Basil Leaf Cafe Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For residents of Long Island and the greater New York region seeking a truly authentic and charming Italian dining experience, the Basil Leaf Cafe in Locust Valley, NY, stands as a well-established and highly-regarded destination. Operating for over two decades under the guidance of gracious host and experienced restaurateur Vito Patronelli, this establishment has cultivated a reputation for consistently delicious regional Italian cuisine. It's not just a restaurant; it’s a locale that transports diners to a quaint European setting, providing a cozy, romantic, and upscale atmosphere perfect for a variety of occasions, from a casual lunch to a sophisticated dinner celebration.
Unlike eateries that rely on heavy sauces and fried dishes, Basil Leaf Cafe focuses on lighter fare, utilizing only the freshest ingredients to create classic regional Italian dishes with a distinct, contemporary twist. The menu is extensive, offering a delightful selection of appetizers, salads, homemade pastas, fresh fish, and a variety of brick oven pizzas. Chef Marco Divina, who trained in Northern Italy, ensures that every dish is cooked to perfection, avoiding cream and butter in the recipes to maintain a focus on fresh, clean flavors. Customer favorites often highlight the homemade pastas, the vodka sauce which many proclaim is the best, and signature entrees like the grilled baby lamb chops or the Tagliolini Con Gamberi E Arugola.
The dining experience is enhanced by the unique architecture and ambiance. The cafe is composed of two buildings connected by a beautiful outdoor patio, allowing for distinct dining environments. One room offers a romantic feel with soothing green tones and a double-sided fireplace, while the other features a long brick bar, a wood-burning oven, terra cotta flooring, and vintage photographs of classic old movie stars, creating a comfortable yet upscale vibe. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I hadn't dined at the Basil Leaf in locust valley for a very long time and I'm so happy I returned there for a birthday celebration. The outdoor patio is very cozy and inviting. It takes you away and makes you feel like you're in another country. It's a charming place with lots of different eating areas so it feels very intimate no matter where you are. The food was very good and they have so much on the menu. (It's almost overwhelming.) The service was very good and the desserts were excellent as well. Nice place to catch up with friends over a good meal.
September 12 · Lythia ROUSSEASBaby shower attendee and food was good. Staff did a wonderful job. In a private room so can't answer most of the questions.
May 27 · Debbie GiordanoTop restaurant in the North Shore, has been here since the early 90’s and I’ve been going my entire life. Having just moved back to the area I’m happy to be a constant customer of this amazing establishment again. The staff is the same, the recipes are the same. All the dishes are extremely consistent. Local celebrities without saying names are customers. It’s one of those red sauce joints that just hits the spot every time without breaking the bank in an unreasonable way. Whenever you’re looking for a solid Italian experience basil leaf and it’s service never disappoint. These employees live for this as if it’s a cottage industry they all sleep in. The passion shows through the food.
July 26 · JourdanIt’s incredible how one toxic manager can ruin what could have been a lovely experience. The place is charming, the food is good and our waitress was absolutely wonderful. But the manager? Shockingly rude, aggressive, and completely unprofessional. We are never coming back!
July 15 · Janika AnastassovDelicious food and service. I can’t wait to come back. I’ll definitely recommend to get the Vitelli Tonneto ( I felt like home with that dish). Desserts are al $10 which it caught our attention. We loved that! The chocolate cake was amazing! IMPORTANT: tip is in CASH only
