Camillo Introduce
Camillo stands out as a true culinary gem in the heart of Brooklyn’s vibrant Prospect Lefferts Gardens neighborhood. This is more than just another Italian restaurant; it is a traditional Roman eatery and bar dedicated to highlighting the authentic, time-honored cuisine of Italy's capital. New Yorkers searching for an experience beyond the typical Italian-American fare will find a warm, inviting, and truly exceptional dining spot at Camillo.
At the core of the menu is their acclaimed Pinsa, an ancient style of Roman pizza that has captivated local diners. Pinsa is distinctly different from the Neapolitan-style pizzas often found around New York City. Camillo’s pinsa is crafted using a special high-protein organic wheat flour blend, with a touch of rice flour, and is left to rise for over 48 hours. This meticulous process results in a crust that is notably lighter, crispier, and more easily digestible—a perfect meal for lunch or a lighter dinner. This focus on authentic, regional Roman dishes, from their signature Pinsa to classic pastas, positions Camillo as a must-visit destination for anyone in the New York area seeking a genuine taste of Italy.
The ambiance at Camillo perfectly complements its authentic cuisine. It strikes a balance between casual and upscale, making it a fitting choice for almost any occasion—whether you are looking for a quick and satisfying solo lunch, a cozy neighborhood dinner, a spot for a family gathering, or a romantic night out. The atmosphere is frequently described by patrons as cozy and trendy, yet still welcoming to groups and family-friendly. The excellent food, coupled with a great wine list and standout cocktails, creates a genuinely enjoyable and memorable dining experience for the local community and visitors alike.
Beyond their star pinsa and pasta, the menu features a curated selection of antipasti, main courses, and desserts, all prepared with an authentic Roman sensibility. From flavorful appetizers like the crispy Carciofi Giudia (fried whole artichokes) and the rich Chicken Liver mousse, to satisfying main courses such as the Abbacchio Alla Romana (traditional Roman roasted goat), Camillo offers a comprehensive journey through the tastes of Rome, all while being a friendly, accessible local spot in Brooklyn.
The commitment to quality ingredients, traditional methods, and a friendly, attentive service experience is what sets Camillo apart in the competitive New York dining landscape.

What is Worth Choosing
For local New Yorkers seeking a high-quality, memorable Italian dining experience, Camillo offers a unique and authentic taste of Rome that is hard to find elsewhere in the city. The primary reason to choose Camillo is the opportunity to savor Pinsa Romana. This ancient Roman-style crust is a game-changer for pizza lovers, offering a lighter, crispier texture and easier digestibility compared to heavier, traditional New York or Neapolitan pies.
The menu selection is a carefully curated showcase of Roman gastronomy. Diners consistently rave about the rich, comforting flavors of the pasta dishes, such as the hearty Paccheri Amatriciana and the slow-braised Pappardelle Oxtail. The appetizers are also not to be overlooked, with the Carciofi Giudia being a standout, crispy and flavorful favorite. These are plates rooted in tradition, yet executed with a modern New York sensibility.
Beyond the food, the total experience is a major draw. As one reviewer noted, Camillo is a "very bright spot in a neighborhood in transition and a solid Go-To" for regular patrons. The staff, including the mixologists behind the bar, are friendly and contribute to a welcoming, personalized service experience, greeting regulars by name. The atmosphere is versatile—perfect for a quiet date or a celebratory meal with family and friends. The strong selection of great cocktails and a thoughtful wine list ensure that whether you are beginning your meal or settling in for the evening, the beverage pairings will be top-notch.
And, for those with a sweet tooth, be sure to save room for dessert. The Tiramisu is frequently lauded as "🔥🔥🔥" (a definite must-try), and the unique Olive Oil Pistacchio Cake soaked in house-made limoncello offers a distinct, high-quality finish to any Roman feast. For Brooklyn diners who appreciate authenticity, quality ingredients, an inviting atmosphere, and crave a culinary experience that steps beyond the ordinary, Camillo is an absolute necessity on your list of local favorites.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Nice neighborhood restaurant. Fast service. Faves were the fried artichokes, the asparagus pinsa, the cod, the parpadelleand the 🔥🔥🔥 tiramisu.Didn't care for the lasagna at all. Too much starch (pasta and peas) to filling ratio. Not interesting.
