleasant and memorable experience. The cozy and well-designed interior, complete with "funny chicken themed decor," adds a fun and personal touch that reflects the passion behind the restaurant.

If you're looking for a genuinely satisfying and flavorful meal in the New York area, AYAM offers several dishes that are absolutely worth choosing. The Nasi Lemak is a popular choice and is lauded for its "perfectly fried" chicken and delicious sambal. The Murtabak is another star on the menu, described as "especially flavorful and unique." It’s a ground chicken-stuffed egg pancake that provides a delicious and distinct experience you won't easily find elsewhere.
For those who love classic rice dishes, you have three fantastic options: the Fried Chicken Rice, Steamed Chicken Rice, and Grilled Chicken Rice. Each is served with flavorful ginger rice, a warm broth, and a fermented spicy ginger sauce that brings the entire dish together. If you're having trouble deciding, the Combo Chicken Rice allows you to try any two chicken types in one go. The menu also includes popular Thai staples like Pad Thai and Pad Kra Pow, which are prepared with great care and packed with flavor. The Khao Soi, a coconut curry noodle dish, also comes highly recommended.
Beyond the main courses, the side dishes are a great way to enhance your meal. The Wonton Chips with their "laab seasoning" are a fun and delicious snack. And to complete your authentic experience, be sure to try one of their traditional drinks. The Thai Iced Tea and Iced Bandung (a rose-flavored milk drink) are perfect for complementing the savory and sometimes spicy dishes.
In conclusion, AYAM is a place that delivers on its promise of delicious, authentic food in a friendly and casual setting. The combination of unique Halal Thai-Malay dishes, excellent service, and a cozy atmosphere makes it a go-to spot for locals and a must-try for anyone seeking a true taste of Southeast Asia right here in New York City.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This is a great little casual Thai Malay spot. Nice simple design. We liked the funny chicken themed decor and posters. There are a couple tables for 2 people to sit in and a high top bench area. Otherwise its ideal as a quick takeout spot. We ordered the Murtabak, Pad Kra Pow, and Fried Chicken Rice. The food was very tasty and filling. The Murtabak was especially flavorful and unique. Service was friendly and great, and pricing was very reasonable.
July 21 · Najeeb AbdullahI am a huge lover of indonesian / malay food, which can be difficult to find outside asia, so was so excited to see Ayam coming to astoria. The design is very cool and the selection of dishes is great. Wonderful to see murtabak on there. My only small gripe is that for the price I would expect a little more effort in some of the dishes or bigger portions. The quality of the chicken is great, but the grilled chicken plate is esentially just chicken, rice, and a few cucumbers. Another vegtable or some aromatics would help.
July 01 · Beau MahadevFlavor and execution wise, one of the best nasi lemaks I've personally had. The chicken was fried perfectly and was so tasty with the sambal and coconut rice. I do feel the portion is a little small for what you pay for, as I wasn't really full. Since I can't do 4.5 stars, I will give them the full rating as I do believe people should give them a try and support this new local business. It was really delicious . I want to return to try the other things, but the portion size may keep me away for the time being.
May 21 · AlexSuch a cool aesthetic and the food is just as good. Nasi Lemak and wonton chips are to die for and I love the drink selection. The employees are so kind and hardworking too, will definitely be stopping by whenever I’m in the area
April 25 · NayeemFriendly staff! A fellow Malaysian myself, always hunting for a good nasi lemak, as authentic as possible to home country taste. I definitely felt closer to home here. Sambal 8/10!! Murtabak pun sedap.