September 14 · Jackie Gordon Singing ChefCamillo is a very bright spot in a neighborhood in transition and a solid Go-To for my wife and me. The pizza is greasy and they have GF crust available! The Tagliata (aka; sirloin steak) served with mashed potatoes and arugula salad, is the best in the wider area. Philipe, and his colleagues behind the bar, serve delicious cocktails and conversation and greet you by name when you walk through the door. I love this place and think you will too
July 26 · Christopher DiehlThe atmosphere is beautiful and calming with a good selection of wine and friendly service! But the food wasn’t great on the night I went. I saw the reviews and was very excited to try it out but was ultimately disappointed. I ordered the oxtail pasta and didn’t enjoy it so I packed it to go and ordered another pasta just wasn’t any better. Nevertheless the restaurant is beautiful and has a really good aura to it!
September 11 · Dior LunsfordWent here for a nicely budgeted dinner. We didn't have a reservation but they had a table for us. We had the chicken pate appetizer, the Coda alla Vaccinara and the Pollo Arrosto. All of it was good. Service was good. We'd go back. Great little neighborhood spot.
July 11 · Abdula GreeneStepping into Camillo, a cozy Italian eatery in the heart of Brooklyn, is a transportive experience. The ambiance, with its warm lighting and rustic decor, immediately sets the stage for a meal that promises both comfort and culinary sophistication. As a food connoisseur, I'm always on the hunt for a place that respects tradition while elevating ingredients, and Camillo delivers on all fronts. The meal began with a moment of delightful indecision, faced with the restaurant's extensive selection of aperitifs and negronis. The sheer variety of negronis, from classic to house-infused, is a testament to the bar's dedication to this iconic Italian cocktail. I opted for a flight of Amaro, savoring the complex herbal and bitter notes before diving into the food. For starters, we ordered the Arancini, a classic Sicilian street food that can be a benchmark of a kitchen's skill. The golden-fried spheres were perfectly crisp on the outside, giving way to a creamy interior of Arborio rice. Tucked inside was a rich, flavorful pork ragù and a molten core of mozzarella cheese. It was an impeccably executed dish—a true taste of home-cooked Italian goodness. The Asparagi & Ricotta pinsa was the star of the show. Pinsa, a Roman-style flatbread, has a unique texture—light, airy, and with a crispness that holds up to its toppings. The pinsa was a canvas for a symphony of flavors. It was generously topped with roasted asparagus, their earthy sweetness enhanced by a sprinkle of salty Parmigiano. Cubes of crispy guanciale provided a savory, porky richness. A dollop of cool, fresh ricotta balanced the intensity of the other ingredients, adding a creamy, slightly tangy element. The true genius, however, was the truffle sauce—a deeply aromatic and complex concoction of truffles, porcini mushrooms, black olives, and a hint of anchovy. This sauce was a masterstroke, infusing the entire dish with a luxurious, earthy depth that lingered beautifully.Next, the Eggplant Parmigiana arrived, a comforting and robust dish. It was a beautiful example of how simplicity can be utterly delicious. The layers of tender eggplant were perfectly stewed with a rich, vibrant tomato sauce and blanketed in a generous layer of melted Parmigiano. Each forkful was a harmonious blend of sweet, tangy, and savory flavors, with the soft texture of the eggplant providing a satisfying mouthfeel. To conclude, we indulged in the Tiramisu. This quintessential Italian dessert was a flawless rendition. The mascarpone cream was light yet rich, its subtle sweetness offset by the robust bitterness of the cocoa and espresso-soaked Italian ladyfingers. The layers were impeccably balanced, avoiding the common pitfall of being overly saturated. It was a perfect ending to a magnificent meal, leaving a lasting impression of authenticity and craftsmanship.Camillo is more than just a restaurant; it's a celebration of Italian cuisine's soul. From its thoughtful aperitif program to its flawlessly executed dishes, it's a destination for anyone who appreciates the art of good food.
